Loomis Trail is now OPEN to the public

This Western Washington favorite, now paired with the Silver Reef Casino, offers fantastic stay-and-play packages. It’s also an excellent course to stop and play if you’re on your way to Canada.

In the last decade, Loomis Trail has been named one of the top golf courses in the state of Washington and had the honor of hosting USGA qualifying events and major college championships. Now, thanks to Lummi Nation, it’s a course that more people will get the chance to play.

Designed by Graham Cooke, Loomis Trail Golf Club is the #5 public golf course in Washington, as rated by GolfWeek. The scenic beauty is unsurpassed, and the consistently smooth, fast, and true greens put Loomis Trail among the Northwest’s finest courses. An extensive canal and lake system brings water into play on all 18 holes.

The spacious, Tudor-style clubhouse offers a full range of services, including a Pro Shop, full-service lounge, snack bar, and banquet facilities. Practice facilities include a driving range, putting and chipping greens, and practice bunkers.

The Lummi Indian Business Council announced in late 2018 that it had purchased the course to reclaim a piece of the nation’s cultural heritage and to provide another amenity for guests of its Silver Reef Hotel Casino. The purchase included the golf course, a 16-room hotel, and clubhouse facilities.

Tribal officials called the area a homeland for the Semiahmah natives who were forced to leave. According to a press release, “many of the Lummi people today can trace their origins to these villages.”

The big change was the course’s move from a semi-private club to a fully public course. “Golf is an expensive sport and we’ve changed that,” said Lummi Chairman Jay Julius. “We want to make this accessible to everyone.

The change in ownership and status led management to find new ways of promoting the facility. New offers include stay-and-play packages with the nearby Silver Reef Casino Resort, and a new two-player event July 28 & 29, 2019.

The Cascadia Shootout is a two-day, 36-hole, team best-ball tournament with one round to be played on each of the two championship courses including Loomis Trail and Homestead Farms Golf Club. More information - and registration - can be found at www. cascadiaevents.com.

The course is trying to build a base of new signature events. If you are interested in holding a corporate retreat that could include the amenities of the Silver Reef Casino Resort, contact John Tipping at john@cascadiaevents.com.
