In developing countries, energy transitions need to combine objectives for universal access and for a low-carbon transition by optimizing demand, replacing fossil fuels and decarbonizing production. Our objective: assist actors in the sector in defining, implementing and monitoring ambitious energy transition paths.

Mexico - Supporting the energy transition since 2015 AFD has financed a technical partnership between ADEME and CONUEE (National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy), with the aim of creating an interactive Web database. This database has strengthened CONUEE’s information system on energy consumption and feeds into the country’s and grants for technical cooperation energy efficiency strategy. Financing: EUR 80m sovereign loan

In partnership with the World Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), AFD is financing the government climate change program, the Support Program to Respond to Climate Change (SPRCC). This financing has allowed the development of policies focused on the energy transition: adoption of a roadmap on the integration of renewable energies, development of biomass and wind master plans, regulations for feed-in tariffs, auctions for new capacity, power purchase or energy efficiency agreements in consumer sectors, etc. Financing: EUR 200m sovereign loan
