Oxy Arts Open House Take a short stroll off-campus to explore the brand-new Oxy Arts center on York Boulevard. 11 a.m. – Noon
Veterans’ Housing Open House Recognizing their unique needs, Oxy received funding from The Ahmanson Foundation to purchase and renovate housing exclusively for student veterans. Join us to tour the properties and learn more about our plans to build out the Veterans Program.

Join us as we celebrate the completion of Oxy’s new pool and tennis facilities. The dedications will begin at the De Mandel Aquatics Center followed immediately by the dedication of the McKinnon Family Tennis Center taking place on the Robinson Family Terrace. 4:30 p.m.
Music on a Friday Afternoon Enjoy an informal, free recital by some of Oxy’s accomplished student musicians.
As part of Oxy’s “Your Student’s in College... Now What” series, this session is specifically designed for families of sophomores who may have different questions now that they’ve been at Oxy for a year. 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Fiji Hill Sunset Hike Hike to Fiji Hill where you can enjoy a 360-degree vista of Los Angeles. This is a moderate hike: short distance but steep incline. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

TIGERS DISCOVERING L.A. On Friday afternoon and evening, parents, students, and alumni can enjoy outings to some of L.A.’s best cultural and entertainment landmarks. Each excursion will have student guides to lead the way and charter bus transportation will be provided. No-host dining options will be available at each location. Advance registration required. Space is limited.
NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory Friday, 12:15 p.m. – 4 p.m. JPL is the leading U.S. center for robotic exploration of the solar system, carrying out planetary, Earth science and spacebased astronomy missions. This unique tour will give you exciting access to one of NASA’s key facilities. $25 per person.
Norton Simon Friday, 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The Norton Simon Museum is home to one of the West Coast’s most priceless, varied and extensive art collections. Enjoy the special exhibition, By Day & Night: Paris in the Belle Époque, or the Norton Simon’s incredible permanent collection. $25 per person.
L.A. Philharmonic at Disney Hall Friday 5 p.m. – 11 p.m. In the heart of downtown Los Angeles Walt Disney Concert Hall is an unrivaled venue for classical music. Esa-Pekka Salonen will conduct his latest orchestral work, followed by 18-year old rising star violinist Daniel Lozakovich, hand-picked by Salonen to play Tchaikovsky. Salonen and the LA Phil will also perform one of their signature works, a late masterpiece by Bartók which shows off every section of the orchestra to full advantage. $75 per person.
An Evening at Pasadena Playhouse & The Playhouse District Friday 5 p.m. –10:30 p.m. The Playhouse District is an eclectic neighborhood that spawned around the Pasadena Playhouse in the 1920s. Today, the area is the entertainment hub of Pasadena. Enjoy one of the area’s restaurants before attending the Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors at the historic Pasadena Playhouse. $45 per person.
Griffith Observatory Friday 6:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Enjoy a fun outing to one of L.A.’s most famous locales, the Griffith Observatory in Griffith Park. Visitors can look through telescopes, explore exhibits, and enjoy spectacular views of Los Angeles. We’ll cap off the evening by attending the 8:45 p.m. showing of Centered in the Universe in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium. This viewing uses state-of-the-art, all-dome planetarium technologies to weave a story that transports and educates audiences with a live narrator. $20 per person.

Rustle and Cry On Friday and Saturday evenings, view this site-specific video art installation by Hana S. Kim projected onto the facades of the Fowler-Johnson buildings. This installation is part of Occidental’s The Ettinger Projected Poetry and Art Project.

FEATURED EVENTS Celebrating Oxy Athletics: Past, Present and Future Please join our new Athletic Director Shanda Ness and the Tiger Club as we celebrate the past, present, and future of Oxy Athletics. On Friday, students, alumni and generous supporters will gather to dedicate the new De Mandel Aquatics Center, Robinson Family Terrace and McKinnon Family Tennis Center, and toast to the success of future aquatic and tennis teams. We will then honor the past with the 7th Occidental Athletics Hall of Fame, and celebrate the new class of outstanding athletes: the 1954 Baseball team, the late Ninja Jorgensen ’61 (Volleyball), Ron Whitney ’64 (Track), Olin Browne ’81 (Golf), and Jackie Provost ’02 (Women’s Water Polo). On Saturday, come out and cheer for the Tigers of today at Women’s Volleyball, Men’s Soccer, and Football Homecoming games.

Keynote address: “Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde ’77 Has Something To Say” Occidental College alumnus and Disney Imagineering Creative Executive Joe Rohde makes the impossible possible. Hear how this legendary designer of Disney’s renowned theme park attractions, like Animal Kingdom and Pandora: The World of Avatar, attributes the development of his creative voice to his Oxy education, and get an inside look at his process to make imaginary worlds a reality.
