WHAT TO TIP YOUR VENDORS

M O D E R N G U I D E T O G R AT U I T I E S If there's one gray area in the wedding world, it's paying gratuities. Long-standing etiquette says ones thing and modern trend says another. We say: if you loved your service – show it with a tip. By Meghan Bishop Whether your vendor owns their business or is an hourly employee matters little to us. Gratuity says "I'm so thankful for the extra care you showed to me." and giving shouldn't be determined by who the boss is. It's determined by the quality of service. Here's a list of the vendors you should plan to tip because of their onsite expertise at the end of your very long, very fabulous big day.

WEDDING PLANNER Traditionally, it has been thought that you don't need to give your wedding planner anything for a tip. But, considering they're the one vendor who's done the bulk of the work on your wedding - we say, why not? Did he/she knock your socks off with pulling off your wedding flawlessly? Was there a ton of extra work involved that wasn’t discussed when pricing was set? Whatever the case may be, you can feel comfortable giving between $100 - 10% of their fees in cash or a gift in the same amount to show your gratitutde. TIP: $100-10% of fees PHOTOGRAPHERS & VIDEOGRAPHERS In our opinion, your photographer and videographer will be the most important vendor you choose. Each photographer on the day of your wedding should be tipped $100-200, and second shooters $50-75. TIP: $50-$200 per person CEREMONY MUSICIANS Not sure what to give the string trio that played your wedding march? What about the choir that sang as you did your unity candle? If it was a professional group, 10% of the entire amount charged to be split amongst the musicians. If it’s a civil group or a church group and they didn’t charge, give a donation either to the group or the church–just as you would a religious officiant. TIP: 10% of fee to be split among musicians

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN TIPPING...

RECEPTION MUSICIANS OR DJ Every guest was on the dance floor and your party was non-stop all night! You should tip $2550, per musician. For the DJ - he (or she) is the one person resonsible for the entire flow and energy of your event. We think they deserve a whole lotta love for guaranteeing a good time. MUSICIAN TIP: $25-50 per person DJ TIP: $100-200 OFFICIANT Your dad’s friend is a judge, your neighbor got registered online, your junior high school pastor, or your pastor now that you are an adult has accepted the job of conducting your service– etiquette says no cash should be given. Instead, give a thank you card and a gift card or a donation to the house of worship if affiliated. TIP: A donation and thank you note will due CATERING STAFF This varies depending on the region of the country you are in. In the south, it is appropriate to tip $20 per person to the onsite staff and $50 to the lead catering manager. You can give the manager the amount of money you intend to tip each waitstaff to distribute to them. You can get hard fast numbers of wait staff from the caterer beforehand when giving final head count to the caterer to help you prepare. TIP: $20-50 per person BARTENDER Your bartender will deal with a bunch of guests craziness the evening of your wedding (i.e.

"There is tooooooo much coke in my Jack"). Bartenders who work on a catering staff team make a higher hourly wage than what you'd expect in a restaurant so you can tip them the same as the other catering staff. No need to go above and beyond, unless you really want to. TIP: $20-50 like the other catering event staff DRIVER TIP Your driver will wait outside for 30 mins as you say your goodbyes to your friends and family and make sure that your take-away plate is in the car for your midnight snack before he drives clear across town to your desired place! Proper tip is 15-20% presented after arrival. TIP: 15-20% of fees RENTAL STAFF TIP This one is optional. Rental drop off delivery people sometimes get $20-50 per person depending on how much they are bringing in and having to set up. Most of the time you have a team of 2-4 depending on the size of the order and they will be the last ones out of the space at the end of the night. TIP: $20-50 per person HAIR STYLIST & MAKEUP ARTIST As important pictures are, your hair and makeup professional will help ensure you look the best! Hair and make-up professionals should get 15-20% of the total bill. TIP: 15-20% of services

Some vendors may have gratuity included in their contract–if this is the case, no tip is necessary. Read your contract to be certain. Also, if a vendor does not fulfill what was expected, don’t feel obligated. And if you want to reward a vendor that you didn’t get a chance to see or interact with, don’t underestimate the power of a sincere thank you card with a little token of your appreciation inside. Tipping is something you should be prepared to do (a lot of) on your wedding day. Depending on the caliber of the professionals you hire will determine the amount of tips you should budget for. Terry Smedley is the Owner and Founder of Two Sweets Bake Shop. With over 20 years in the wedding industry, she's the creative force behind all of Two Sweets Bake Shop's event and wedding dessert and candy buffet designs.

