The main goal of the project is to revive the lost green areas and the urban-coastal relationship in the Anatolian side due to industrialization and urbanization processes. In this context, the aim is to transform disused industrial areas into accessible and high-quality public recreational and activity spaces for the urban residents. Additionally, increasing green spaces to alleviate urban density and preserving and enhancing the cultural, historical, and industrial heritage are among the primary objectives of the project. There are many disused industrial structures in the project area. In this project, the focus is on transforming these idle industrial zones into public recreational and activity areas that are easily accessible to the local community.

With industrialization, coastal areas began to be filled in.

The project, located in the Kadıköy district, aims to transform unused parcels into public green spaces and ensure the continuity of these areas to create a linear axis. As a result of this axis, the significant elevation difference in the selected project area has been addressed by incorporating a courtyard-based cultural arcade with multiple entrances. The functionality has been determined based on the needs of the region’s users. Supporting facilities have been added to enhance the newly created public green spaces.

The working area exhibits significant elevation differences. Using the existing contour lines, I segmented the terrain into levels and positioned the masses accordingly. By creating expansive green spaces (courtyards) between the masses, I established areas designed for user socialization. Within these masses, I delineated entrance and transition spaces through the formation of central courtyards and voids in specific corners. The project’s objective is to design a student residence in Istanbul-Beşiktaş. This facility will serve students from nearby universities, including those in graduate and student exchange programs, along with guest lecturers. The emphasis lies in establishing a green space connection with the courtyards, prioritizing user socialization alongside the essential shelter aspect. This is achieved through thoughtful transitions between the squares.

An attempt was made to make a cultural/social/educational fusion point that was missing in the region, rather than just an ordinary library. After determining the list of Needs in accordance with my goal, I have diagrammed the relationships that will be with each other. According to the scheme I have created, I have 2 main units; a quieter area created by the library unit and a non-quiet area created by the cafe and multi-purpose lounge.

Cylinder discharges were made in the mass and courtyards were formed. Thanks to these courtyards, the building is illuminated by indirect daylight, which is one of the most suitable lighting for the library. The main library volume was located on the upper floor on the north-facing facade. On the south-facing facade, a roof eave was created by making a retreat. In this way, the arrival of disturbing sun rays was prevented.

The structure is positioned according to the following functions. quiet areas were placed at points away from the road. On the ground floor, square/public spaces and seating areas were created with landscaping.
