WELCOME TO THE CELEBRATION A CENTURY IN THE MAKING… Thank you for joining the Orange County Council Boy Scouts of America, in celebrating a century of service to Orange County. To assist in developing this year-long celebration, the Orange County Council established a 100th Committee to oversee planning activities for the centennial year. We will be celebrating our past accomplishments while looking toward to the next 100 years. In Scouting, we place a high premium on role models. That’s how we pass on our values, and embody the important words we speak when we recite the Scout Oath and Law. We are grateful to our volunteer leaders, who week in and week out, work with children to teach them the Oath and Law and by example, show them how to lead full and vibrant lives. We are also grateful to our corporate sponsors and donors, who support them. In Scouting, we also teach young men and young women to be leaders. We encourage children to step up and take responsibility for their own lives and give them the skills and confidence to lead others. As Scouting in Orange County moves on into a new Century, we recognize the important role we can play in helping prepare our county’s young people to face and overcome the challenges before them. While most people avoid obstacles, Scouting teaches young people to face them head-on. Our council, alongside community leaders and Scouting enthusiasts, have been working diligently since early 2019 to ensure the celebrations in 2020 engage the whole Orange County community in our historic celebration.

We look forward to celebrating this historic milestone with you.

OUR PROPERTIES & PROGRAMS Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center This 210-acre outdoor education center, accessible through Irvine Regional Park features half-day through five-day academic and recreational programming. Our hands-on approach to outdoor education allows participants to explore the outdoors while developing creativity, leadership skills and a respect for the environment.

Newport Sea Base Since 1937, the Newport Sea Base has provided fun and valuable educational maritime-based programs to all youth. Year-round, girls and boys learn oceanography, marine biology, environmental science, boating safety, dinghy and keelboat sailing, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, motor boating, and other aquatic-related subjects.

Oso Lake Oso Lake Scout Camp is a volunteer run facility located in Rancho Santa Margarita on the border of Mission Viejo. Easy access from the 241 toll road makes the facility easily accessible to all units. The camp is surrounded by O’Neill Regional Park and features a 100-acre lake, 15 acres of land and is capable of supporting 300 campers.

Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley is the flagship camping facility of the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America. Located near Warner Springs in San Diego County, it is a wilderness camp with 1,400 acres of oak, pine, and chaparral, bordered by the Cleveland National Forest and the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

Cub Scouts – For Youth 5-10 Cub Scouts is an active program for youth, first through fifth grade, that encourages learning, friendship, and most of all fun! Youth learn by doing, and there is no end to the fun things that Cub Scouts do with their families, Cub Scout Packs, and at special events. Camp under the stars. Tie knots. Visit a police station. Shoot a bow and arrow. There is no limit to the fun things your Scout will do.

Scouts BSA – For Youth 11-17 Most youth avoid obstacles. Scouts BSA members seek them. They live for an opportunity to display their abilities while learning new skills. Camping is fun. But surviving a downpour in the middle of the night, that’s an adventure. Cooking over a campfire is fun. Learning which wild berries are edible is survival. Spending a weekend in the woods is fun. Breaking camp without leaving a trace is admirable. These are invaluable experiences that can be had in Scouting. These are life lessons that transform today’s Scouts BSA members into tomorrow’s leaders.

Scoutreach – For Youth 5-20 The Scoutreach Division gives special leadership and emphasis to urban and rural Scouting programs. Scoutreach is the BSA’s commitment to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background.

Venturing – For Youth 14-20 Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Venturing is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth, adult leaders, and organizations in their communities. Local community organizations establish a Venturing crew by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community.

Exploring – For Youth 14-20 Exploring teaches important life and career skills to young people from all backgrounds through immersive career experiences and mentor-ship provided by community and business leaders. Together, we equip young people with character, leadership and life skills that can be used both today and in their future careers. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Businesses and community organizations initiate a career-specific Explorer post or club by matching their people and organizational resources to the career interests of youth in the community.

Sea Scouts – For Youth 14-20 Sea Scouts is a program for youth 14 to 20-years old. The program consists of leadership and character development set in a maritime environment. Each unit is called a ‘ship’ but may or may not, have a vessel. Orange County is home to five Sea Scout ships, which are nationally and internationally acclaimed. In the past decade, local Sea Scouts have won four international sailing championships, two ships were honored as the top program in the nation, and three Sea Scouts were selected as the top youth-leader in the nation.
