OWNER’S LETTER After an unforgettable summer in 2018, this winter has proven to be a very exciting one with my partners and I spending six months travelling the world, looking for the right destinations to expand the brand. As you know we are now trading as O Beach Ibiza which was necessary for us to move in to new incredible locations, it has been a very smooth transition so thank you everyone for embracing our new name. The O Beach Ibiza team has been busy making some great new additions to the club. Expect new and improved beds and seating areas, as well as huge renovations that we continually work on each year so that club is always improving. A major change this year is the old bar and lounge, Pearl, which we’ve totally transformed inside and out to offer an even better sister venue to the beach club situated just next door. It’s now known as O Beach Lounge and Terrace and comprises of 2 elements: the terrace with sea views is perfect for some al fresco lunch or cocktails and then inside it is fully equipped for those who aren’t ready to end the party after the beach club closes. It’s not just the maintenance team that’s been busy, but our events team too who have put together loads of amazing new shows. The creativity and design work that has gone into the production this year has reached new levels of coolness in design and creativity. When we started our recruitment process, we had thousands and thousands of applicants to choose from and it becomes harder and harder each year to choose who we feel most suitable, but we’re really happy with this year’s recruits and hope you enjoy meeting them all. Also, for the 4th consecutive year now you’ll be pleased to know that all of our drink, food and bed prices have remained the same and hopefully will stay that way for a few more years to come. Whatever happens with Brexit, we promise not to stop delivering high quality service at affordable prices and everyone is welcome here. A massive thank you to everyone who contributes towards making O Beach Ibiza tick like the well oiled machine it is. There are so many people involved in this business and every single one of you is so important to us, our loyal, fun-loving customers who come back year after year. I hope you like what we have in store for you this season.

KEEPING FROM YOU
“The greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” -Roald Dahl photo credit @kimkokonutt
On 1st April 1958, the first flights landed in Ibiza. Every year since then, more and more tourists flock to the White Isle in search of Balearic beats, Mediterranean eats and island treats from coast to coast. The O Beach Ibiza team have called Ibiza home for a long time and we’re ready to bring you 12 amazing secrets the average tourist will miss out on this summer. Get ready to make your friends jealous as we reveal the perfect places for you to experience, enjoy and of course find the best opportunities for #photooftheday on your Instagram feed.
COASTS
CALA XARRACA
CALA AUBARCA
SA PEDRERA CALA D’HORT
With the calm, shallow waters of the northern coast of the island, climb over the rocks to the left, or take a short swim to the right and find tranquil hideaways to make your holiday truly unique.
This beautiful bay surrounded by towering cliffs, giant boulders and a naturally made stone bridge is breathtaking in itself. However it’s the beautiful holes boring into the ground that make this spot unmissable in 2019!
Once a quarry, where stone was excavated to build Ibiza’s famous watchtowers and the walls of the citadel of Ibiza, now stands a tranquil retreat popularly known as Atlantis.
WHY: Surrounded by tiny islands to jump from and swarming with marine life, this is a snorkeler’s paradise.
WHY: While the white sands and crystal clear water in Ibiza are what draw tourists to the beaches, it’s the ancient majesty of the stone formations on this beach that are miraculous. We don’t advise on crossing the stone bridge however as the weather has weakened it.
WHERE: A five minute drive from either San Juan or Portinatx by car. photo credit @vazarainspiracion
WHERE: Whilst there is a dirt track road for access, it’s better to leave your car at the top of the cliffs and walk down where you’ll find flat rocks for sunbathing and ledges to lower yourself into the water. photo credit @kat.sandra
After scaling a steep trail you’ll be welcomed by a labyrinth of caves and magical, naturally occurring sea pools that tempt daring bathers all summer long. WHERE: From Sant Josep, take the road in the direction of Cubells Es Cala d’Hort. Park your car and follow the path straight until you reach the cliff and head down to the sea. photo credit @mariegoettfert

RUSTIC HOTELS Ibiza surprisingly has a hidden rural side, brimming with natural beauty and offering peace and tranquillity. Here’s a selection of charming rustic hotels that are worth a visit to enjoy the island from a different perspective. Don’t worry about not being central, anyone who has travelled to the White Isle knows that everything is but a 20 minute taxi ride away and being tucked away in serenity is totally worth it.