Whether you prefer a towering six-tier confection or a simplistic couple's cake, choose the dessert that's best for your day. Should I steer clear of any frostings or finishes if I'm hosting an outdoor reception? If you are having an outdoor reception during the hot months, try to steer clear of buttercreams that contain ingredients that can't take the heat like cream cheese. What's the key to making a naked-style cake wedding worthy? Most people who select naked cakes do so not because of the look of the cake (although most do love the simplicity), but because they aren't a fan of frosting. They love that they can have more cake, less frosting and with the addition of floral or some decorative elements,​have a beautiful cake that tastes good. My future husband and I aren't really fans of cake in the first place... do we still need to have one? What are my other options? Oh heavens no, there are no hard and fast rules that you even have to have a wedding cake! Dessert buffets are super hot right now. They are a fabulous alternative to cake or to supplement cake for your guests. We do a lot of buffets where the clients will ask us to create a small 6" cutting cake and put it on the buffet with the other desserts. The benefit of a dessert buffet is that your guests get a variety of choices for their desserts, and ours come designed to coordinate with your reception.

What information should I have handy on our cake consultations? Do your homework! Before you book a consultation, ensure the company provides the type of cake you are looking for. We specialize in old fashioned cakes and naked cakes, yet we get requests all the time for designs we just don't do. Be prepared to leave a photo of your inspiration cake with the baker. Cake toppers... are they a thing of the past? Cake toppers are making a comeback, but not too often are we seeing the traditional bride and groom. More often we are seeing custom laser cut toppers that express the sentiments of the couple, such as "To the Moon and Back" or "Mr. & Mrs." At our daughter's wedding the gold cake topper was

placed above the sugar flowers on the top tier and it was stunning! I love the look of real flowers on a cake–are they really safe to include on there? Many flowers are in fact edible - check with your florist to ensure that whatever they are providing for your cake is safe and organic. Editor's note: While all flowers are a treat to see, some ought to come with a warning label. The most common poisonous wedding flowers include: lily of the valley, hydrangeas, stargazer lilies, angels trumpet, oleander and delphinium. If your preferred florals appear on this list, fret not. Consider adding faux tiers to the cake. These tiers blend with the design of the rest of the cake, often covered in identical fondant or completely in flowers.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT VIDEOGRAPHER

Withers Films creates unique hand-crafted wedding films that are emotional, entertaining, and a faithful representation of your special day. Stephen has an eye trained in cinematography and the mind of an editor, capturing the right angles at the right times, all the while staying mindful of the big picture.

Go beyond the photo album and relive your day for years to come. How do you handle lighting situations–will there be an obtrusive bright light or will we use natural lighting? Staying out of the way while still getting the best shot is our priority. We use available light, especially during preparation, the ceremony, etc. For receptions, especially the toasts & speeches, we may place a small light out of the way on a stand to balance the venue's lighting, or to provide a little fill. What's the difference between a highlight reel and a documentary style video? We create handcrafted short films that are usually 7-10 minutes long–many call these highlight films as they feature the best moments from the day. We build a narrative using visuals, your vows and speeches to create a unique film that is both emotional and entertaining, but also a faithful representation of the day. We also do full-length films, or documentary style films, that are a more linear depiction of the events and show more coverage from preparation to dancing and show the vows and speeches in full. If we want our vows recorded and included in the film, do we have to get outfitted with microphones before the ceremony? Capturing clean sound for the vows is important – we usually place a small, unobtrusive lavaliere on either the groom or the officiant. For the reception, we typically coordinate with the band or DJ to capture a clean feed from their PA system so the speeches are crystal clear! How do you work with the photographer–will you both be able to capture those moments without getting in each others' ways (and shots!)? Usually your photographer will have a certain way they want to shoot things, whether it be the schedule for preparation details or just positioning you in the proper light during portraits. In these situations, we are very flexible and follow their lead. Our goal is to stay out of the way and communicate with them when it's necessary for us to jump in for a shot. There should never be a time when you have to choose between photos or video coverage. How far in advance should we book the videographer? Francesca Cooper is the owner and lead coordinator of The Eventful Gals in St. Augustine, FL, founded in 2013. She seeks to create personalized, meaningful events while maintaining an approachable, friendship-like planner-client relationship.

