NYOS Training Ensembles are designed for younger players around the ages of 8-14 (grade 3, as a guide only) to prepare them for entry into a NYOS Orchestra.

Following on from the success of the inaugural Training Ensemble courses in 2015, The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland now offers two courses for each ensemble per year.

Applications are open every winter between November and January.

The training ensembles focus not only on learning repertoire, but also on essentials such as ensemble playing, listening skills, posture and musicianship, along with
