Bachelor of Business Administration Degree Overview

A four-year degree that builds future careers. Okanagan College has been granting Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degrees since 1999. Our program is distinctive for its emphasis on offering business courses from the first semester of the first year. Having business courses in each year means students gain sound knowledge and applicable skills they need to be successful in a Canadian or international business environment. Students can enter the BBA degree program in several ways. Consult with an Okanagan College School of Business advisor to find out what works best for you. Our 120 credit degree consists of: • • • •

60 credits (20 courses) of required Business courses 36 credits (12 courses) of Business electives 9 credits (3 courses) of non-Business electives 15 credits (5 courses) of electives that can be Business or non-Business, of which 12 credits must be 300 or 400 level

Finance Specialty The Finance specialty has two distinct paths. One path or set of courses gives students the academic requirements they need to write the qualifying exams for the Certified Financial Planner license. Business Diplomas and Certificates Our two-year diploma offers the same six areas of specialization as the BBA degree and is highly respected by employers. A Business diploma can get you started on your career faster and links directly to the four-year BBA degree when you are ready to take your studies further. The Business Administration Diploma (60 credits) • 60 credits total (20 courses) • 36 credits of required Business courses; 12 credits of option specific electives and 12 credits of Business or non-Business electives

Diploma admission requirements: • • •

B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent. A minimum of 60% in one of English 12, English 12 First Peoples or TPC 12 (Technical and Professional Communications), or an equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education English course. Applicants with a passing grade of less than 60% will be required to write the LPI (Language Proficiency Index) test and obtain a minimum score of level 4. Note Communications 12 is not acceptable. A minimum of 60% in one of Pre-calculus Grade 11, Foundations of Mathematics Grade 11, or Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics Grade 11, or the equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education mathematics course. For students graduating from secondary school in or prior to 2012, please reference the online Okanagan College Calendar for the mathematics admission requirements.

The Business Administration diploma links directly to our BBA degree. Students who achieve a 67% grade point average in a recognized Business Administration diploma program are eligible to continue their studies towards a BBA degree.

Business Certificates Business Studies Certificate Okanagan School of Business six-course certificates are a quick and convenient way to upgrade your skills and increase your business knowledge. Options are available in: • • • • •

Specialty Diplomas Commercial Aviation Diploma The Commercial Aviation Diploma program consists of two distinct and separate areas of study - Flight and Business training. This unique combination of business courses and flight training gives graduates the aviation training required by Transport Canada and the business knowledge essential to succeed in today’s aviation industry. This flight training portion of the program is offered in partnership with Southern Interior Flight Centre, one of Western Canada’s largest and most reputable flight schools. The business portion is completed at Okanagan College and consists of three business courses per semester for a total of 12 courses over two years.

Advanced Culinary Arts Diploma The Advanced Culinary Arts Diploma program addresses the developing Okanagan region trend toward the combination of fine wineries and excellent restaurants. Unique features of the program include food and wine pairing and the combination of food, wine, and business training that reflects regional industry demand. This two-year program features two semesters of academic study along with ten months of practical culinary training. Program graduates receive credit towards their cooking apprenticeship and academic credit for the Business Administration courses completed.

Office Administration Certificates Connect to an office career in under a year. Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate – Corporate/Conveyancing Designed for students with prior office administration experience or training who wish to work for a law firm in the practice of corporate law and/or conveyancing. Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate - Litigation Designed for students with prior office administration experience or training who wish to work as a legal administration assistant for a law firm in the area of litigation. Administrative Assistant Certificate Graduates of this program have advanced administrative assistant skills and are ready to begin careers as office professionals in businesses of all sizes. Administrative Assistant Fundamentals Certificate Graduates of this program have the essential administrative assistant skills required to be successful in the Legal, Medical, and Accounting Assistant programs. Office Assistant Certificate Graduates of this program are ready to begin a career as a receptionist or junior clerk or take further courses in order to specialize as a legal or medical administrative assistant. Accounting Assistant Certificate Graduates of this program are ready to begin careers as accounting assistants for small, medium, and large companies. Medical Administrative Assistant Certificate * Available only online Designed for students with prior office administration experience or training who wish to attain the skills required to work as an assistant in a medical or allied health office.

Try out your future in our Cooperative Education Program The Cooperative Education (Co-op) program gives students the opportunity to experience their future career firsthand. The Co-op program enables diploma students with a minimum of 65% grade point average and degree students with a minimum of 67% grade point average to gain a 4 to 8 month paid position.

Human Resource Management Club
