I. Christmas Stamp. The denomination of' the 1961 Christmas stamn which is illustrated here will be 2~d. to conrorm with the increased rate of' postage for inland commercial papers, printed papers and postcards.
A nativity painting by Albrecht Durer entitled "Adoration of' the Magi" is featured. The original of this painting hangs in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy. In an endeavour to reproduce the painting in as near as possible to its natural colour, four colour photogravure printing has been used by Messrs Harrison and Sons Limited, London. In comparison to the rather sombre colours of the 1960 issue, this year's stamp is particularly bright. Each stamp is 34mm x 30mm and sheets have 60 impressions in five rows of twelve. In the top right-hand corner, the sheet value of 12s.6d. is shown, while the printer's imprint, together With the plate number appears in the bottom left-hand corner. The plate number of 1A in each case is shown in the colour used; namely black, red, yellow and blue. These principal colours have been delicately blended to obtain the desired overall toning. Paper with a consistency of 50 per cent Esparto and 50 per cent sulphite has been used. The multiple watermark is sideways with N.Z. reading upwards. The stamp will be placed on sale throughout the country on 16th October and provided stocks are not exhausted earlier, will be withdruvm on 13th January, 1962.
Souvenir envelopes are not being provided by the Post O~~ice, but should overseas clients require ~irst day covers on plain white envelopes or their own souvenir envelopes, orders may be placed with the Director-General, Stamps DiVision, General Post O~~ice, Wellington not later than 10th October. The normal servicing ~ee o~ 1~d. per cover will be charged, but this will be reduced to 1d. i~ a client supplies his own envelopes. Orders ~or mint stamps can be placed immediately prior to the date o~ release or at any time during the period the stamps are on sale. Orders ~or ~irst day covers ~rom residents in New Zealand cannot be accepted at the Stamps Division. 2. 1961 Health Stamps. One combination o~ printing plates was The plate number A1 appears, together used ~or this year's issue. with the printer's imprint, in the bottom le~t-hand corner o~ all sheets. This plate number and imprint is also shown at the bottom o~ the miniature sheets.

An impression o~ the Pictorial dates tamp which was in use at the Otaki Health camp post o~~ice on the opening day o~ the campaign is illustrated here. Datestamps o~ similar design were used at the other permanent Health camp post o~~ices. 3. Pictorial Stamps. Further plate numbers o~ the lower valued Pictorial stamps have been released. These are:-

To meet the demands o~ the new postage rates, we propose to issue a 2~d. and a 5d. denomination. Present indications are that the 2~d. will be released early in November and the 5d. at some later date, possibly early in the new year. Full details

4. Official. A new printing of' the 4d. denomination was released to of'f'ices on 1st September. Sheets from plate number 5 on New Zealand Star paper make up the entire issue.
With the addition of' Of'f'icial series have been are the id., 2d., 3d. and 31st August but specimens
the 4d. denomination, f'our stamps in the printed on New Zealand Star paper. They 4d. The 2d. was withdrawn from sale on of' the remaining stamps can now be obtained.
To meet the demand f'or a 2id. stamp, the 2d. denomination has been overprinted. The date of' issue of' this provisional stamp was 1s t September. At present there are no proposals to issue a new 2id. denomination. 5. Provisional Issue.To cover the period until the new "f'lower" stamp is available a provisional 2id. issue has been produced by overprinting sheets of' the Queen Elizabeth 3d. denomination that were still in stock. This stamp was released at all of'f'ices on 1s t September, 1961. All the. 3d. stamps overprinted have the large numeral and are on New Zealand Star paper. All plate numbers that were issued f'or the original 3d. denomination, namely, 17, 18, 19 and 20 have been used. 6. 1960 Health Stamps. are f'Urnished herewith:-

7. Cook Islands. The 3d. denomination of' the current Cook Islands issue is now available on New Zealand Star paJ?er. Specimens on the new paper were f'irst released on 22nd May, 1961.
8. New Zealand Scout Jamboree.Postal f'acilities will be provided at the New Zealand Scout Jamboree to be held at Waiora f'rom 4th to 15th January, 1962 inclusive. Waiora is just south of' Dunedin. For the of'f'icial opening of' this Jamboree on 6th January it is proposed to use a distinctive dates tamp to cancel all mail posted at the special post of'f'ice. People wishing to obtain impressions of' this dates tamp should f'orward their stamped, addressed envelopes to the Chief' Postmaster, Dunedin so as to reach that of'f'ice not later than 31st December.
9. Thames Trade Fair.A post office is being opened at this Trade Fair from 18th to 23rd October inclusive. Those people who wish to obtain impressions of the dates tamp should forward stamped, addressed envelopes to the Chief Postmaster, Thames who will make the necessary arrangements. 10. Ross Dependency. People who wish to have envelopes cancelled at the Scott Base post office are reminded that it is necessary to use Ross Dependency stamps. Stamps of other Administrations, including New Zealand, cannot be accepted.
Persons who do not have Ross Dependency stamps may place an order with the Stamps Division where arrangements will be made to forward stamped envelopes to the Territory. Scott Base is the only New Zealand post office in the Ross Dependency. 11. Post Offices Opened or Closed. -
