U.T.A. Inaugural Flight to Noumea

Because of the postponement at short notice of the U.T.A. Inaugural flight from Auckland to Noumea from 14 December to 15 December, it was not possible to use the special fixed-type date-stamp.which had been manufactured for use on first day covers carried on the flight. As there was not sufficient time to manufacture a new date-stamp, the first day covers were postmarked at Auckland with an ordinary steel date-stamp. 9. Postal Joumal

Some recent articles which have appeared in the "Union Postale" published monthly by the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union, Berne, Switzerland, concerned the prompt delivery service introduced by the Chinese Administration, various uses of microfilm in the Swiss P.T.T. Services, standardisation of packing and the mechanisation and automation of counter operations. Articles on stamps were "Stamps for Food", "Centenary of the First Postage Stamp

n Yugoslavia". The magazine is published in 7 languages and nformation and some illustrations of new stamp issues are published n the French section of each issue. The annual subscription for the "Union Postale" is 9 Swiss francs (about 15s.0d. N.Z.) payable by money order or a draft on Switzerland payable at sight.