CAN CURREU
CA N’ ESCANDELL
HOTEL MIRADOR
Consisting of five small houses connected to a larger house by winding stone paths, all with wood beamed ceilings and terracotta floors. An on-site gym and sauna will help keep your workouts in check so that you can indulge in delicious Mediterranean cuisine prepared by the on-site chef.
This small 200-year-old house sits so snugly in the surrounding scenery (including trees, cliffs and the natural expanses of Es Amunts) it’s hard to believe it hasn’t always been there. White washed walls supporting distinctive chimneys in every room adhere to the famous ibicencan style of white architecture also adding a modern twist to hotel decor! With a grand total of nine simple and charming rooms, we can’t think of a better way to disappear into Spanish culture and get some great pics for Instagram.
Step back in time on the winding streets of Dalt Vila and lay your head down in the throbbing heart of the city! The spectacular view will have your eyes fighting for something to settle on, between the super yachts in the harbour and the distant horizon, we can’t think of a better place to stay. Modern touches combined with historical detail give this hotel a unique finesse you won’t find anywhere else in Ibiza.
WHY: As the charming owner of the Can Curreu says, it is the heart of the island and provides the best of what Ibiza has to offer. WHERE: Located in Santa Eulalia in the northeast of Ibiza, it seems to be one of those magical places where time ticks away more slowly.
WHY: We couldn’t agree more with the house’s unofficial motto. Go on, “you deserve it”. WHERE: Nestled among the trees in the gorgeous Sant Joan de Labritja. Experience the North of Ibiza in tranquil style!
WHY: The bathrooms are complete with a jacuzzi and marble walls which are a particular highlight. WHERE: DALT VILA of course!
RESTAURANTS Ibicencan cuisine varies vastly from what you might find in mainland Spain. Venture off the beaten track and you’ll find more diversity than you ever expected. Every year new and exciting eateries open in Ibiza and with so much to choose from even we found it hard to whittle it down to just three, but below are a few we think are must visits in 2019!
JUL’S
can limo
LA MUELLA
Discover Mediterranean cuisine like never before, with a unique Greek twist. Expect fresh, innovative dishes made by Greek chefs in a beautiful setting. Jul’s unique combination of organic, local and gourmet foods are paired with candlelit ambience and live performances from Greek musicians! Listen to all your favourite tracks performed in Greek while you dine in a boho chic atmosphere that will transport you to a summer dream.
This fresh and innovative take on Peruvian cuisine mixes traditional dishes and flavours with an Asian twist! The decor is colourful, beautiful and rustically welcoming.
For open air dining. Whether it be under the Mediterranean Sun or Balearic stars you’ll find yourself lost in La Muella’s rural charm. Hidden within the countryside, in the North of Ibiza, a gastronomic experience like no other makes the trip worthwhile.
WHY: The friendly waiting staff will help pair one of their exotic cocktails to your food order. WHERE: Located in the South of Ibiza, on the road to Sa Caleta.
The waiters also know their stuff, talking you through the entire menu flavour by flavour, ingredient by ingredient. Every dish has a purpose or a reason for being on their beautifully crafted menu. Compliment these amazing dishes with Peruvian Pisco cocktails or their large array of Gin and Tonics. WHY: Relax and unwind as the trademark flavours transport you to a Peruvian land set to an Ibicencan backdrop. WHERE: Set in the hills of San José with breathtaking views of San Antonio´s bay!
Named after a utopian planet in Douglas Adam’s literary classic The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, you will find it hard not to feel transported to another world with their delicious dishes! WHY: This self-proclaimed collective of chefs, foodies, designers, artists, musicians, philosophers and artisans is definitely not to be missed. WHERE: Located on the road that runs between San Lorenzo and San Juan in the island’s North.

