This project focused on the development of a mixed use facility that will be in operation for 24/7, which its approach is to find meaningful solutions to complex architectural problems in the issues of multi storey buildings. It is also an intergration of work, live and play merging up with architecture.
THE ART THEATRE
The project also focused on makin Newtown a walkable experience mainly because of non-vehicular commuters,focusing again on accessibility; creation of paths that are usable by pedestrians, cyclists and vendors. Creation of events along the way that make the street lively with all sorts of human activities andenhancing socialing and perception of safety.

BUILDING FORM APPROACH
The structure is developed on an existing building footprint of a motor spares shope called MAD-MAX.
The scale of the structure is in respect of the eastern and the western side of the building.

Project Outcomes The aim of this GROUP project was to deal with a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between design and construction (or the poetic and the practical) for a precedent study that relates to our design brief. We were to choose a precedent which has a strong visible concept and analyze the expression of that concept at two critical details. The critical details to be analyzed are as follows: 1. How it touches the ground. 2. How it touches the sky. This analysis focused on the two strongly inter-related disciplines of design and construction. We were therefore asked to analyze both how the details reinforces the overall concept, and how they are physically constructed. The detail was to be explored along the lines of: Form – a 3-dimensional shape; an arrangement of parts. Force – an influence tending to change the motion of a body or produce motion or stress in a stationary body. Materials – the elements or constituent parts of a subject. Connection – the point at which two elements are joined.

E3 - SHELTER : MOBILE SHELTER FOR REFUGEES IN 6 WORLD CITIES Tectonic research about climate, cultural context, connections learnt from nature, plant forms etc Photographic documentation of roads, mobile refuge spaces etc. We were to design a minimal but highly intelligent shelter for the invisible refugees who roam around the city of our choice. For this to function effectively, we were to graphically consider every cultural & climatic context, eg. JHB ‘highveld’ climate, which affects thermal comfort as part human comfort in design & construction, as well as a very brief mapping of the demographic areas where the homeless come from & go to. This shelter must provide efficient comfort, but as a living organism, it could be used to harvest water & alternative energy within an extremely low budget, in order to survive. Basic tasks like harvesting rainwater, wind or solar energy could be incorporated. In the design process identity of the homeless miners as residents of JHB must be considered, so that this shelter serves as an “Intelligent Skin”, functionally responsive to its context, but like its natural counterpart it also as the surface of identity. The Shelter will be made as a working prototype, to be completed by with mapping sketches from site analysis & design development sketches done in representation towards the construction technology.

Elective 6 (Protest city) This elective/ project follows a constructivist learning theory approach (that is, students construct their own understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing and reflecting on our experiences). Therefore you are as much as a subject of the research enquiry. this elective also follows a cyclic process of design instead of a linear approach to deepen our understading of the project theme and objectives. The rise of protest action in South Africa and the world since 1959, and more prominently with the “fall_ist movements”, may mean that protest is something that has become part of our culture. If that is so, then how do we as architects and urbanists respond to protest? and how do we design for proteters or spaces for freedom of expression?

Adaptive reuse of an exisisting structure Located at the abandoned area of Pretoria, the scheme aims to engage the public through architecture and to become a seamless interchange of public and residential activities. Constant pedestrian movement around the parameter of the building, as well as public activities and traffic flow. Sculpts its monumental architectural form establishing more than a static architectural state. It defines a new and regenerative commercial typology. It is a symbol of new architectural influence and the future of a new living center in Pretoria. The main idea was to also create different building functions mainly as housing with possibility of developing restaurants, shops, and other facilities on ground floor. The task was to solve the modular layouts of apartments and commercial spaces and to provide façade solutions and material proposals. In this project the main focus was to design spaces of confort. Natural light, Temperature, Natural ventilation, Social interaction, Views, Natural environments and Access. These are the first steps taken toward creating a confortable building, but essentially all this does is prevent discomfort. Comfort is trully filling at home , being with ones you love and is intagible. Harmonising these aspects of an experience creates an experience of a truly comfortable space. This space that engages the occupants through all their senses. The basic building form separates functions from one another. A concrete frame holds the structure of the building in place. The total building envelope then wraps itself around the structure. The individual envelpes separate functions as circulations on the North acts as spaces for retail on ground floor and residential on the South. These spaces can each be controlled individually by creating incremental levels of thermal comfort.

Bank of Botswana Refurbishment. The Bank was aiming to refurbish and extend its existing premises in order to make optimum use of the existing building infrastructure, while at the same time modernising, reorganising and expanding its facilities to meet the Bank’s operational needs in the medium to long term. The project will entail refurbishmen t of existing buildings (approximately 16 000m2), rationalisation of the connectivity between buildings and selective addition of new buildings (up t o 10 000m2) t o expand office space and conferencing facilities. Significant upgrades of services infrastructure, and some re-organisation of the site layout was required. • Assisted in design development and working drawings.

The Leonardo

The Leonardo is a 55-story mixed-use property development, that has reached a 234 metres in height ,it is just 4,572 metres taller than the previous record holder , the Carlton Centre, which has dominated the Johannesburg skyline since 1973. It contains a mixture of office space, retail shops, restuarant, creche, conf erences, apar tments, duple x es, ho t el r ooms, pen t houses, leo suite, gym and spa. All wrapped around with thin sheets of Dekton, a super -strong material, for its exterior cladding. C has scooped 3 awards for 2019 best projects. The The Leonardo awards were done in categories: architects, consulting engineers, contractors, specialist suppliers and sustainable construction.
