International Monaco Dog Show: One Thousand Canines compete for Prestigious Prizes
HSH Prince Albert II and Princess Caroline were in attendance and awarded the winners of the International Monaco Dog Show on 6–7 May. Nine judges from different countries selected the winners. The weekend event comes on the heels of a new agreement which was signed between the International Monaco

Dog Show and the Royal Kennel Club. The agreement means that, starting next year, winners in the Principality can participate in Crufts, the largest dog show in the world! An Italian Shorthaired Pointer won Best in Show, a Bearded Collie won second best and a Royal Poodle won third. Ten other prizes were awarded to the best dogs in each group.
Maria Callas Monaco Gala & Awards was held in honour of the centenary of the great Greek Diva
On May 12th, the Monte-Carlo Opera hosted the third Maria Callas Monaco Gala & Awards. This year, one of the most famous opera performers of the century would have turned a hundred years old, and the fans of her inimitable talent gathered to celebrate this anniversary. The evening was attended by Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène, as well as the famous Greek singer and UNICEF ambassador Nana Mouskouri. More than three hundred guests of the gala watched the performances of the modern opera stars accompanied by the Parisian Orchestra conducted by Nicolas Krause, then the award ceremony was started. There was also an exhibition of Maria Callas’ personal items presented by Nikos Charalampopoulos.
The evening continued with a charity dinner in the Salle d’Empire of the Hôtel de Paris, followed by a concert, a fashion show and the Artcurial Monaco auction, which featured works by contemporary artists. All funds raised were donated to the Princess Charlène Foundation.
World Class Swimmers Flock to Monaco to Celebrate the Mare Nostrum 40th Edition
Mare Nostrum is a series of swimming competitions with three meets around the Mediterranean culminating in the most famous one in Monaco at the Louis II stadium. The name Mare Nostrum is one of the special names given to the “Mediterranean” “our sea” and is where Princess of Monaco, “our Princess” as Charlène Wittstock won a gold medal in 2000 under the watchful eye of Prince Albert. The very best of the world swimmers faced off on May 20th-21st in Monaco to celebrate this 40th edition with spectacular results. Italian Nicolò Martinenghi, a prior Olympic medallist won the final of the
100m breaststroke in (1.00.06) (28.52) and repeated his victory with gold in the final of the 50m breaststroke. Thomas Ceccon of Italy won silver in a very tight final with the American Michael Andrew. The Hong Kong swimmer Siobhan Haughey swam under 53 seconds again in the 100m freestyle in which she holds the seasonal world leadership. The phenomenal 29-year-old Swedish Sarah Sjöström confirmed her position as world leader in the 50m butterfly by swimming the specialty in best time of the year, record of the event and the only athlete in the world to have swum the specialty under 25 seconds in 2023.
