Responsible for influencing strategic planning, housing and regeneration policy in order to strengthen the Northwest economy and support the delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy. The role will encompass all aspects of planning and housing, including the Regional Spatial Strategy and the Regional Housing Strategy, planning consultations and wider regeneration and planning policy agendas. DIMENSIONS The Planning, Transport and Housing Team, led by the Head of Planning, Transport and Housing, is directly responsible for developing and taking forward the majority of the actions within the Infrastructure Chapter of the Regional Economic Strategy PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Influence strategic planning, housing and regeneration policy in order to strengthen the Northwest economy and support the delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy.
2. Contribute to shaping housing, planning and regeneration policy in the Regional Spatial Strategy and Regional Housing Strategy.
3. Develop a relevant research agenda. 4. Commission and steer major research studies to create an evidence base.
5. Take forward a positive agenda for housing, planning and regeneration. 6. Contribute to the development of national and regional planning, housing and urban policy.
7. Represent the Agency in discussions with Government departments, GONW, NWRA, Communities England, academics, consultants and local authorities
PLANNING AND ORGANISING •
Identifying key issues and opportunities and establishing the Agency’s position.

Specifying the outputs from specialist policy consultants and external advisors.

Steering and project managing studies undertaken by consultants and others.

Organising meetings, often with political content, and setting agendas for debate.

Identifying and carrying through lobbying processes, often in a political context.

Drafting complex reports and briefing papers.

Significant demonstrable experience of planning, with expertise in strategic policy and an understanding of the statutory system.

A good relevant degree or equivalent, preferably with a relevant postgraduate qualification
•
Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute
•
Very good analytical, verbal and interpersonal skills.