BARS Ibiza might be known for its discotheques, but it also has a fair share of great bars to compete in the island’s party scene. So follow our lead as we guide you around some hidden gem bars and smaller party venues for a quieter night out, although let’s face it, how quiet can a night in Ibiza be?
AMANTE
SA QUESTIÓ
SUSHIYA AOYAMA IBIZA
While not strictly a bar, set amongst the towering cliffs, Amante is not a venue you simply stumble across.
Nestled amongst the less bustling streets of Ibiza Town lies something that from the outside looks like nothing more than a traditional restaurant. Step inside however, make your way to the right of the deli counter, through a red velvet curtain
Sushiya Aoyama in Ibiza town has now taken the traditional Japanese dining experience in Ibiza to a higher level. So for those seeking fresh, traditional sushi, head to the new place in town. Similar to the Soho streets in NYC or London, this new little venue has the best open kitchen and sake on the block.
Famous for sea views and gorgeous terraces, the reason it made our list is their exceptional cinema nights. Cosy up on a bean bag bed and watch some of your favourite flicks under the stars. WHY: We can’t think of a better way to spend a special night with someone you love than being curled up under the Ibicencan stars. If you’re a singleton the unlimited popcorn and drinks delivered direct to your bean bag is also pretty awesome too. WHERE: High up in the cliffs near Cala Llonga with dramatic sea views
and you’ll find a traditional, dark and vibrant “concerto”. With nights including traditional flamenco dancers, live jazz and the more British Karaoke night, there’s something for all. Check the calendar to see which night you’d prefer, or show up and embark on a journey guided by Ibiza’s rhythm. You won’t be disappointed! WHY: With a bottle of Gin and mixers costing less than 30€ you’ll be up dancing with the locals in no time! WHERE: Conveniently tucked behind Ibiza’s port.
With minimalist Japanese decor, Sushiya Aoyama has a very simple but comfortable space that will make you feel you’re leaving the tourist scene behind. WHY: The most authentic Sake in Ibiza. WHERE: In the town centre, just behind Santa Eulalia’s/Ibiza’s Bus station.
For many years Ibiza has been synonymous with the term ‘Party Capital’ but when you look closer it’s also an island full of iconic spots, hidden gems and breathtaking natural beauty making it a special place you can find yourself falling in love again and again. So where better to find romantic refuge than by indulging in Ibiza’s more refined hedonism.
HOW TO
NATURAL BEAUTY: SUNRISE AT SA TALAIA As hoards of tourists head to the more popular iconic spots on the island for sunset, why not take that special someone away from the crowds and share an unforgettable moment by watching the incredible sunrise. In our opinion there’s nowhere better to experience this than in Sa Talia, located on the south of the island and at Ibiza’s highest point. Listen to the silence and enjoy a moment together while experiencing a new day emerging over the hills. The mountain measures 475 metres and from the top you’ll be able to see Formentera and even Valencia if there’s a clear day without any clouds.
SPA DAYS: HANGING WATERFALLS OF NA XAMENA www.haciendanaxamena-ibiza.com Na Xamena is located on the top of an enchanting cliff offering a five star service to couples wanting to experience the true magical spirit of Ibiza with a touch of luxury. If you’re looking to pull out all the stops and really impress your loved one with an unforgettable day then this serene oasis is the ideal spot. Known for their welcoming and warm staff, expect exceptional treatment as you and your partner unwind in one of Ibiza’s most exclusive hotspots. Not only can you relax poolside and indulge in the phenomenal scenery, but you also have the option of relaxing together getting pampered in the spa, or working up a sweat in their state of the art gym.

COCKTAILS FOR TWO: LAS DOS LUNAS www.lasdoslunas.com Enjoy the Ibicencan summer nights at one of Ibiza’s most iconic restaurants, defined by its secluded location. It’s hidden behind stone walls, creating the perfect date spot to spend some quality one on one time. Unwind under a canopy of Bougainvillea and order two of their amazing cocktails from an extensive menu - getting your Dutch courage will be incredibly tasty.