Imagine. After weeks of Instagram stalking, web trolling and review reading you’ve done it – you’ve found the perfect vendor for your wedding day. With a shiny rock on your left hand and new wedding planning notebook in your bag, you walk into your initial consultation meeting and surprise! You’re greeted by the vendor of your dreams with a round pregnant belly. Panic sets in – what if your wedding and her apparent due date are too close for comfort. What do you do? Pregnancy doesn’t impact creative talent. Photographers don’t lose their creative eye, planners don’t lose their knack for organization, florists don’t suddenly forget how to arrange centerpieces. These women are good at their jobs, don’t undermine their skills! Of course, a bigger belly can require a bit of extra creative planning in later trimesters, but leave that worrying to the pros. Business doesn’t halt after a positive pregnancy test result. “Your vendor doesn’t want her pregnancy to take any attention from your wedding, so she won’t talk about it at all unless asked,” says Cooper. A vendor’s professional entity and personal identity are two different spheres of her life – allow her that separation. Your wedding vendors are all there to help you plan the day of your dreams. The newly-pregnant professional took on this job in the same mindset as a non-pregnant business woman. She views her brides as clients with needs meant to be upheld. “Your vendor isn’t overwhelmed by your wedding. She wants to be a part of the planning – it’s her job!” If she chooses to divulge information about her pregnancy, it’s appropriate to discuss the ‘Plan B.’

There is always a 'Plan B' in the midst of a “worst case scenario.” Weddings are planned far in advance, often long enough to see the full cycle of a pregnancy! Planners have teams of trained professionals, photographers have talented fell0w-photographer friends, florists are friendly with other town flower shops – all of whom are perfectly capable of making your dreams a reality. “There is an execution plan from the moment a wedding planner finds out about her new baby to be about her events leading up to delivery and right after,” says Cooper. If the vendor cancels on you, you’ll probably get

your deposit back. Of course every vendor contract is different and requires thoughtful consideration, but it’s pretty standard procedure to return cash when it’s appropriate. A deposit secures a vendor’s time, so if they can’t give you that, it only makes sense that they should return the funds. Read your contracts before signing and stay informed. More often than not, these professionals are passionate women who care deeply about their clients as well as their business. To a committed business owner, a bride is more than just a paycheck. Wedding business pros often give up their weeknights, weekends and holidays to cater to the needs of their brides – in short, they’re dedicated. Oftentimes, the line between work life and personal life of a wedding pro can blur for brides.

Not to mention the budget! In the southeast, the options for brides are limitless. From country clubs to hotels, city clubs, oceanfront resorts, farms, barns, antebellum homes, private mansions and everything in between... a girl's got options. So, we've scoured the top cities to bring you the very best venues to select from.

QUESTIONS TO ASK A POTENTIAL VENUE . . . HOW MANY HOURS DOES MY RENTAL FEE INCLUDE? ARE THERE OVERTIME CHARGES? Some venues charge by the hour for use of their facility. Knowing exactly how many hours are included, and allotting plenty of time for set up and tear down is important.

HOW DO YOU CHARGE? PER PERSON, BY THE HOUR OR FL AT FEE? Always good to know how your venue charges for rental. It's likely that facilities who include catering will charge a per person rate and venues without catering will charge a flat fee or hourly rental.

