Be Whale Wise
from NWY June 2023
Make a difference for endangered Southern Resident killer whales. Follow Be Whale Wise regulations in WA state:
▸ Avoid approaching Southern Resident killer whales, and at minimum stay the required distance away (see BeWhaleWise.org).
▸ Watch for the Whale Warning Flag. If you see the flag, that means there are whales nearby. Slow down!
▸ Turn off fish finders or depth sounders in the presence of whales.
▸ For recreational kayakers and people using other nonmotorized vessels: Wait to launch until killer whales are more than a half-mile away, stay close to shore and raft up if whales are nearby.
