Anzac Commemorative Set

These two stamps (4d and 5d - date of issue 14.4.65) will be withirawn from sale at post offices on 15th June, 1965, but for the convenience of clients will be available at the Postal Division, General Fost Office, Wellington, until 31st January, 1966. 2. International Telecommunication Union.

Readers are reminded that, with a number of other member countries, New Zealand will issue a special stamp to commemorate the centenary of the International Telecommunication Union. The stamp will be placed on sale on 17th May, 1965 and the denomination will be 9d. The stamp will remain on sale at Post Offices until 15th June but will be available at the Postal Division, General Post Office, Wellington, for nine months from the date of issue. 3. Cook Islands Solar Eclipse

A reminder is given, too, of the special 6d stamp to be issued on 31st May, 1965, by the Cook Islands Administration to commemorate the Solar Eclipse to be observed at Manuae Island on Sunday, 30th May. Considerable international interest is being taken in this event and at least 100 meteorologists and scientists from all over the world are converging on Manuae Island - one of the Cook Group - to observe the eclipse. Manuae Island, considered the best vantage point, has a permanent population of about 20 people. The Postal Division, General Post Office, Wellington, will service first day covers for overseas client. in the usual way, but as the covers have to be forwarded to the Cook Islands for dispatching, clients are requested to have their orders reach


Wellington by 17th ~ay. The Cook Islands Administration is issuing a souvenir cover and if this is supplied the charge will be 3d per cover plus 2d servicing fee. If clients' own covers-are supplied the servicing fee will be 2d per cover. The stamp is 21 mm x ~? mm, in vertical format, and is being printed in sheets of 60 in 6 rows of ten. The printer's name, Messrs Bradbu":'Y Wilkinson and Co. l¡te., and the plate nua~er 111, are on t~e ~otto~ left-hand corner under the first and second stamps. The value block £1 10s.0d. is on the upper right-hand corner. New Zealand persons who require covers to be serviced should forward their orders and remittances (together with addressed cover~ if souvenir covers not required) under cover marked "Order for First Day ~over" direct to the Chief Postmaster, Rarotonga, Cook Islands, in time to reach Rarotonga by 21st May, 1965. The charges will be as above. 4.

Churchill Commemorative stamp

The stamp being issued in New Zealand in memory ot the late Sir Winston Churchill will be printed in Australia by the Note Printing Branch of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Melbourne, and will be issued simultaneously with the Australian stamp on 24th May. The stamp will portray a reproduction of the Karsh photograph of Sir Wins ton and the denomination will be 7d. A photograph of the stamp and particulars about plate numbers will be published in the Bulletin when they become available. 5. Centenary of Government in Wellington

A special stamp, denomination 4d, is to be issued on 26th July, 1965, to commemorate the centenary of the establishment of Wellington as the seat of Government. The stamp was designed in the Display Section ot the General Post Office and features a reproduction ot a water colour painted by L.B. Temple in 1867 of the building originally erected for the Wellington Provincial Council. The painting is in the Turnbull Library, Wellington Farliament met in the Provincial Council building for a number of years. The bUilding, which was destroyed by fire in 1907, was situated where the present General Assembly Library now stands. More information about the stamp will be given in a later Bulletin. 6.

Health Stamps, 1965

As in previous years, Health stamps will be placed on sale in August Details or designs and colours will be given in a later Bulletin. Owing to the new postage rates, the denominations will be 4d (3d + 1d) and 5d (4d + 1d). This year the miniature sheets will contain six stamps. One miniature sheet of each denomination will cost 4s.6d.

Official Stamps

The Queen Elizabeth 11 Official stamps and the Arms type 5s. Official staillPS were withdrawn from sale at post offices on 31st March, 1965. The stamps may, however, be obtained at the Stamps Section of the Fostal Division, General Post Office, until 31st December, 1965. The cost of the Queen Elizabeth set is 6s.1id, the denominations being 1d, 2id, 3d, 4d, 6d, 9d, 1s, and 3s. If the Arms type stamp is required the total charge is 11s.1id. 9. 7d. Servicing Fees

Orders for the New Zealand stamps and for the relative first day covers mentioned in this Bulletin may now be placed by overseas clients with the Director-General, Postal Division, General Post Office, Wellington. As souvenir covers are not provided by the Fost Office, plain white envelopes will be used. A servicing fee of 1id for each envelope is to be included with each remittance. The servicing fee is 1d. when an addressed envelope is supplied. 11.

Remittances (IMPORTANT)

It is contrary to the New Zealand exchange control regulations to supply stamps in exchange for New Zealand currency. ~verseas remittances for stamps must be forwarded by International ffioney-order or bank draft of sufficient amount to cover the face v~lue of the stamps, return postage, and, if the order amounts to 1Ss. or more, the registration fee of 18. 14.
