CANAPA Pelle Delicata Face Serum and Crema Lotion
PACKAGING & APPEARANCE (4/5) The Canapa Pelle Delicata face serum and Crema lotion come in a cleanly designed box - although, I wish the product didn’t have additional packaging outside the glass bottle, it’s no different than most skin care products. I loved the smooth, sandblasted glass jar the serum comes in. The branding is not only beautiful and minimal, but environmentally conscious by not contributing to single-use plastics that continue to litter our planet. The packaging looks and feels like a high-end skin care product you would find at a beauty counter.
AROMA (5/5) Most face serums don’t have a real scent, but I loved the clean, grassy smell of Pelle Delicata. The fragrance isn’t strong, but smells natural and refreshing without added perfume. The same goes for the Crema lotion. It has a light scent from the ingredients, with the consistency of a mousse-like body butter.
CANAPA IS A NEW HEMP-DERIVED CBD SKINCARE LINE THAT’S HITTING THE OREGON MARKET, LOCALLY SOURCED FROM HORN CREEK FARMS. ‘Pelle Delicata’ means ‘gentle skin’ in Italian, and this CBD-packed face serum not only talks the talk, but walks the walk - leaving me with plump and radiant skin. The Crema lotion is a lightly scented product, with a rich and buttery feel upon application. Both items became an instant classic and permanent installation within my religious skincare routine. Canapa also gives a percentage of sales to The Bail Project, and understands the importance of social equity within the Cannabis industry. Wow, a CBD skincare line that is both luxurious and provides a tangible source of social equity through helping people make bail? I’m in.
APPLICATION (5/5) After you have cleansed and toned your face, the golden serum drops directly on your skin before heavy, cream moisturizers. The order of which you apply your skincare products matters people! Make sure to apply the serum in light, upward strokes to avoid creating lines or sagging your face. I was immediately glowing. The lotion is buttery with application and leaves you with velvety hands once it absorbs into your skin. Ultra-hydrating without becoming greasy.
Pro Tip: Use the serum with a facial roller for instant results that reduce puffiness, smooth wrinkles and increase blood circulation.
EFFECTS (5/5) I moisturize heavier in the winter, due to the drying effect the cold has on my skin. I applied this serum nightly, but it works well in the AM when my face is puffy from sleep. The CBD serum (and the lotion) helps reduce redness and swelling, especially in the morning! It doesn’t leave your face oily, and absorbs seamlessly into the skin. As an artist, my hands are constantly put through the ringer. The Crema lotion left my hands softer than baby skin, and reduced inflammation from scratches and abrasions caused by working in a metal shop. The serum and lotion are both standout hemp products created right here in Oregon. CBD is becoming a major contender within the world of skincare, and I would definitely believe the hype.
VALUE (4/5) Although $70 is pricey at first glance, for 30ml of organic serum the cost isn’t outrageous, especially when compared to Clarins or other high-end skincare products. Canapa also sells their Pelle Delicata face serum in a 50mg strength for only $20, for those on a tighter budget. The same goes with the Crema lotion - the 1000mg CBD potency runs for $70 in a whopping 200ml jar, but the 100mg CBD potency lotion provides more accessibility at $20 for the same amount of product. If you can afford it, go with the high potency versions. But the weaker CBD potencies will yield similar results, just not as quickly. Total 23/25

DESCHUTES GROWERY STRAWBERRY GUAVA
TRAP DOOR BREWING “LOST IN THE SAUCE” SOUR ALE WITH CRANBERRIES AND BLOOD ORANGE
With the sneak peeks of early Spring we’ve
been having lately, I found it fitting to search
for a more refreshing pairing - something that
foreshadows the warmer days ahead.
I CHOSE a cranberry and blood orange sour ale from Trap Door Brewing Company to accompany Strawberry Guava flower grown by Deschutes Growery. Trap Door Brewing is a local brewery operating out of Vancouver, Washington. Their program primarily focuses on fruited sours, NE style IPAs and decadent pastry stouts.
The sour beer, named “Lost in the Sauce” pours a deep red color with a moderate carbonation level. The nose is all cranberry, followed by a pleasing wheat finish. On the palate, the cranberries dominate up front with a juicy punch, while the blood orange comes in at the end to wipe away the tartness from the brettanomyces.
The Strawberry Guava from Deschutes Growery has a unique terpene profile that smells Strawberry Banana dominant, followed by a light, almost hashy nose from the Papaya lineage.
The tropical smell and flavor of the myrcene dominant Strawberry Guava balances out the slightly tart finish of the blood orange in the sour ale, adding layers of complexity to the combination.
Sweet citrus and juicy, tart cranberry hits the palate first, followed by ripe papaya and slight notes of unripe strawberries. The effects are euphoric and uplifting, but not overbearing or anxiety inducing - perfect for an end of the day porch smoke as we move into warmer days.
Most of Trap Door Brewing’s canned beers can be found at local bottle shops around the Portland area, while Strawberry Guava and other Deschutes Growery strains are available at select shops around the city.
