Summer Reading is fun for children of all ages who want to keep their reading skills sharp over the summer vacation. Anyone can sign up, from babies to adults. Keep track of the books you read, learn about interesting new ones, and attend special programs and activities at your neighborhood library. Last year, nearly 75,000 children and teens participated in Summer Reading, and school-aged children devoured 380,000 books. This year promises to be just as exciting. Happy reading! How to sign up To sign up, visit your local library OR log on to www.summerreading.org. Registration starts June 10.

How it works When you sign up at your neighborhood library, a librarian will give you your “Reading Log” to keep track of the books you have read. If you sign up online, you can keep track of all the books you read this summer on your e-log. Choose books from the Summer Reading Book Lists or ask the librarians for other suggestions. Children and teens can earn points towards prizes, and will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the summer.

Visit the Summer Reading website and check out exciting new features: individualized avatars, interactive games, and reward systems similar to the popular smartphone app foursquare. For more information, children can call the Office of Children’s Programs at 212-3400906. Teens can call the Office of Young Adult Programs at 212-340-0907. Adults can call the Office of Adult and Information Programs at 212-340-0911.