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN VENDORS OR DO I HAVE TO USE A PREFERRED VENDOR LIST SUPPLIED BY THE VENUE? Many venues will supply you with a list of their preferred wedding vendors to use. This can be helpful to the bride who needs direction and referrals but also a hinderance for brides who know exactly which vendors they'd like to use. Clarify with your venue whether it's required or not to use their specified vendors before you book.

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN ALCOHOL? Venues that don't carry their own liquor license often allow brides to bring in their own alcohol. This is not typically the norm, but there are a few venues out there with this option. Remember, if you do opt to bring in your own alcohol, you'll want to hire a bar service to tend to guests.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL THE SPACE HOLD (NOT JUST OFFICIAL CAPACIT Y) ACCORDING TO MY ROOM SET UP? Your room set up will greatly affect the amount of guests you can have at your wedding. Official capacities are for the fire marshal. You'll want to focus on how many guests you can fit into the room with a seated dinner, estate table, dance floor or buffet set up.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE VENUE RENTAL? Most venues have house items that are included in the cost of their facility rental like dancefloors, tables, chairs, standard linens, etc. But, there are several venues that don't offer this and could amount to an additional cost to you. Ask before you book.

WHAT IS THE PARKING SITUATION? Valet parking, limited options, street parking or ample complimentary parking for guests are all important things to consider.

WILL THERE BE OTHER WEDDINGS HAPPENING ON THE SAME DAY? Depending on the size of the venue, it will be nice to know whether your event will be the only event happening on property or if there will be others. Other events may infringe on your time use of the venue or confusion for guests so best to know ahead of time and be prepared.

IF NOT, IS THERE AN ALCOHOL MINIMUM? Often venues with liquor licenses will have a bar minimum in addition to the cost of their venue rental. Best to have a heads up about this before you book for budgeting.

Exactly four years from the day they met, Ashley and Rob set to wed in an intimate outdoor ceremony at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. With the help of Melissa Bloomfield and the team at Pretty Swell Parties, the day went off without a hitch. The bride and groom shared a sweet first look beneath a shady magnolia tree before saying 'I do.' To further the venue's secret garden atmosphere, floral designer Juli Vaughn adorned the CRUSH Event Rentals ceremony arbor with colorful arrangements of garden roses, grapevine, Jasmine and smilax vines. Surrounded by 120 of their closest friends and family members under the warm summertime Georgia sunshine, the two exchanged sentiments. The guests enjoyed an outdoor cocktail hour where miniature versions of favorites like New England crab cakes and mushroom and gruyere crostini catered by Sun in My Belly. Inside, tree branches strung with silk ribbons and scripted escort cards directed guests to their dinner tables where collected antiques and comfortable seating awaited. When Quebec natives Alfee and Geoffery envisioned their wedding day, it was all about celebrating with their friends and family. With guidance from Mindy Weiss and Kristen Daniel of the Mindy Weiss Party Consultants team, the duo hosted their 138 guests in South Beach. To kick off their destination nuptials the couple invited guests to attend a Mexican-themed rooftop welcome dinner, complete with margaritas and tacos. The next day, after relaxing on the beach and spending time with their loved ones who traveled so far for the day, Alfee and Geoffery split ways to prepare for their evening ceremony. The couple met in the late afternoon to share a first look, the bride in a custom Ines Di Santo fitted lace gown and the groom in a classic black Gucci tuxedo. While guests enjoyed a pre-ceremony cocktail hour, the bride and groom, along with their parents, sat with the officiant for a traditional ketubah signing. The couple exchanged vows beneath a secret garden-inspired chuppah, designed by Jose Graterol Designs. To celebrate their union, the bride and groom surprised guests with a gospel choir performance as they walked hand in hand down the aisle. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a sit-down meal, lit by the glow of candlelight and strung edison bulbs. Late night bites fueled the high-energy dance party led by Montreal DJ Fafa Khan that stretched late into the night.

