A new survey by the National Association of Realtor found that a majority of renters say homeownership is one of their highest priorities for the future and they are thinking more about purchasing a home now than in past years. Reported in the blog on www.coastalrealtors.org by Sheila Dodson, executive director of the Coastal Association of Realtors the ssurvey also found that Americans overwhelmingly believe owning a home is a good financial decision. “Renters are increasingly recognizing the benefits of homeownership,” Dodson said. “In addition to its many social benefits, such as providing a stable, safe environment, the financial benefits of owning a home are even more apparent to renters now. “In many parts of the state it is actually cheaper to own a home than it is to rent and the selection of homes to choose from is greater. “Homeownership also is one of the best ways to build financial security over the long term. July data show home sales still gaining in Worcester Sales of residential properties in Worcester continued to trend upward this summer, with data compiled for July showing a significant increase over the same month last year. According to statistics reported by the Coastal Association of Realtors, total sales, which includes condominiums and single-family residences, increased by 20 percent over July 12. This continues a year-long rise in sales activity, which through the past seven months is up 11 percent over 2012. The average price also climbed somewhat, reflecting increasing demand, shrinking inventory and greater consumer confidence in the market. What is happening in Worcester is being mirrored throughout the state, with the Maryland Association of Real-

tors reporting similar sales growth in most counties . Average and median prices also continue to increase at a healthy rate. Average price rose 4.7 percent, more than $15,000, from July 2012 to July 2013. Median price jumped more than 9.5 percent in the same period. “July numbers continue the adjustments we saw in June for average and median price adjustments in several counties across the state, “said MAR President Carlton Boujai. “The lack of inventory is clearly affecting buyers’ choices,� he said, citing statewide inventory of only four months in July, compared to 5.3 months last year. Six months of inventory is regarded as the amount necessary to support a robust market.