This is the ideal location for drink, olives and great conversation, so put on your favourite attire and prepare yourself to be bowled over by the ambience of a perfect Ibiza date destination!
QUAD OR BUGGY EXCURSIONS: E MOVE IBIZA www.emoveibiza.com For the thrill seekers amongst us, whose idea of romancing entails more adventure filled activity than spa days or wining and dining, then Ibiza has plenty of activities for you to share with your special someone.
Why not experience Ibiza on a quad bike or buggy? Setting off from San Antonio, enjoy a 3 hour excursion in which you will travel through Ibiza’s countryside exploring various beaches along the way, stopping off for a cool down in the crystal waters of the Mediterranean sea. You will also explore 3 amazing cliff tops which will be the perfect opportunity to capture the moment on camera as a souvenir to look back on in years to come. With so much natural beauty on the island it will be hard to not start feeling grateful as the magical island sucks you both in to what will be one of the most romantic dates for any adrenaline junky.

Ibiza’s often described as a place that never stops giving. It’s a hub of beautiful sunsets, extraordinary parties, jaw-dropping scenery and cuisine fit for a king but it’s safe to say sometimes we need a detox after the detox on this jam-packed island. Although the phrase “After that holiday, I need another holiday” is something we’re likely to have said, how many of us have actually taken one? Unbeknown to many, Ibiza airport is one of the most frequented ones in Spain. It offers flights all over Europe to take you on a short island break before going home. So re-pack your bag and grab your passport because after reading this, you won’t be going home.
ALICANTE
WHEN IN DOUBT, CHILL OUT In just one hour you could be in Alicante city, a little treasure from Costa Blanca that unveils a beautiful Mediterranean city with an interior landscape that gives you plenty of options from mountain hikes to swimming at its beaches. There’s more life behind the hustle and bustle of Benidorm, so make sure you discover this unexpected city in between palm trees and calm atmosphere. O BEACH IBIZA RECOMMENDS: SHA WELLNESS CLINIC From the moment you arrive at Sha Wellness Spa, you’ll be impressed by its extensive wellness philosophy of the specialist, vanguard medical technology and array of health treatments. From a city break to a seven day detox retreat, this is the definite place to health by stealth. Join them for meditation and healthy-cooking sessions that will make a change in your life!
ROME
THE FOODIE’S DREAM After weeks of avoiding your favourite foods so you can feel good in your swimwear, it’s time to indulge yourself. Step off the plane and into a city straight from the history books where you’ll question whether you’re walking around a city or an open air museum. This sprawling, cosmopolitan city will lure you down winding streets and into open squares brimming with life, culture and more varieties of pizza and pasta than you could eat in a lifetime. O BEACH IBIZA RECOMMENDS: Ai Marmi, real name Panattoni but generally referred to as ‘Ai Marmi’, is a fantastic area to get lost in. The pizzeria is open until 2am meaning no matter how long you spend sightseeing, it’s a welcome retreat at the end of the day/night!
berlin
FOR A HYPE ANGLE Did you know that in just 2 hours and 40 minutes you could be in Germany’s capital, with flights starting at just €40. Take a walking tour down Berlin’s Unter den Linden boulevard while listening to an introductory overview of Berlin’s history from its roots to the modern era. For all the fashionistas, the Berlin aesthetic is instantly recognisable and effortlessly cool. It’s a must to discover the second-hand stores and flea markets - just ask a Berliner where they got their T-shirt from and the chances are it’ll be vintage. O BEACH IBIZA RECOMMENDS: Flea Market at Marheinekeplatz: it’s the most colourful one, based in the historical town square and offering everything from second-hand clothes to handmade items.

