he Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade is a tradition for the community of Newport Beach that is not to be missed. Parade watchers line the harbor and crowd docks to watch the famous parade as it goes by. The parade is also a tradition for Alexander Marine. As a company, we always try to either host an event, take a boat out, or celebrate the parade in some way. This year we decided to take a different approach. For the first year, Alexander Marine entered our inventory boat, the Ocean Alexander 70e into the parade.
We collaborated with our great event production company Code Four to get it all done. Their team worked hours and hours to get the boat ready for the judges. We are proud to say that with the help of Code Four, we are taking home two awards! The 70e won “First Place Best Lights” as well as “Best First Time Entry”! We will definintely be continuing this tradition with the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade.

C
arol Lee, (formally named, Carol C. Lee) is a very well known Ocean Alexander owner, event planner, active volunteer, and the list could go on. Carol Lee joined the Ocean Alexander family with her first boat purchase in January of 1989 at a time when it was extremely rare for a woman to be the sole owner/operator of a power boat, especially one as large as Carol Lee’s 40-foot 1983 Ocean Alexander double-cabin. Marianne Scott, author of “Ocean Alexander, The First 25 Years” writes, “In those days, before networks promoted sailing and cruising for women, it was not always easy for her to be at the helm. But Carol was feisty and conquered the intricacies of skippering a substantial boat. To boot, she overcame tradition by persuading her local Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club that every yacht owner should be allowed to join-not just men.” Carol Lee became the first woman member of the Meydenbauer Bay Yacht Club in 1989. Carol Lee was first introduced to the Ocean Alexander Rendezvous after seeing an ad in a magazine for the event held in Port Ludlow, Washington. Carol Lee attended the Rendezvous that year and loved the idea of meeting fellow boaters, attending events, and keeping the history alive. She arranged the following year’s rendezvous, leading her to eventually start the “Ocean Alexander Cruising Club”, which was independent from Ocean Alexander and managed on a volunteer basis. Carol Lee updated and maintained an Ocean Alexander owners database, sent out quarterly newsletters (24 of them to be exact), planned Rendezvous events all over the United States including Washington, Florida, Wisconsin, and California. The owners database included more than names and boat
information. She collected every piece of information on each boat that she could. Everything from hull numbers to construction dates, to the history of ownership was all recorded. This list eventually grew to have information for over 900 owners and their vessels. “Miss OA”, as she has often been designated, has been a vital resource for Ocean Alexander owners and salesman alike and has been contacted by owners from all over the world, even from as far away as New Zealand. After Ocean Alexander took over the responsibility of the planning the annual rendezvous, Carol Lee started the Mark I rendezvous to honor that particular model. The Mark I rendezvous is an ongoing event that still takes place today, having had as many as 15 Mark I models at a single event. Although Carol Lee has taken a step back from her rendezvous planning and database maintaining days, she is still a very active member of the Ocean Alexander family. She continues to attend the Mark I rendezvous and gets to the Ocean Alexander rendezvous when she can. She is an active Seafair volunteer, president of her HOA, and a volunteer at the Village Theater in Issaquah. She keeps busy by helping her friends whenever she can, including as a deckhand on a boat, referring to herself as a “jack of all trades, master of none”.

2016 Salesman Awards & Annual Meeting
E
very January all Alexander Marine staff members convene at the South Lake Union office in Seattle for the annual sales meeting. The sales meeting lasts two days and consists of a yearly sales review, guest speakers, projections and strategies for the next year, and more. This year a representative from Imtra as well as a representative from Volvo came to talk about their products and the benefits in the various models we carry. At the culmination of the sales meeting we host our annual holiday party where awards are given in three categories: “Yacht Consultant of the Year”, “Top New Sales”, and “Top Brokerage Sales”. It was quite a close contest for each category but the winners were: Michael Vrbas (Yacht Consultant of the Year), JR Wills (Top New Sales), and Jerry Todd (Top Brokerage Sales). 2016 was the most successful year to date for Alexander Marine and we are grateful for our fantastic and ambitious staff for leading us to where we are today. Alexander Marine is looking forward to an even bigger and better 2017!

he Ocean Alexander 70e, built at the new Merritt Island, Florida factory has been viewed as a slight departure from the traditional Ocean Alexander models. “The 70e is an example of the evolution within the Ocean Alexander product line. It’s an evolution in our design, in the engineering, how it’s built, as well as where it’s being built,” explains Richard Allender,Director of US Operations. “We looked at the entire industry and decided there was a need to build a product uniquely suited for a specific market.” Alexander Marine’s West Coast offices have currently sold five boats with more orders to come. Hull number two from this popular series is currently available at the Alexander Marine Newport Beach location. For more information, please contact us.
