editor's note I am delighted to be the Editor-in-Chief of the third edition of the oasis toastmasters club's oasis outlook magazine. My main objective was to bring to you the most interesting aspects of the activities of our club which were carried out with some difficulty but continuously subject to the new rules and regulations imposed in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation from the beginning of the year. I strongly believe that there is nothing impossible as a team and I have created a small team of people from the oasis family with different abilities and ideas to support me in this work as well. TM Indusara Abeykoon, TM Sithiji Kavishma and TM Muzaffar Mazaheem are members of my team and their support as content creators was a great help in completing this task. It is my responsibility to create a backup team for the future PR activities of the club as the current VPPR of the club and I have started training the above team for this. The advice and guidance of the experienced members of our club was a great help in making the third launch of oasis out look a success and my special thanks to TM Chamil Madusanka and TM Chirantha Sirikumara who have always been with us advising from the beginning. Finally, a big thank you to my team, authors of articles, and our lovely members & guests for their utmost commitment and contribution in giving life to Oasis Outlook. after all, it is this care and devotion that ignites the spirit and binds a family together!

MESSAGE OF DISTRICT DIRECTOR -DTM NOORUL MUNAWWARA-
" Oasis Toastmasters Club' was founded by TM Chandra Liyanaarachchi who had a passion for Toastmasters and had a huge enthusiasm to take Toastmasters to his own village and to share the value of Toastmaster experience among unprivileged who had hardly any access to receive the same experience.I still remember how he put up a separate meeting room within his own premises to conduct 'OASIS TMC meetings. If he still had the fortunate of living he would have been 'THE PERSON' who was proud of seeing the progress of OASIS Toastmasters Club. Members of OASIS TMC , you have multi talent strength in your club. All of you are contributing immensely to make the club as one of 'THE CLUB' status from one of 'A CLUB". Kudos to all of you for your creative thinking to take your club to another step forward. WHAT IS NEXT ?
Being surrounded by hundreds of villages you have responsibilities to groom an unprevillaged youngsters who will be 'TOMORROW LEADERS" of Mother Lanka and make your charter President's dream come true.Take a challenge to initiate a project to spread the 'ROOT OF TOASTMASTERS WHERE LEADERS ARE MADE' not just BRANCH and feel the greatness of being a "TOASTMASTER"

MESSAGE OF AREA DIRECTOR -TM CHAMIL MADUSANKAIt’s my great pleasure to share my thoughts through the first Newsletter of Oasis Toastmasters Club, in the toastmasters year 2020/2021. At the beginning of the year, Area F1 set the goal with the theme of “Grow Together” which focuses on enhancing quality, strengthening membership, and providing more opportunities for our members within and outside the clubs and support each other in the area to grow themselves. Oasis TMC has become a pillar of Area F1 in every aspect.
Strengthening membership during the first membership
drive of the year, 100% pathways enrollment, the progress of district goals submission, creating many channels of member engagement with fun full events, the performance of members at Area, and division contests were some of the memorable achievements that I witnessed throughout. They have already achieved 8 DCP points,
Smedley award. The
other point that I have noticed is how members of Oasis are enjoying themselves at every point that they will be connected and working together. This reflects the positive culture that supports members to grow with a positive learning experience. I would wish all the members of the Oasis Toastmasters Club all the best to achieve the pinnacle of success this year.
CHAMIL MADUSANKA AREA DIRECTOR AREA 1 | DIVISION F | DISTRICT 82
MESSAGE OF PRESIDENT -TM NEETHA PERERAI joined the Oasis Toastmasters club in 2017. Friendly members and a vibrant atmosphere. I have had the opportunity to work with and learn from our senior leaders like TM Kamburawela, TM Wimal Rajapaksha, and also our dedicated members TM Chirantha, TM Chamil, my current term as president coming to a close in 6 months. Our current exco is very enthusiastic and it has been a great honor and learning experience for me to working with them. They have all working to make every meeting creative, fun, and a learning experience for our members and guests. Our club is home to some great speakers and leaders who I'm sure will guide and mentor our new members in achieving their goals. Last year we have achieved the Golden Gavel award as the result of the great involvement of our immediate past president TM Chamil and the exco. As toastmasters, we must be ready to listen and adapt, always drawing upon our core values; Integrity, Respect, Services, Excellence. If we live these values and apply them to all aspects of our lives, we are there at our targets in toastmasters. I wish our members all success in achieving greatness.