If you think about stargazing, the skies of London, New York or Berlin do not spring to mind. Bright city lights pollute the sky and cloud the view of the cosmos. A distinct lack of light pollution in Ibiza offers one of the clearest and most intense night skies for stargazing and when those skies reflect on the water, it’s even more breathtaking. Stargazing encourages inspiration and imagination. Long before scientific discoveries, the stars, planets and constellations were the basis of all Greek Mythology. Taking a step back to watch the wonders of the milky way is good for your soul! Don’t miss the opportunity to take some time out and look up at the stars here in Ibiza, because you probably won’t see sights like these anywhere else in the world.
29
The Ascanio Surf School’s moonlit kayak, Platja d’en Bossa
With the Ascanio Surf School near Las Salinas (Ibiza’s salt flats) you can enjoy an hour or two of atmospheric kayaking in small groups every month during the full moon. See the Ibiza sunset up close, moonlit waters and hopefully lots and lots of stars. Discover more via their site: http://ascaniosurfschool.com/
Three Places to Stargaze from...
Time and Space, Cala Llentia
Near Cala Codolar beach is a contemporary art installation called ‘Time and Space’. It was commissioned by Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Liberté and inspired by paranormal phenomena, astronomy and energy. It’s often nicknamed ‘Ibiza’s Stonehenge’ and locals speculate that the structure is an attempt to guide UFOs to a luxury landing place.
Like mood rings, the columns change colour at dusk and the last light of the setting sun reflects off their golden tips. Stick around for a magnificent view of the stars and keep your eyes peeled for aliens.
Formentera
In a hyper-lit, permanently switched-on world, there’s something to be said about visiting Ibiza’s more chilled, little sister island Formentera and disconnecting. It’s peaceful, luxurious and a mustsee. Explore it on bicycle by day and observe nebulae in the sky by night.

For two decades now, Hedkandi has been raising the bar with dance music. In 1999, the then Jazz FM Marketing Exec Mark Doyle founded the brand following years of promoting clubs, DJing and working hard in the ‘biz. Before long Hedkandi catapulted into the dance music stratosphere and the record label established in London became recognised internationally. Doyle, whose parents bought him a record player aged five, and takes influence from all kinds of music genres, spent the first three years at the helm of Hedkandi’s operation presenting every single one of its radio shows. Here, to celebrate the brand’s 20th anniversary, we turned the interviewer into the interviewee.
“When I first came up with the idea of a CD series called Hedkandi, I really had no idea exactly where it was going to go, what it would develop into and just how much it would be embraced,” explains Doyle. “I can’t forget our very first party in Rouge, London where over 2000 people arrived to get into a club that held half as many. Jamiroquai turned up and performed “Space Cowboy” at the end of the night, making it one of my favourite Hedkandi memories. After a few years of the club night successes, the singles, the radio show etc. I think I realised we had created something special.” There’s definitely something hypnotic about the tracks that come with Hedkandi which, as its founder puts it “has so many musical sides, from sun-drenched beach house to uplifting disco.” So how does a song make the cut for a compilation? “The music must always be memorable,” he insists. “When I compile an album or curate a playlist, you’ll find that there’s always something a little bit extraordinary about each track and there’s generally a distinctive vocal.”
with great people and a superb soundtrack. Over the years various people have been involved in Hedkandi. Each person has put their own spin on it and kept it successful.“ One of those is Brighton-based fashion illustrator Jason Brooks, whose style gave the brand its visual identity, ensuring each CD was instantly recognisable. After designing all 5 million Hedkandi albums the label has sold, it seems only right that Brooks returned to create the 20th anniversary artwork. The era of Hedkandi albums was probably the one time you’d be right to judge a book by its cover; Brooks’ illustrations are synonymous with the music: sexy, sophisticated and fun. “There are so many great covers, but I think his work on the disco heaven and twisted disco series was my favourite” Doyle tells us. The dance music powerhouse is now in the seventh year of its O Beach Ibiza residency but Ibiza has long since been Hedkandi’s second home. Doyle feels the same.
Pete Tong was on the decks at Doyle’s first ever club night where he had something of a euphoric experience and it seems like he’s brought that euphoria to the label he created all those years ago.
