Oakland Planning and Development Corporation is looking for Artists! We have an exciting opportunity for local artists to have their work promoted all over Pittsburgh! The office of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl recently announced at a public press conference that Oakland Planning and Development Corporation (OPDC) received a “Love Your Block grant; the grant money is in the form of a $500 Home Depot gift card. This gift card will go towards the building material for a public art project at Frazier Farms, a community garden on Frazier Street (see picture below). This is a highly valued space by our community, and we would like to make it look more beautiful. We seek an artist to volunteer their services to create a public art project with the community. Applying artists will be given full creative expression to create an open-ended project (e.g. sculpture, mosaic, painting, etc), however the finished product will need to be able to withstand outdoor conditions. OPDC is looking for an artist to submit a project that would include at least 20 community volunteers (we will provide support in obtaining community members to volunteer). Any materials that need to be purchased for the project must be from Home Depot or through a donation. The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 9th, 2011, and then, a committee of Oakland community members and OPDC staff will review the submissions. We will work closely with the chosen artist after the review period to provide any support as needed, and we strongly recommend having the primary workday on October 22nd. Please email all submissions and questions to ssu@opdc.org or send applications by mail to: OPDC Attn: Samuel K Su 235 Atwood Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213
