Personal Connections
Editor’s Note: This month, Northwest Yachting’s Doug Hansen recounts his Sailing Week adventures in Antigua on pages 58-65, but he’s not the only staffer with a connection to this classic in the Caribbean. Publisher Michelle Zeasman-Gibbon has accompanied her husband on the race and our Craig Perry shares his own experiences here:
“I was fortunate enough to race in a couple of Sailing Weeks in Antigua. The last one was in 2001. My wife Kim and I were married on a Sunday in the San Juans and left on Monday for Antigua Sailing Week. As we say, we spent our honeymoon with 20 of our best friends. Our accommodations were two sailboats that were chartered by the owner for the crew to stay. As the races moved around the island, so did our lodgings! The atmosphere is amazing with some sort of party every night on the beach and the sailing was good as it gets. I had to promise Kim that we would return next year to have a proper honeymoon without racing involved. Kim held me to that and we returned the next year, although not during Sailing Week.” [ MORE PALS FOR PEARL ]
From the Pup Deck
Editor’s Note: We’re big fans of dogs on deck, so we couldn’t resist gathering more details from Paul Bultema and Heather Brewer (the subjects of this month’s Working Reboatly feature) on how they managed traveling the world with this month’s cover girl. Their top tip? On the recommendation from a veterinarian friend, they ensured Mira stayed well fed in heavy seas by freezing her food in ice trays so that she could easily gobble it up (and get a little extra hydration from the melting ice particles). Next time, they’ll be freezing some extra with new puppy Hala in tow, too. (Squee!)

Feeling the Love
Editor’s Note: Our inboxes—and hearts— have been full this summer with thank yous, kudos, and newsy notes on your amazing accomplishments. Keep ‘em coming!
Kate, Here is a story your readers may be interested in: Seattle-based Alex Simanis and crew won California Offshore Race Week aboard Pell Mell. This is a remarkable accomplishment, but even more amazing is the fact that they achieved it racing on a renovated 27’ plywood boat built 35 years ago. Simanis’ boat, Pell Mell, is a Point Bonita 27, built in 1987 by Dave Sutter, flying under the burgee of the Sloop Tavern Yacht Club. Fair winds and following seas! Dennis Palmer
@KelleyMoore:So excited that Pink Bateau is featured in the June issue of NW Yachting Magazine (Hattie is too!).
Hi Michelle, Thank you for your sponsorship during the 2022 Summer Launch Party! The event was an absolute success thanks to your support. We hosted 65 clients and over 650 linear feet of yachts, filling the marina with vibrant orange burgees all weekend. A copy of Northwest Yachting was included in every gift bag and the most popular publication on the dock. I’m looking forward to bringing even more copies next year!