“Ibiza has so many different faces. A 20 minute journey can take you from the wildest dance floor to a stunning sunrise on a secluded beach. I absolutely love the island and have been visiting since 1995. Watching it develop and change has been so interesting and seeing friends create unique businesses on the island and become ridiculously accomplished has been truly satisfying. I can visit with friends for a chilled vacation, or for a weekend away where I visit 5 or 6 clubs - Ibiza has it all!”
“Everything we do is fuelled by the music,” says Doyle. “Anthemic, funky, vocal house is the beating heart of Hedkandi. The brand embodies an idea or a philosophy rather than a particular music style. It’s about having an amazing time,
Doyle’s favourite tracks will always be “the hits we created, ‘Fade’ and ‘Put Em High’, ‘Ever After’, “Higher Place” and there’s always been a special place in my heart for Late Night Alumni’s ‘Empty Streets’.”
HEDKANDI: THE SEXY SIDE OF HOUSE MUSIC
Join us for the very best of Hedkandi every Monday and celebrate the brand’s 20 year reign over the world’s dance floor this summer.

THE
PROJECT
We are starting to see an exciting change in how the party scene is being used, it’s about more than just filling Saturday nights with good music and socialising with friends, there has been a shift. A community has been created, fuelled by the passion for music, to go out, give back to the world and make a real change. The guys who are currently paving the way are our very own HotBed promoters. Co-founder Kai Cant’s party portfolio also consists of the incredibly popular Abode party series. 2018 was a defining year for the guys in which not only was their Thursday residency at Amnesia a triumph, but along with that they had a huge victory with Abode in the Park as well as other parties throughout the UK and overseas. Their achievements have been used to spread success and with it The ABODE Project was born: a new, hands-on, charitable cause dedicated to helping the villages of Uganda. The old saying goes “music brings people together” and it’s safe to say The Abode Project is a clear example of that. They have used their strong social media presence to influence the younger generation in a positive way. Abode has become a trusted brand amongst the underground party goers. Their followers associate the word ABODE with fun and togetherness. Abode have managed to take their dance floor to the villages of Uganda where not only have they raised over 100K to build orphanages, but uniquely taken their love of house music with them, sharing it with the local children and creating truly touching and spectacular moments, proving that music really is the answer. We caught up with Kai to get his perspective on the cause and what his plans are for The Abode Project’s future.
43
When starting Abode, did you ever know this would come from it? I always knew when starting Abode we were going to do a lot of charity work. I have a passion for making change and have been involved in a lot of charity fundraising over the years. I raised over 200K in the space of 4 years for different organisations, including Cancer Research, Children’s Hospice and Kids Company in London. I had an interest to help kids in crisis in Africa which all started by me going over there with 10K and buying a plot of land. We started by doing one charity event a year, the first one was called Dance for Bill. This came around because one of the girls that used to come to Abode got the awful news that her Dad had been diagnosed with cancer. It was a heartbreaking time for them and they really needed a mobility car to get him to and from the hospital for his treatment. We managed to raise 25K at this event which got him a brand new car that was adapted for his wheelchair and got him back and forth to the hospital, really helping him to stay on top of his health. How have you used your industry contacts to pull help in? From our social media presence we have managed to get 45 volunteers on each trip and each person has had to raise £500 to come, in which we invest back into the school and the surrounding villages. We are trying to make our organisation fun, showing people that charity work doesn’t have to be deadly serious all of the time. We have received a lot of interest in what we are doing, so much so that the BBC want to make it into a documentary, which is really exciting. Everything that has been built out there plays tribute to the organisation or person that has funded it like the O Beach Kitchen which has been painted in the O Beach colours with the logo on the side as a thank you to the club for their amazing donations. How has the project made a difference in Uganda so far? So far we have raised 120K in 2 years for the project, building two schools and thus providing free education to 240 children from some of the poorest communities in Eastern Africa. We are giving children the opportunity to have three hot meals a day: these children would normally struggle to have one meal a day and even that would have to be shared with their family. We have also created a barber shop offering free haircuts for people in the community, enabling them to look and feel good. We are putting some kids through college, getting them into mechanical courses and other trade courses. We have also managed to get 11 teachers full time employment. We are really proud of what we have achieved so far and this is just the start.
