OW DESIGN

Hi, I’m Oliver Williams I’m a passionate product design student from Nottingham Trent University trying to find the right sketch for my journey as a designer. My style that I have adopted is the act of making. This is a skill I believe to be one of the most important, as a designer to learn through making and experiment with my ideas in a physical more tangible way to find value in people’s lives. My inspirations for my ideas come from being adventurous by doing activities like climbing or surfing. These experiences really help to challenge my abillities and push myself.

Why I design What gets me up in the morning is the ability to create something that will have meaning in somebody’s life. Whether that’s creating a new experience or something that will have a significant impact on a person’s day to day life. “Design is a giving profession.” Work Experience Studio Levien - 1 week intern Ideal Standard - 1 week intern Woodgold Straw Architects - 1 week intern

Cork Pen Pouch The project was to design a type of promotional merchandise. In my solution I created a sustainable pen pouch made from cork. This concept came out of the idea and needs I highlighted when discovering the market for the everyday carry movement. Targeting the people who really find value in the everyday items they carry, one which the pen pouch has a place in the day-to-day life.

Intention

Treat a pen as an accessory. The intention was to be inspired by natural materials and the act of making. Creating an interactive product that offers a sense of

achievement through the user building the pouch with the lace up system. This offered a truely unique pouch that really interested everyday carry enthusiast.

After discovering cork, I realised I found a perfect material for my pen pouch creation, one that responds to all of my concerns because it is aesthetically, beautiful, functional and eco-friendly.

UP-Roasted UP-Cycled In this project we were required to develop a product which is wearable and resused everyday waste materials. In my project I wanted to take my passion for coffee and repurpose discarded coffee sacks to create a unique laptop bag that was a very personal product to it users.

Features The bag include Velcro closures and opening, a blue fabric mesh that offers protection from bumps and scratches, a shoulder strap to help users to wear the bag and easily transport.

Inspiration I found inspiration in my enjoyment of going to coffee shops and drinking coffee, where the idea for coffee bean sacks came along to use as my main material.

Materials The material Hessian easily frays so I applyed eco-friendly PVA glue to the material, which gave the material more structure and stopped it from fraying, so I could easily cut it and make the bag without it fraying.

Mountain Brew Starpack partnered up with universities to create designs for a new luxury coffee range. My design Mountain Brew were amongst the chosen designs as winners for the competition. The aim of the project was to create a barista style coffee at home that had a personailty of creative, imaginative style with a secondary use for an end of life purpose.

:lite Blox lite introduces children age 8 - 12 to robotics. Creating a platform between learning to code and building with bloxs bricks to provide an accessible product that educates children in a simple and fun way at an affordable price.

Inspiration The inspiration for my idea came from my own experience of learning to code with the bbc microbit. Where I then took existing technology into blox bricks.

Process and 3D Printing (CAD renders) I got the chance to 3D print the Blox lite case concept. It gave me the opportunity to check sizes, shapes and build models with the wilko blox bricks.
