Hymn 1. Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live, a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive. Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace; here the love of Christ shall end divisions: All are welcome, all are welcome all are welcome in this place 2. Let us build a house where prophets speak and words are strong and true, where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew. Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace; here as one we claim the faith of Jesus.
3. Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine and wheat: a banquet hall on holy ground where peace and justice meet. Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space; as we share in Christ the feast that frees us 4. Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone to heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known. Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face; let us bring an end to fear and danger: 5. Let us build a house where all are named their songs and visions heard and loved and treasured, taught and claimed, as words within the Word. Build of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace, let this house proclaim from floor to rafter Words & Music: Marty Haugen (b 1950) © 1994 GIA Publications Inc (Ancient & Modern – 365)
First Reading – Luke 4.16-21 When Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.’ And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, ‘Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.’
Second Reading – Matthew 25.31-40 Jesus said, ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right
hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
Third Reading – Acts 16.20-34 When they had brought Paul and Silas before the magistrates, they said, ‘These men are disturbing our city; they are Jews and are advocating customs that are not lawful for us as Romans to adopt or observe.’ The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates had them stripped of their clothing and ordered them to be beaten with rods. After they had given them a severe flogging, they threw them into prison and ordered the jailer to keep them securely. Following these instructions, he put them in the innermost cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was an earthquake, so violent that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were unfastened. When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, since he supposed that the prisoners had escaped. But Paul shouted in a loud voice, ‘Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.’ The jailer called for lights, and rushing in, he fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. Then he brought them outside and said, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ They answered, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.’ They spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. At the same hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and his entire family were baptized without delay. He brought them up into the house and set food before them; and he and his entire household rejoiced that he had become a believer in God.
Reflection on Prison Ministry Hymn 1. Amazing grace! how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me; I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.

2. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; how precious did that grace appear, the hour I first believed. My chains are gone, I’ve been set free, my God, my Saviour has ransomed me. And like a flood his mercy reigns, unending love, amazing grace. 3. The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; he will my shield and portion be as long as life endures. My chains are gone… (x2) 4. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine. But God who called me here below will be forever mine. Farewells and Reflections Presentation of Choir Awards Anthem When I am down and, oh, my soul so weary, when troubles come and my heart burdened be, then I am still, and wait here in the silence until you come and sit a while with me. You raise me up so I can stand on mountains; you raise me up to walk on stormy seas. I am strong when I am on your shoulders; you raise me up to more than I can be. Hymn 1. Show me the way of the cross once again, denying myself for the love that I've gained. Everything's You now, everything’s changed; it's time You had my whole life, You can have it all. Yes, I resolve to give it all; some things must die, some things must live; not, ‘What can I gain?’ but, ‘What can I give?’ If much is required when much is received, then You can have my whole life, Jesus, have it all. 2. I’ve given like a beggar, but lived like the rich, and crafted myself a more comfortable cross. Yet what I am called to is deeper than this; it's time You had my whole life, You can have it all. Words & Music: Matt Redman © 1996 Thankyou Music (Songs of Fellowship – 1000)
Prayers Hymn 1. To God be the glory! great things he hath done; so loved he the world that he gave us his Son; who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life-gate that all may go in. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord! let the earth hear his voice; praise the Lord, praise the Lord! let the people rejoice: O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son, and give him the glory; great things he hath done. 2. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood! to every believer the promise of God; the vilest offender who truly believes that moment from Jesus a pardon receives. 3. Great things he hath taught us, great things he hath done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son; but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see. Words: Frances Jane van Alstyne (Fanny J Crosby) Music: To God be the glory, William Howard Doane (The Source – 526)