When it came time for Adrianne and Matthew to plan their wedding, they knew to tie the knot in Athens, GA – their alma mater's hometown. The romantic springtime affair began with an outdoor ceremony in front of a boxwood garden. The couple united as Mr. and Mrs. under a floral arbor adorned with peonies, roses, elaeagnus, and olive branches arranged by Flowers by Posy. Adrianne accessorized her Hayley Paige dress with her mother’s diamond sapphire bracelet–something both borrowed and blue. Following the nuptials, the Taylor Grady House opened its doors for an evening cocktail hour. Guests sat beneath a white tent adorned with two gold chandeliers and laced with lighting for libations and dinner. Epting Events catered a southern-inspired menu, including traditional dishes like fried green tomatoes and chicken pot pie. The couple cut into their three tier red velvet buttercream cake, surrounded by the groom's choice of delicious cheesecakes from the couple's favorite restaurant. Classics and hits from today kept the party alive on dance floor, from energetic band Flavor. As a special gift, the bride’s brother took the stage and performed the father-daughter dance tune. The newlyweds steered away into their happily-every-after in a classic white 1964 Austin Princess, concluding their quintessential Southern jubilee.

Spring was in the air at Joanna and Adam’s rustic ranch wedding at Cross Creek Ranch in Dover, FL. As a nod to Adam’s Coast Guard career, the couple incorporated playful twists of nautical decor into the day. Joanna’s princessstyle Allure ballgown made her wedding day fairytale dreams come true. Before walking Joanna down the aisle, the father of the bride escorted her older sister and bridesmaid in the processional–an honor he was unable to fulfill due to illness during her wedding months prior. After a tear-jerking and memorable entrance, the bride and groom exchanged vows and tied the knot, a nautical nod on the Celtic tradition. Following the traditional ceremony in the elegant chapel on the ranch, guests shuffled to the cocktail area outside the barn to sip on cocktails and play cornhole, horseshoes, croquet, and life-size jenga. Family and friends feasted on southern classics like pulled pork, chicken, and cole slaw catered by Hungry Harry’s Bar-B-Que. On top of the three tier nautical striped cake baked by Alessi Bakery stood a custom wedding topper, designed to replicate details matching the groom’s uniform. Guests were later invited to join the bonfire and roast marshmallows. The rest of the night was spent with guests celebrating in dance to music with DJ Grant Hemond & Associates.

When Megan and William got engaged, they knew exactly who they'd turn to for a spectacular wedding day – the bride's sister Cassandra Cherneski of Flaire Weddings and Events. Per the bride's request, Megan and William met on a secluded downtown block of The Oldest City for a sentimental first look. Megan, veiled in a lace mantilla and blusher, walked arm in arm with her father down the aisle of Ancient City Baptist Church. After the couple exchanged vows, guests enjoyed refreshing popsicles from a Hyppo Gourmet Ice Pops cart outside the church. Together with their wedding party, Megan and William boarded the city's iconic carousel for a bit of wedding day revelry before venturing to Crosswater Hall at Nocatee. The bride and groom, avid board game enthusiasts, chose to host a morning affair, complete with a game lounge. Scripted escort cards embellished with miniature board game characters led guests to their seats. Guests enjoyed an array of inventive breakfast and lunch options thanks to D'Vine Cuisine. After foregoing the traditional receiving line, the newlyweds opted to continue in the theme of the day to interact with each one of their 110 guests in a round of the couples' favorite game during their afternoon reception. The newlyweds cut into their three level, game piece decorated confection by Classic Cakes before departing beneath a sea of bubbles.