Tell us about the festival you will be holding in Uganda We are holding a festival in February 2020 called Ugandace. It’s going to be a collaboration between Abode and a company called Dirty Box Promotions. We will be linking up and doing a 500 minimum capacity festival in Uganda where our main goal is to raise money and hopefully build a school for the Pygmy tribe: they are an indigenous tribe that were pushed out of the forest not so long ago and they now have to try and adapt to a new world and modern society. They currently don’t have any access to jobs, money or food so they rely on donations from tourists to help them get by. From Ugandance we are hoping to make a school and a hospital for the Pygme tribe which will really help towards their future as a society and the health, well-being and opportunities of generations to come. This will be the first ever dance festival in Eastern Africa, playing house, disco and garage music on the highest lake called Bunyonyi which is 2000 meters above sea. We’ve sold the party online through just our videos and social media presence over the last few months and we hosted a party on the last day of the last trip on a private island - a really beautiful location. We know it is a big commitment as it will involve getting travel jabs and malaria tablets and there is a lot of travelling but the end result when you arrive and look out at the lake is mind blowing. I think this is something that will be huge in Uganda and something we could potentially roll out over Africa. What are your plans for the future, how do you see the project developing? To get the primary school completely sustainable by the end of the year so it is completely off grid, install solar panels in every classroom, build teachers’ accommodation and build a shower/toilet block which will be solar powered so we will be running completely on free energy. We are hoping to buy a plot of land next to the school and turn it into a farm and vegetable patch where we can grow all of our own food and have access to milk and eggs etc, in effect cutting food costs right down. We also want to turn the surrounding village, which is a very poor area, into a solar community so we will have an entire village in Uganda completely off grid. It will probably become pretty famous across the globe and it will be funded completely by dance music and the community. For anyone reading who wants to get involved, how can they do so? If you want to get involved head over to the Abode Project Instagram @theabodeproject, drop us a message and we will send an application form. We are looking for skilled people, so plumbers, electricians, teachers, nurses, builders and bricklayers, but anyone who wants to make a change is very welcome. We are also collaborating with O Beach Ibiza on their Thursday event ONE: 1€ from each ticket sold will be donated to the Abode Project charity.

Ahoy sailor! If you like the sound of experiencing Ibiza’s beauty in ways you’d otherwise miss, you’ll have to spend some time at sea. Somewhere along the coast of the white isle sits the perfect boat for you and your friends, her hull gleaming in the afterglow. Where you charter it is up to you, but let us help you with places to drift ashore and reasons to drop an anchor.
IBIZA SUNSETS Everyday in summer, crowds gather at San Antonio’s sunset strip and spill out onto the beach to catch Ibiza’s hypnotic sunset. Every now and then, why not watch it from somewhere new? Enter Cruise Ibiza: cruise along sparkling waters and stop off at a secluded bay to enjoy an intimate view of the setting sun. You should also try the floating joy of chasing the sun across the sea as it sets, from Ibiza Town to Formentera. You’ll have front row seats to one of the greatest shows on Earth, right from the deck! Alternatively, catch a boat on any Sunday of the season to Benirras beach and dance to the beat of locals’ bongo drums as the sun disappears behind the horizon. Boats are available from Portinatx, San Antonio or Port d’es Torrent. Make sure you check the schedule of the nearest location to you.
FLIP OUT All aboard a catamaran from San Antonio (and other spots along the west coast) to Es Vedrá. The destination, famed for mysterious folklore, is amazing but the journey there will be too. If you keep your eyes on the water you should spot dolphins, maybe even a whole pod!
DON’T WORRY ABOUT A THING Looking to chill after a night of no holds barred dancing? Swap frou-frou outfits for something casual and hop onto a water taxi to the Caribbean of Ibiza: Pinet playa - home to the global Reggae bar where there are no bad days. Expect spicy jerk chicken, sweet reggae and strong cocktails to a backdrop of Bob Marley beats. Vegetarians also welcome.