INSTALLATION CEROMONY 2020
Oasis Toastmasters, Nittambuwa had their 10th Installation Ceremony exhilarated with the theme Explore-Excellence-Enjoy. The entire ceremony was fabricated around ‘Bathik’ and ‘Clay’ which added value to Sri Lankan heritage. It is said that the Batik tradition was brought to Sri Lanka by the Dutch, while some also claim that it already existed for much longer on the island. Bathik designs are unique to Sri Lanka and Bathik clothes are ideal for the tropical climate.

English is most important language for everyone . So i think , I must improve my speaking ability .When looking for a place for it I found Oasis toastmasters club. The first day I went to the club I was very nervous. I thought I would be embarrassed if I could not speak properly. But the meeting was very cordial so I was able to attend without any difficulty. I think it is the best place to success our life targets and improve our leadership qualities and personality too.
-TM I. Rajanayaka-
I do really believe Toastmaster International is a good platform for anyone to improve their ability of selling ideas. Furthermore, it will help you to fine tune your soft skills . As it offers opportunities to improve your communication, negotiation, and leadership skills by yourself and with the help of fellow Toastmasters. I hope this new journey with Oasis Toastmaster will drive me towards another dimension in my life.

CHAT WITH A CHAMPION Becoming one of the champions out of many champions is not an easy task. Toastmasters; as a platform to improve oneself helps every individual to become the best and Toastmaster Luisa Montalvo is another personality who achieved success through the Toastmasters. Also TM Luisa Montalvo accepted our invitation to exchange the thoughts and to be a part of Oasis Toastmasters club newsletter very enthusiastically.
1. What made you become a Toastmaster? I was at work and walking to the HR office and heard laughter coming for a meeting room! I stopped and peeked in through the door window and didn’t know it was a Humorous contest!!! I waited till the contestant finished and walked in and said , “ I want to join!!”
2. What are the Challenges a new Toastmaster can face in the club? Challenges for a new Toastmaster is usually conquering their own fear of public speaking! I love watching a new member transform into a great speaker!!
3. How has Toastmasters helped you transform yourself, in personal life and professional life? In my personal life, Toastmasters has not only made me a better listener, but has also taught me how to lose!! After losing at the district level for 6 years, I continued to reinvent myself and grow as a speaker!!
4. When did you first appear at the International Speech Contest and your experience? I’ve been competing in the International Speech Contest since 2013 and finally won at the district level in 2019!.I’ve never experienced anything filled with such positive energy!! Last year was my 1st international convention and it makes me sad to realize I’ve missed so many other conventions. There was such a formal feel to everything, yet I felt as if I was with family!! Truly one of the high points of my life!!

5. How has the experience of competing helped you? Competing has taught me so many things I didn’t know about myself!! I had no idea I could keep coming up with different ideas on writing a winning speech! I had no idea that I would learn not to take it personal if I didn’t place at a contest!
6. Mentors, are they helpful?
" Mentors can be amazing only if they have YOUR growth as the priority "
7. Tips to deliver an impactful speech?
There are so many tips on giving an impactful speech! Making the speech relevant to the audience, balancing it with humor, incorporating appropriate visual aids or props, having a sincere and powerful message just to name a few!!
8. Advice for humorous and international contestants? Speak about something that will show the passion in you!! Make the audience laugh, whether it’s with you or at you, but be tasteful!! But the most important thing is to have fun!!!
9. How do you make a balance between your personal life & professional life and find time for TM activities? I’m blessed to have gone into early retirement so I might possibly have more spare time than most!! I volunteer for an animal rescue and divide my time between that, Toastmasters and family!!
10. A Message to those who are afraid to speak in public? For those afraid to speak in public, but WANT to, my advice is to take it slow and at your own pace when you join Toastmasters!! I’m hoping the club they join is sensitive to their need and has patience. I promise that the more meetings they attend, the more their fear will subside!!! Best of luck to ALL who join Toastemasters !!! For whatever reason you join, may Toastmasters be the answer you’ve been seeking!!

For this I have selected three members from my club, namely TM Senodi Adhikari, TM Sithiji Kavishma, and TM Chamodith Ranasinghe. Now they are working with me for all VP Education related work and gradually I pass my knowledge and experience to them so that they can learn the role and perform better than me in the future.
