We lay the foundation for future designers. We equip our students with the technical skills and knowledge to be competitive and succeed in today's dynamic fashion industry. New York School of Design was founded in 2004 as a fashion focused and industry-led design school. Located in the world-renown New York Garment District, NYSD provides a training ground that is unique and inspirational. Throughout the years, NYSD has maintained its position as the premier fashion school specializing in intensive, hands-on training. We offer an array of fashion courses to aspiring fashioner designers and technicians of diverse backgrounds and nationalities.

NYSD’s areas of specialization include Fashion Design, Fashion Technical Design, Fashion Production, Graphics Design. NYSD works in cooperation with the fashion industry to offer its students internship opportunities. Our graduates have gained employment in international fashion icons such as Ralph Lauren, Gap, American Eagle, Liz Claiborne, Coach, Vivienne Tam, Zac Posen, etc. NYSD is licensed by the State of New York, Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision.



FASHION DESIGN This program prepares students with no background in fashion or art towards becoming a trained designer. Through a series of courses, students develop techniques for sketching flats, 3D models, illustrations, color ways on the computer and Presentation Boards; understanding fashion trends, and sourcing and matching fabric and trims for their creation trims for their creations. They develop a series of portfolios in textile design, women’s wear, knitwear, uniform design, children and men’s wear using computer aided design and manual drawings. Students also receive hands on training in sewing, draping and fabrication. By the end of this program, they will have gained significant knowledge and skills for employment as Assistant Designer and CAD (Computer Aided Design) Designer

FASHION TECHNICAL DESIGN This program provides practical hands on training in the technical aspects of creating a fashion line from pattern making, specs, grading fit and production.

Students will learn industry techniques for creating technical drawings from a design or sample, design details, pattern-making; creating and spec samples; writing cutting tickets, model fitting, corrections, final production sample; creating and modifying computer flats, sending technical comments to factories, etc. This program prepares students for employment as Assistant Technical Designer, Production Assistant and Pattern-Maker.

FASHION PORTFOLIO PREP Any student who wish to go to an art or fashion school should submit a portfolio. To be a fashion student, you should demonstrate your ability to design, and sew a garment. Our fashion design program will help you build a stellar, professional portfolio that will get noticed by admission officers. In this program, you will: learn and showcase your artistic ability through: A professionally developed portfolio of your creation of a range clothing styles and accessories Proficiency in using Photoshop and Illustrator to develop your portfolio and Computer generated Presentation Boards Garments designed and constructed by you: skirt, blouse, trousers, dress, and jacket Essay describing your work and vision as an artist. OUR INSTRUCTORS Ester Adams Ester Adams has 10 years of experience making high-end, custom fitting clothing patterns. In addition, she brings 17 years of knowledge in Gerber Accumark System, grading techniques, production techniques, and patternmaking. Ester holds a BA in Production Management and AAS in Patternmaking from F.I.T.

Anthony Catanzaro Anthony Catanzaro has worked as a costume designer for 16 year. He comes to us with background in pattern making, draping, hand knitting, and beading. He has worked as a costume designer for numerous companies including Kaleidoscope Theatre Company, Go! Entertainment, Alton PR and Production, and TOSOS Theatre Company. Anthony holds a BBA in Business Administration from St. John’s University and completing an AAS in Fashion Design from Parsons The New School of Design.

Sherita Cuffee Sherita Cuffee has ten years of experience in the Fashion Industry as a Technical Designerand a Production Manager. For the past 9 years she has been teaching at many different locations including her alma mater Moore College of Art and Design and the Harlem Educational Activity Fund’s Summer Quest. Sherita owns a womenswear company called Viscera NY and currently works as a consultant in areas of design, production and merchandising for luxury and high-end women’s ready to wear and home-furnishings companies.


Marcia DiLiberto Marcia E. DiLiberto has worked in academia for over 20 years, mostly at Parsons The New School for Design. In addition to teaching beginner to advanced classes, she has a special interest in mentoring advanced students in preparation for Master’s-level work. Marica has extensive work experience as a jewelry and fashion designer. She has operated her own independent freelance design service as well as worked for Roytex Inc. and Pierre Cardin. Marcia holds a BS in Fashion Design from SUNY, Empire State College.

Joseph J. Giampietro Joseph J. Giampietro has knowledge in design, trend and color forecasting, Photoshop, Illustrator, CAD, and flat sketches. He has worked as a designer for Macy’s Merchandising Group for 8 years. Starting as Assistant Designer for Macy’s Alfani and Alfani Red Sportswear, Joseph climbed his way up to his current position as Senior Designer. Joseph holds a BFA in Fashion Design from Parsons The New School of Design.


Elgie Johnson Elgie Johnson has been working as Fashion Visual Merchandiser since 1992. He graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Illustration from the Art Institute of Atlanta and a B.A. in Fashion Merchandising from The American Intercontinental University. In 2015 he received his Master’s Degree in Merchandising from LIM. During his career has worked as a Visual Merchandiser in many department stores including Macy’s, Upton’s, Bloomingdales and Saks. Elgie has taught at multiple schools including Katherine Gibbs and Wood Tobe Coburn.

Roza Mirakova Roza Mirakova has been teaching for over 15 years and particularly enjoys helping individual students in a small group setting. She also teaches at Fashion Institute of Technology in the Technical Design and Production Management Department. In addition to her teaching duties, she is a freelance designer and pattern maker at Roza’s Fashion. She has previously worked at Liz Claiborn, Haddad, and Diana Hartman. She holds a BS from FIT in Production Management in Apparel.

Sandra Perdomo Sandra Perdoma has background in apparel/shoe design, fashion illustration, visual merchandising, and fashion show production. For 8 years, she worked as Art Director at Doris Weston, Inc., Color & Fashion Trend Studio. In addition, Sandra has worked more than 20 years as a freelancer for Coach/Mark Cross, Gap, Banana Republic, and London Fog. Sandra studied Fashion Illustration at Parsons The New School of Design and St. Martin’s School of Art in London, England.


Lorenzo Rizzo Lorenzo Rizzo has been working in the Fashion Industry for 8 years. After graduating from Polimoda Fashion Institute in Florence he began working as a men’s knitwear designer at Ermanno Scervino. Since that time he has worked on lines such as William Rast and Mango. He worked with Karl Largefeld as a Design Consultant for the men’s and women’s collections. Lorenzo is an amazing illustrator and is an expert in Photoshop and Illustrator.

Christina Trupiano Christina Trupiano has been working as a full-time Patternmaker for 7 years. She has extensive experience in draping, patternmaking, sourcing and construction. Christina currently works as the in-house patternmaker at Mara Hoffman, making patterns from sketches for overseas production. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design from Louisiana State University and a Post Graduate Degree in Fashion Design from Parsons: The New School of Design.
