It’s more important than ever for students to keep building their skills and make their resume stand out. Community and technical colleges across Washington offer courses and training programs that build on the aerospace manufacturing skills students have developed in the Core Plus Aerospace coursework, and can help students fast track their career and increase their earnings potential.
The curriculum is state-approved for equivalency credit in English, Science, and third-year Math. Program completion can be used to satisfy the state graduation pathway requirement. Students also receive an industry-recognized certificate of competency upon program completion.
Core Plus Aerospace is a two-year advanced manufacturing curriculum offered at 50+ high schools and skills centers across Washington state. Developed in partnership with industry, Core Plus Aerospace delivers real-world skills that prepare students for great careers and multiple post-high school pathways.

Core Plus Aerospace students can apply for full-time, paid, six-week summer internships at Boeing’s Renton and Everett facilities. Nearly 80 students participated in the 2022 summer internship. In past years, housing options have been available for students from outside the Puget Sound region.
The curriculum prepares students for direct entry after graduation into manufacturing careers; apprenticeships; college programs; and the military.

What do students learn in Core Plus Aerospace?
Students learn manufacturing skills common across all industries such as shop safety, materials science, precision measurement, and the use of hand and power tools. As students dig deeper into the coursework, they learn industry skills specific to aerospace and advanced manufacturing such as fiber optics, advanced composites, and robotics. Students also learn time management, problem solving, adaptability, and team building.
Find resources to share with students including fact sheets in multiple languages, a year-by-year high school checklist, and a tool kit for high school graduates at coreplusaerospace.org/schoolcounselors
What types of industries/fields of study do Core Plus Aerospace graduates often go into?
There will be more than 4 million open manufacturing jobs in the U.S. in the next decade. There are 265,000 jobs in Washington, with an average annual compensation of $96,000 a year. An increasingly large portion of that workforce is becoming eligible for retirement. Washington manufacturers need talented workers and the door is open to a new generation of employees. Students who complete the Core Plus Aerospace curriculum will be ready to apply directly for entry-level advanced manufacturing jobs. Boeing alone has hired more than 1,000 Core Plus Aerospace graduates since 2015.