Warm Florida springtime sunshine blessed Camilla and Andrew's afternoon nuptials at The Club at the Strand. Thanks to its grand staircases, vast outdoor ceremony space and expansive reception area, the club was the couple's natural choice. When it came time to plan their big day, the soon to be Mr. and Mrs. chose to enlist the help of Isn't She Lovely Florals to transform the space into magical garden party. The bride accesorized her lace illusion neckline Allure gown with a bouquet of garden roses, ranunculus and greenery wrapped in a classic ivory ribbon. After a morning of relaxation and pampering Camilla met Andrew for a memorable first look. Arm in arm with her father, the bride processed down the grand staircase to her groom, who stood benath a hanging arrangement of greenery and garden roses. The two exchanged personalized vows during their traditional Christian ceremony. The newlyweds invited guests to eat, drink, dance and celebrate at their outdoor reception. As a nod to their northern European roots, the couple gifted their guests with a traditional Danish wedding cake, "Kransekage," a layered confection of marzipan drizzled with frosting and chocolate, created by Mikkelsen’s Bakery. Classic southern elegance flowed through every moment of Marianna and Sam’s timeless Georgia wedding day. With floral and event designer Karin Jeffcoat of Cote Designs’ refined eye for color and style, the couple wowed guests with an impeccable day. The bride, wearing an Allure gown purchased at Elegant Bridals in Augusta, GA, walked arm in arm with her father down the aisle of Athens First United Methodist Church. After exchanging traditional vows in the presence of 150 of their closest friends and family members, the newlyweds invited their guests to join them in celebrating at the stylish Graduate Athens, a mid-century modern style hotel with a vast brick-walled event space. During the cocktail hour, guests sipped custom concoctions crafted at the specialty prosecco bar. Inside the reception, feasting tables adorned with vintage china and dusty blue silk runners awaited. Fueled by a unique "biscuit bar," complete with savory and sweet spreads as per the father of the bride’s request, the newlyweds showed off their choreography to the tune of “For Once in My Life” performed by Momentum Party Band before inviting their guests onto the dance floor. Cecilia Villaveces Cakes baked a classic two tier Italian Cream Cake for the couple and a lemon confection to satisfy everyone’s late night sweet tooth.

Looking to kick off their new life together in celebratory style, Venessa and Scott invited their friends and family to join them for a New Year’s Eve party like none other – their very own wedding day. The bride and groom shared a first look in the afternoon, before guests made their arrival, before separating again for their evening ceremony. The two said 'I do' in a candlelit ceremony in the Buckingham Farm’s Rustic Barn, an open venue complete with a stacked stone wall in the ceremony space. While their guests enjoyed cocktails and miniature versions of their favorite foods, the bride and groom met with their twins, Chelsea and Ellis, for sweet family portraits. Guests, all in formal black tie attire, found their seats thanks to a garland-adorned seating chart created by event and floral designer Hollie Raulerson of Elleson Events. Tables, numbered with festive magnum bottles of champagne, made a statement thanks to alternating sequined and striped linens from La Tavola Linen. The couple was all smiles as they took the floor for their first dance before DJ Dayve got all the guests in the party mood. An interactive cocktail bar, complete with themed concoctions and classic favorites, was a hit with the guests. As the clock struck midnight, guests met the new year with a celebratory showering of the new Mr. and Mrs. in champagne.

When it came time for Natalie and Matthew to plan their destination wedding, the couple knew just the place – Savannah, GA. The lifelong southerners enlisted the help of Ashle’ King, planner at Dreams Become Reality Events, to find the perfect venue for the day. After visiting several spots around the historic town, the couple ultimately decided to say ‘I do’ at the city’s most iconic venue – the fountain at Forsyth Park. 140 guests stood as Natalie made her grand entrance with her father in the vintage, floral-adorned wedding carriage from Historic Savannah Carriages. Natalie, in a fitted pearl-trimmed wedding dress from Modeca Europe, clutched a round, pastel bouquet of anemones, garden roses, carnations and ranunculus by the floral designers at A to Zinnias. After exchanging sentiments, the newlyweds made their way to Savannah Station for a sweet southern celebration. Filled with touches found only below the Mason-Dixon, the couples’ reception featured personalized bourbon escort card favors, individual peach cobblers and even a viewing area for the evening’s coinciding event–college football. The party included various southern cuisine favorites catered by Savannah Event Catering and a four-tier ruffled buttercream confection from Cake it Away. Jamie from All About You Entertainment made the dance floor the place to be.