DIVE RIGHT IN One of Ibiza’s best-kept secrets lies halfway between San An and Port de Sant Miquel: an area of coastline called Cap D’Albarca. The roof of a surrounding clifftop fell through several years ago, leaving a hole that stares down a 10m wide pool of scintillating, aquamarine water sealed off from the ocean. Known by experienced adventurers as La Cueva De La Luz (and as The Cave of Light by everyone else), it’s like a sparkling gem in the Med. Water from the sea enters via an underwater gallery, forming a natural swimming pool that’s illuminated by the sunlight’s reflections. Amateurs beware, the Cave of Light is not for the faint of heart. We recommend taking a speedboat here, bracing yourself, and jumping in.
UNDER THE SEA Thanks to Posidonia meadows: a seagrass species and natural treasure specific to the Mediterranean, the sea water in Ibiza is transparent - making it ideal for underwater exploring. This time, be your own captain: Bohemian Boat Charters enable you to rent a traditional Spanish boat and customise your adventure. No sailing experience required, they’ll teach you all you need to know. If you’re new to snorkelling, charter your boat to Aguas Blancas. The beach is stunning and the crystal clear waters are perfect for practicing. For the best in sea life sightings, head to Punta Galeria to swim with schools of baitfish and plenty of octopus.

Have you ever wondered why this magical island is called the White Island? It is thanks to the colour of its churches and traditional architecture, some of them are located in a natural environment with stunning landscapes and breathtaking panoramic views. If you’re looking to take a more cultural trip on the island then get yourself behind the wheel because we’ve got the route for you.
SAN MIGUEL SAN JUAN
SANTA GERTRUDIS SAN CARLOS
SAN AGUSTIN
SAN JUAN Starting on the north side of the island, San Juan’s Church is a very simple but lovely church that was built in the early 19th century. In its history it has been witness to a melting pot of influences between hippies and locals in the 70’s, converting the main square of the church into a scenario of cultural exchange.
Top Tip: Grab a drink from the bar in front of the church and sit on the stairs to enjoy the bustle of the most authentic spot on the island, especially for the Sunday hippy market.
SAN MIGUEL Located at the top of the hill facing the village, San Miguel’s church is really popular amongst locals because of its beautiful architecture. Along with the parish priest’s house, it forms an orderly ensemble with a lovely courtyard closed off with an arched portico that makes it the best location for you to use the Mediterranea hashtag on Instagram.
Top Tip: If you walk around this beautiful church, stop behind the main walls at the viewpoint over San Miguel’s port which is worth a thousand likes on Facebook.
SAN CARLOS Inland on the island, the village of San Carlos has another lovely white church from the last third of the 18th century dominating its centre. It has an outstanding porch with three access archways and a double archway inside. It hosts a lot of festive days in the area such as the calamari day at the end of October where fisherman bring the local product to the town for the restaurants to create the best dish ever. Yummy! Top Tip: This is a must for all visitors, go to Bar Anita which has been standing since the 70’s and make sure you try its cuisine specialties which are all created using local gastronomy,
SANTA GERTRUDIS Once you head south to the other side of the island, don’t forget to stop at the trendy village of Santa Gertrudis. This particular church has orange tones in its walls as well as being part of one of the most vibrant atmospheres at the very heart of the island. From lovely concept shops to tapas bars and restaurants, Santa Gertrudis is truly a hidden treasure. Top Tip: Go get yourself a refreshment in one of the multiple bars that are situated on the main square.
SAN AGUSTIN In a tiny village located between San Antonio and San Jose, San Agustin has the only church in Ibiza facing north rather than south. Legend has it that two influential families fought over getting the church built on their land which is why it faces in the direction it does. From the church square you have one of the most stunning views of the beautiful San Jose hills which should not be missed. Top Tip: This is the perfect ending to your trip so you can catch the sunset in San Antonio’s bay.
