Assisting the ASP with The Oakley World Junior Championships from 2008 to 2010
The ASC started as the Indonesian Surfing Championships (ISC) in 2004 with the goal of linking the existing surf brand events in Bali into a circuit with a points system and a year-end champion, modeled after the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Qualifying Series tour. From 2004 to 2010, the ISC sanctioned from 8 to 24 events per year and assisted the ASP (now WSL) in the return of a World Championship Tour event to Indonesia with the Rip Curl Search event at Uluwatu (2008). From 2008, the ISC (then later the ASC) worked with Surfing Australia and the ASP in Bali-based events such as the Billabong Pro Junior Series, the Oakley World Pro Junior Championships, and in 2013 the Oakley Bali Pro World Championship Tour stop in Keramas. Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia supported the ISC from mid way through 2008 until 2013 as part of their CSR effort in Bali called Coca-Cola for Bali, which consisted of sponsoring the ISC, cleaning up Bali’s beaches, and empowering the local community by supporting its customers and stakeholders. The Coca-Cola ISC tour soon became known as “the Real Dream Tour” of surfing world-wide for its perfect waves and great contest locations, not only in Bali but all around Indonesia. In addition, the Coca-Cola ISC Tour was lauded by the Climate Wave organization for having the most “green” surfing tour on the planet, significantly reducing its carbon footprint by using natural materials, recycling, planting trees and doing beach cleanings at its surfing competitions.

Co-sanctioning events with the ASP (now WSL): The Taiwan Open of Surfing since 2013 The Siargao International Surfing Cup in the Philippines
In 2010, primarily in response to requests for assistance and support by other Asian countries including Malaysia, Thailand, India, the Philippines, the Maldives, and Taiwan, the ASC tour was formed. Through the support and sanctioning of these events and sustaining a reliable and consistent Asian surfing circuit, Asian surfing champions were crowned each year in Men’s, Women’s, and Junior divisions thorough 2016. As the ASC tour gained popularity and recognition, it began to initiate the co-sanctioning of their events with the ASP (now WSL), starting with the Taiwan Open of Surfing in 2013, then the Siargao International Surfing Cup in the Philippines, and in Indonesia with the Komune Bali Pro, the Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge, and the Mentawai Pro Qualifying Series events in 2016.

Why the Asian Surf Co ?
Our Mission
In 2017 the World Surf League (WSL) formed the new WSL Asia Region, which led to the decision by the ASC to convert all their existing and any potential new events into WSL Qualifying Series (QS) events. Since the inception of the ISC, the primary goal of was to create a pathway for Asian surfers where they could compete against each other and then against other surfers from around the globe, in their own region, in some of the best waves in the world. The ISC to ASC to WSL progression aligned perfectly with that goal.
The Asian Surf Cooperative provides event management, live scoring, ISA certified judges, contest directors, digital photography and videography, event media packages, rankings, media coverage and distribution, and also assists the ISA in organizing Surf and SUP Instructor and International Judging courses.
With the formation of the WSL Asia Region, and the longstanding mutually beneficial relationship between the WSL and the ASC, there was no longer a need to continue with an ASC tour with separate events and ASC champions crowned each year, thus necessitating the name change to the Asian Surf Cooperative in order to more accurately describe the change to the organization.
From local grassroots boardriders and grommet (junior) events to specialty and WCT events, the ASC’s purpose and goal remains the same: To grow the sport of surfing in the Asian region by offering reliable and consistent resources and assistance to both small and large organizations who are helping to make Asia’s surfing athlete’s dreams come true.
