8:00am Holy Communion 10:30am Family Communion* The Order of Service is contained in the separate Service Book.
Opening Hymn* 1. Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome all are welcome in this place 2. Let us build a house where prophets speak and words are strong and true, where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew. Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace; here as one we claim the faith of Jesus.
3. Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat: a banquet hall on holy ground where peace and justice meet. Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space; as we share in Christ the feast that frees us 4. Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone to heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known. Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face; let us bring an end to fear and danger:
5. Let us build a house where all are named their songs and visions heard and loved and treasured, taught and claimed, as words within the Word. Build of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace, let this house proclaim from floor to rafter Words & Music: Marty Haugen (b 1950) © 1994 GIA Publications Inc (Ancient & Modern – 365)
Collect Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ have overcome death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: grant that, as by your grace going before us you put into our minds good desires, so by your continual help we may bring them to good effect; through Jesus Christ our risen Lord. Amen.

First Reading – Acts 7.55-60 Standing before the high priest and the council, Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. ‘Look,’ he said, ‘I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!’ But they covered their ears, and with a loud shout all rushed together against him. Then they dragged him out of the city and began to stone him; and the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul. While they were stoning Stephen, he prayed, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he knelt down and cried out in a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not hold this sin against them.’ When he had said this, he died.
Second Reading – 1 Peter 2.2-10 Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation – if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture: ‘See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.’ To you then who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner’, and ‘A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall.’ They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Gradual Hymn* For I’m building a people of power and I’m making a people of praise, that will move through this land by my Spirit, and will glorify my precious name. Build your church, Lord, make us strong, Lord, join our hearts, Lord, through your Son. Make us one, Lord, in your body, in the kingdom of your Son. Gospel – John 14.1-14 Jesus said: “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”
Offertory Hymn* 1. To God be the glory! great things he hath done; so loved he the world that he gave us his Son; who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that all may go in. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord! let the earth hear his voice; praise the Lord, praise the Lord! let the people rejoice: O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son, and give him the glory; great things he hath done. 2. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood! to every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. 3. Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see. Communion Hymns* 1. There is a higher throne than all this world has known, where faithful ones from ev’ry tongue will one day come. Before the Son we’ll stand, made faultless through the Lamb; believing hearts find promised grace: salvation comes.
2. And there we’ll find our home, our life before the throne; we’ll honour him in perfect song where we belong. He’ll wipe each tear-stained eye, and thirst and hunger die; the Lamb becomes our Shepherd King: we’ll reign with him.
Hear heaven’s voices sing, their thund’rous anthem rings through em’rald courts and sapphire skies, their praises rise. All glory, wisdom, pow’r, strength, thanks and honour are to God, our King who reigns on high, for evermore. Words & Music: Keith Getty and Kristyn Lennox © 2002 Thankyou Music (The Source – 1538)
By your side I would stay; in your arms I would lay. Jesus, lover of my soul, nothing from you I withhold.
Lord, I love you, and adore you; what more can I say? You cause my love to grow stronger with every passing day. (repeat) Words & Music: Noel and Tricia Richards © 1989 Kingsway’s Thankyou Music (The Source – 60)
Post Communion Prayer Eternal God, whose Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life: grant us to walk in his way, to rejoice in his truth, and to share his risen life; who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen.

Final Hymn* 1. God is our strength and refuge, our present help in trouble, and we therefore will not fear, though the earth should change! Though mountains shake and tremble, though swirling waters are raging, God the Lord of hosts is with us evermore!
2. There is a flowing river, within God’s holy city; God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved! God’s help is swiftly given, thrones vanish at his presence, God the Lord of hosts is with us evermore!
3. Come, see the works of our maker, learn of his deeds all-pow’rful; wars will cease across the world when he shatters the spear! Be still and know your creator, uplift him in the nations, God the Lord of hosts is with us evermore! O praise the Lord, for it is a good thing to sing praises | unto ∙ our | God : yea a joyful and pleasant | thing it | is ∙ to be | thankful. The Lord doth | build up ∙ Je- | rusalem : and gather to- | gether ∙ the | outcasts ∙ of | Israel. He healeth those that are | broken ∙ in | heart : and giveth | medicine ∙ to | heal their | sickness. He telleth the | number of ∙ the | stars : and | calleth ∙ them | all ∙ by their | names. Great is our Lord and | great is ∙ his | power : yea | and his | wisdom ∙ is | infinite. The Lord | setteth up ∙ the | meek : and bringeth the un- | god-ly | down ∙ to the | ground. Who giveth fodder | unto ∙ the | cattle : and feedeth the young | ravens ∙ that | call up- | on him. Anthem The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, he leadeth me beside the still waters. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; you will comfort me. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever. Words: Psalm 23 Music: Howard Goodall (b 1958)
