Albert II wore his ceremonial military costume and Princess Charlène wore a cream outfit. Prince Albert II was the first sovereign in the world to announce that he accepted the invitation to the coronation. The news had surprised the media since no monarch had attended previous British coronations. Charles III put an end to this tradition by inviting foreign heads of state and sovereigns for the first time. In 1953, at the coronation of Elizabeth II, it was Prince Pierre of Monaco, father of Sovereign Prince Rainier III, who represented his son.
