CONCENTRATES 101

Opening their doors for the first time in mid-May, Scorpion Grass is one of the newest players to enter the market in the Mat-Su Valley. Yes, the sign has been hanging on the building for a good while now, but after a fire ravaged the facility last year, I’m happy to see these guys finally get those doors open to the public. And what a store it is.

SCORPION GRASS CANNABIS

5/5 One of the first things you will notice upon entering, aside from the beautiful lighted logo hanging on the wall, is a display table in the middle of the room with every concentrate and edible product that they carry in store. It is quite the selection. Carrying products from too many manufacturers to name them all, they will no doubt have something up everyone's alley. On the flower side, at the time of this writing, they carried 25 strains on their menu - expecting to add their in-house flower in the not so distant future.

BUDTENDERS

4/5 I stopped into the store at multiple different times to try and have a short chat with every budtender on staff. This is definitely a friendly bunch that makes you feel welcome in the store, taking care to not overwhelm any newcomers to the Cannabis world. They were able to answer just about every question I threw their way about the products that they carry, and if someone didn't know the answer, they were able to call upon each other's knowledge. Some budtenders tend to favor flower or concentrates - but that willingness to lean on each other goes miles when it comes to customer education.

ENVIRONMENT & VIBE

5/5 Upon entering, my eyes were immediately drawn to how the building is lit. The backlighting along the shelves, as well as the big scorpion centerpiece, immediately draws you to the counter. However, the live edge concentrate display table in the middle of the room may sidetrack you with its plethora of products on the way over. One thing that I really like about this layout is that it naturally disperses customers through the store, making busy times seem less crowded. On the back wall is a very aesthetically pleasing fireplace and an open area that I’m told will have seating after Covid-19 has passed.

HISTORY

5/5 I am incredibly happy to see these guys finally open their doors. In 2019, the building was close to being public-ready before a fire tore through the facility. Getting to this point shows a passion and perseverance that is second to none. Alaska's Cannabis market is almost all family businesses, and something this drastic could have easily been the end of a dream. They didn’t let the dream die - and now that the doors are open and the plants are growing strong - I am excited to see what comes next for everyone at Scorpion Grass.