Samantha and Charlie’s autumn nuptials took place in the heart of Atlanta, GA. The Georgian Ballroom at the Biltmore was a perfect venue for the bride’s royal wedding day vision. The crystal chandeliers, plaster relief ceilings, and queenly ambiance complimented the luxurious interior purple decor styled by EllyB Events. Following their romantic first look, a traditional Christian ceremony took place in front of 150 of their closest friends and family members.. Loved ones cheered as the couple completed a jumping of the broom. The newlyweds invited their guests to a cocktail hour with an open bar and array of passed hors d’oeuvres. Modern asymmetrical floral arrangements of garden roses, vanda orchids, and calla lilies from Perfect Creations & Designs adorned the noble reception space. During dinner hour, Bold American Events & Catering set up signature themed stations including "Brazilian Steakhouse," "Taste of Italy," and "Southern Samplings," each boasting options of themed fare. Nostalgia filled the dance floor while the couple swayed to a melody from their first concert together. DJ6five transformed the ballroom floor into a nightclub feel with popular tunes and Atlanta favorites. Emily and Zach’s elegant rural wedding encompassed southern charm and tradition. The rustic landscape and barn of Deep South Farm offered the perfect venue for the couple’s outdoor celebration in Ellijay, GA, where the couple first met. Warm August sun shone delicately through the tall North Georgia trees as the couple shared an intimate first look before saying ‘I do.’ Emily wore a stunning strapless lace gown purchased from Carrie’s Bridal Collection and clutched a bouquet of flowing eucalyptus, ranunculus and astilbe, fashioned by Deep South Designs. Preceded by bridesmaids in mint frocks, the bride processed down the aisle towards her gray suit clad groom waiting in front of a floral-adorned wooden cross by the lakeside. After a Christian ceremony complete with personal vows, communion and private prayer, the newlyweds invited guests to the venue’s covered barn to enjoy a cocktail hour. Elegant black lanterns, antique details, and floral arrangements of soft peach and ivory blooms bedecked the wooden tables of the reception. The southern summer traditions continued as Williamson Bros cooked up delicious barbeque followed by an assortment of exquisitely crafted cakes in the bride’s favorite flavors. MSA Entertainment kept the atmosphere light and fun with catchy songs that had guests dancing and laughing until the newlyweds made their grand exit through a tunnel of sparklers.

Since they first met, Kristen and Nathan made a point to venture south to Florida, making the tropical Sarasota setting a perfect destination for their wedding day. The Cà d’Zan Mansion offered opulent structure, grounds and decor, perfect for the couples' big day. The bride clutched an asymmetrical hand tied bouquet of vibrant peonies and greenery arranged by MMD Events. Shortly before their ceremony, the bride and groom shared a first look. The couple exchanged 'I do’s' surrounded by iconic banyan trees dripped with glamorous orchids and carnations. Guests enjoyed a cocktail hour full of inventive passed hors d'oeuvres and signature sippers. Nicole Kaney of NK Productions transformed the terrace into a glamorous reception space complete with stylish bar installations and glamorous floral displays. Custom calligraphed geode stones directed guests to their seats, where mirrored chargers and golden flatware awaited. Custom printed menus listed the array of dishes prepared by Fête Catering. To honor Kristen’s beloved grandmother, a collector of antique elephants, a tiny gold elephant figurine hid on the side of the five tier cake baked by The Cake Zone. Guests danced and sang alongside the lively band, ATL Groove Factory, before sending away the newlyweds with a bubble-filled goodbye.

ABOUT OUR WEDDING My husband Jeff and I were married in October—my favorite month—at the Alabama Theater, a beautiful and historic theater in Downtown Birmingham. I designed and wore four different dresses at my wedding because, why not?! At our reception, I had my second dance with my mother to "Sweet Child O’ Mine" by Guns N’ Rose, which was so special, and we had a masquerade themed party to get everyone really having a good time. BEST WEDDING PL ANNING ADVICE I always tell brides to look for dresses with a small group, maybe just their mother, grandmother or a close friends. A big group can be distracting and really take away from the experience. I also tell brides to enjoy the moment—don’t get too worked up about all the details, just be excited about starting a life with your best friend. WORDS OF WISDOM FOR A HAPPY MARRIAGE My advice for couples is simple: always date, be kind to one another, and always place God at the center of your marriage. If you follow those rules, you will have the keys for a successful marriage.
