8:00am Holy Communion* 10:30am Parish Communion The Order of Service is contained in the separate Service Book.
Opening Hymn* 1. For all the saints who from their labours rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesu, be for ever blest. Alleluia. 2. Thou wast their rock, their fortress and their might; thou, Lord, their Captain in the well-fought fight; thou, in the darkness, still their one true light. Alleluia. 3. O may thy soldiers, faithful, true and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old, and win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold. Alleluia. 4. O blest communion, fellowship divine! we feebly struggle, they in glory shine; yet all are one in thee, for all are thine. Alleluia. 5. And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, steals on the ear the distant triumph-song, and hearts are brave again, and arms are strong. Alleluia. 6. The golden evening brightens in the west; soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest; sweet is the calm of paradise the blest. Alleluia. 7. But lo, there breaks a yet more glorious day; the saints triumphant rise in bright array: the King of glory passes on His way. Alleluia. 8. From earth’s wide bounds, from ocean’s farthest coast, through gates of pearl streams in the countless host, singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Alleluia. Words: William Walsham How (1823-1897) Music: Sine Nomine, Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) (Ancient & Modern – 296)

Collect Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: grant us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living that we may come to those inexpressible joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.
First Reading – Revelation 7.9-17* After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!’ And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, singing, ‘Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.’ Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, ‘Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?’ I said to him, ‘Sir, you are the one that knows.’ Then he said to me, ‘These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’
Second Reading – 1 John 3.1-3 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
4
Gradual Hymn* 1. Blest are the pure in heart, for they shall see our God; the secret of the Lord is theirs; their soul is Christ’s abode.
3. Still to the lowly soul he doth himself impart, and for his dwelling and his throne chooseth the pure in heart.
2. The Lord, who left the heavens our life and peace to bring, to dwell in lowliness with men, their pattern and their King;
4. Lord, we thy presence seek; may ours this blessing be; give us a pure and lowly heart, a temple meet for thee.
Words: John Keeble (1792-1866) and others Music: Franconia, Harmonischer Lieder-Schatz 1738, adapted by William Henry Havergal (1793-1870) (Ancient & Modern – 602)
Gospel – Matthew 5.1-12 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
Offertory Hymn* 1. Ye watchers and ye holy ones, bright Seraphs, Cherubim and Thrones, raise the glad strain, Alleluia. Cry out, Dominions, Princedoms, Powers, Virtues, Archangels, Angels’ choirs, Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
3. Respond, ye souls in endless rest, ye Patriarchs and Prophets blest, Alleluia, alleluia. Ye holy Twelve, ye Martyrs strong, all Saints triumphant, raise the song Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
2. O higher than the Cherubim, more glorious than the Seraphim, lead their praises, Alleluia. Thou Bearer of the eternal Word, most gracious, magnify the Lord. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
4. O friends, in gladness let us sing, supernal anthems echoing, Alleluia, alleluia. To God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit, Three in One. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
Words: John Athelstan Riley (1858-1945) Music: Lasst uns Erfreuen (Easter Song), Melody from an Easter hymn in Geistliche Kirchengesang Cologne 1623, arr Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) (Ancient & Modern – 312)

Communion Anthem* O Thou whose all-redeeming might crowns every saint in glory bright, on this commemoration day hear us, good Jesu, while we pray.
Earth’s fleeting joys they counted naught, for higher, truer joys they sought, and now, with Angels round thy throne, unfading treasures are their own.
Contending for thy holy name thy servants earned their saintly fame, which pious hearts with praise revere in constant memory year by year.
O grant that we, most gracious God, may follow in the steps they trod; and. Freed from every stain of sin, as they have won may also win.
To thee, O Christ, our loving King, all glory, praise, and thanks we bring; whom with the Father we adore and Holy Ghosr for evermore. Amen. Words: 8th century hymn tr R M Benson SSJE (1824-1915) (altered) Music: Plainsong melody. Mode viii, arr David Blackerll (b 1961)

For all the saints who named your will, in how they lived and where they moved, and saw your kingdom coming still for mindful women, caring men, through selfless protest, prayer and praise, accept our gratitude again. accept the gratitude we raise. 2. For all the saints who loved your name, 4. Bless all whose will or name or love whose faith increased the Saviour’s fame, reflects the grace of heaven above. who sang your songs and shared your word, Though unacclaimed by earthly powers, accept our gratitude, good Lord. your life through theirs has hallowed ours. Words: John L Bell (b 1949) & Graham Maule (b 1958) Music: O Waly Waly, English trad melody, arr Noël Tredinnick (b 1949) © Wild Goose Resource Group, The Iona Community (Ancient & Modern – 297)
Post Communion Prayer God, the source of all holiness and giver of all good things: may we who have shared at this table as strangers and pilgrims here on earth be welcomed with all your saints to the heavenly feast on the day of your kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Final Hymn* 1. Thanks be to God for his saints of each past generation, one with us still in one body, one great congregation; with them proclaim Jesus for ever the same, Author of life and salvation. 2. Thanks be to God for his blessings which daily surround us; glory to Christ, the Redeemer who sought us and found us, who from the grave rose, the almighty to save, breaking the fetters that bound us. 3. Thanks be to God for the years that are yet in his keeping, trusting each day to the care of a Father unsleeping, on to the end, Christ our companion and friend, joy at the last for our weeping. 4. Thanks be to God who has called us and daily defends us, who with the Son and the Spirit unchanging befriends us; now in that name, Jesus for ever the same, forth to his service he sends us. Words: Timothy Dudley-Smith (b 1926) Music: Lobe Den Herren, German 17th century melody, harm editors of The Chorale Book for England 1863 © Timothy Dudley-Smith (Ancient & Modern – 310)
