8:00am Holy Communion 10:30am Parish Communion* The Order of Service is contained in the separate service booklet.
Opening Hymn* 1. Now is eternal life, If ris’n with Christ we stand, in him to life reborn, and held within his hand; no more we fear death’s ancient dread, in Christ arisen from the dead.
3. And God, the living God, stooped down to man’s estate; by death destroying death, Christ opened wide life’s gate. He lives, who died; he reigns on high; who lives in him shall never die.
2. Man long in bondage lay, brooding o’er life’s brief span; was it, O God, for naught, for naught, thou madest man? Thou art our hope, our vital breath; shall hope undying end in death?
4. Unfathomed love divine, reign thou within my heart; from thee nor depth nor height, nor life nor death can part; my life is hid in God with thee, now and through all eternity.
Words: George Wallace Briggs (1875-1959) Music: Christchurch, Charles Steggall (1826-1905) © Oxford University Press (Ancient & Modern – 211)
Collect Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of all: govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Old Testament Reading – Job 19.23-27a ‘O that my words were written down! O that they were inscribed in a book! O that with an iron pen and with lead they were engraved on a rock for ever! For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. My heart faints within me!

New Testament Reading – 2 Thessalonians 2.1-5,13-17 As to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we beg you, brothers and sisters, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as though from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord is already here. Let no one deceive you in any way; for that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the lawless one is revealed, the one destined for destruction. He opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, declaring himself to be God. Do you not remember that I told you these things when I was still with you? But we must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth. For this purpose he called you through our proclamation of the good news, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word.
Gradual Hymn* 1. The God of Abraham praise who reigns enthroned above, Ancient of everlasting days, and God of love: Jehovah, great I AM, by earth and heaven confest; we bow and bless the sacred name for ever blest.
3. Before the Saviour’s face the ransomed nations bow, o’erwhelmed at his almighty grace for ever new; he shows his prints of love– they kindle to a flame, and sound through all the worlds above the slaughtered Lamb.
2. The God who reigns on high the great archangels sing, and ‘Holy, holy, holy,’ cry, ‘almighty King, who was, and is the same, and evermore shall be. Jehovah, Father, great I AM, we worship thee.’
4. The whole triumphant host give thanks to God on high; ‘hail, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.’ they ever cry: hail, Abraham's God and mine, (I join the heavenly lays) all might and majesty are thine, and endless praise. Words: based on the Hebrew Yigdal, Thomas Olivers (1725-1799) Music: Leoni, Hebrew melody notated by Thomas Olivers (1725-1799) (Ancient & Modern – 791)

Gospel Reading – Luke 20.27-38 Some Sadducees, those who say there is no resurrection, came to him and asked him a question, ‘Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no children, the man shall marry the widow and raise up children for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the first married, and died childless; then the second and the third married her, and so in the same way all seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had married her.’ Jesus said to them, ‘Those who belong to this age marry and are given in marriage; but those who are considered worthy of a place in that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. Indeed they cannot die any more, because they are like angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection. And the fact that the dead are raised Moses himself showed, in the story about the bush, where he speaks of the Lord as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Now he is God not of the dead, but of the living; for to him all of them are alive.’
Offertory Hymn* 1. Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father, there is no shadow of turning with thee; thou changest not, thy compassions they fail not, as thou hast been thou for ever wilt be. Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided, great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me. 2. Summer and winter, and spring-time and harvest, sun, moon and stars in their courses above, join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy and love. 3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! Words: Thomas Obadiah Chisholm (1866-1960 Music: Faithfulness (Runyan), William Marion Runyan (1870-1957) © 1951 Hope Publishing/Song Solutions CopyCare (Ancient & Modern – 650)

Communion Anthem* We will remember them, we will remember them. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them, we will remember them. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them, we will remember them. Words: Ode to Remembrance, from For the Fallen, Laurence Binyon (1869-1943) Music: Peter Thompson
Communion Hymn* 1. Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side; bear patiently the cross of grief and pain; leave to your God to order and provide; in every change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. 2. Be still, my soul: your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past. Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake, all now mysterious shall be clear at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know his voice, who ruled them while he dwelt below. 3. Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart and all is darkened in the vale of tears, then you shall better know his love, his heart, who comes to soothe your sorrow, calm your fears. Be still, my soul: for Jesus can repay From his own fullness all he takes away. 4. Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on when we shall be for ever with the Lord, when disappointment, grief and fear are gone, sorrow forgotten, love’s pure joys restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past all safe and blessèd we shall meet at last. Words: Stille meine Wille, dein Jesus hilft siegen, Katharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel (1697-after 1768), tr Jane Laurie Borthwick (1813-1897) Music: Finlandia, Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) (Ancient & Modern – 594)

Post Communion Prayer God of peace, whose Son Jesus Christ proclaimed the kingdom and restored the broken to wholeness of life: look with compassion on the anguish of the world, and by your healing power make whole both people and nations; through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
Final Hymn* 1. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home;
4. A thousand ages in thy sight are like an evening gone, short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun.
2. Under the shadow of thy throne thy saints have dwelt secure; sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defence is sure.
5. Time, like an ever-rolling stream, bears all its sons away; they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the opening day.
3. Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame, from everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same.
6. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, be thou our guard while troubles last, and our eternal home.
Words: Isaac Watts (1674-1748) Music: St Anne, Melody & bass from A Supplement to the New Version of the Psalms, 1708, probably by William Croft (1678-1727) (Ancient & Modern – 746)

Communications Working Group The Communications Working Group is looking at all aspects of communication at All Saints and in the wider Team Ministry. This is chaired by Kevin Slingsby, and other members are Kevin Andrews, David Dyer, Beryl Kirtland, Victor Hall, Millie Long, Stewart Long, John Tomalin. As well as the pewsheet, we are looking at the Team magazine and the website (and indeed other forms of communication). Areas we have identified as important are communication of what is happening in the church to members of our congregation as well as to the wider community, and particularly between members of the different churches within the Team Ministry. We are also currently looking at the production of a Welcome Pack for new members and visitors. If you come across good examples of communication media in other churches when you are visiting, whether printed material or online, we would be pleased to hear about them. Please have a word with Kevin or one the group members if you have any ideas.
