FALL’S HUGE

sleek edgy style

HAIR TRENDS The catwalks & our favorite celebs have spoken and we’ve taken note

From retro pixies to luxurious layers, we have the hottest hair trends and expert tips for you to get the look.

The Trend: The Pixie

Who’s Rocking It: Charlize Theron

Edgy Favorites: This ultra-cropped look requires a strong yet feminine face to combat the boyishness of the cut. And these familiar faces effortlessly command the abovethe-ears-do, exuding an adorably sexy allure.

Get the Look: Keep in mind, the pixie works best with straight hair and smaller facial features. Have your stylist use a razor to create

a more fluid neckline. Keep the pixie texturized and slightly messy to keep it modern. Use products that give enough hold but still add enough flexibility and shine to keep it feminine and sexy. Blowdry hair around the crown in a sporadic downward direction. Then blow-dry in random upward movements to achieve the disheveled, messy look. Next-day hair is the best for this look!

THE BOB

“A very chic and sophisticated look”

The Trend: The Bob

Who’s Rocking It: Nicole Richie

American Royalty to the Red Carpet:

Thank Jackie Kennedy for popularizing this trend. Her iconic bob was a staple of the ‘60s, emulated by everyone from Grace Kelly to simple housewives, and is still ever-present on red carpets today.

Get the Look:

“A very chic and sophisticated look, the Jackie Kennedy bob is always a classic and timeless style. Customize the length and styling to yourliking. Each client has her comfort zone with length, layers and whether the look is soft

or edgy -- make sure you and your stylist are on the same page. Client consultation is a must! Use a smoothing serum/foundation to get the hair flat if you desire a sleek bob. Blow dry with a paddle brush, following the curvature of the head. Use a flat iron if needed, and finish off with a molding paste for a modern, “piecey” edge! If you’re going for more of a funky layered bob, I apply a root booster, then blow-dry with a medium round brush, and finish off with texture spray and molding paste.” BEAUTY

The Trend:

Making a Comeback:

Get the Look:

Who’s Rocking It:

Who said the curling iron was passé? Like the ‘80s volume celebration of decades past, young style divas on thescene tread the red carpet with luxuriously cascading curls. Whether from extensions or fantastic upkeep, celebs like Megan Fox are wearing their sexy locks with long and easy movement.

Begin with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, but only condition the ends, as conditioning the roots can weigh down the hair and make it harder to hold the curl. Apply a volumizing mousse and blow-drysection by section, wrapping the hair around the brush. Once hair is dry, wrap hair around 2-inch

THE TWIST

The Trend: The Twist

Who’s Rocking It: Jessica Biel

Classic Endure:

Get the Look:

Idolized for her grace and light touch, Audrey Hepburn’s famous updo never goes out of style. Jennifer Love Hewitt is only the latest to channel this delicate figure of Hollywood royalty.

This updo is just like a French twist except rolled down from the top of the head. Apply a texture lotion, back-comb or tease the hair at the back of the crown to add extra volume, and smooth just the outside front of the hair with a flat iron. Roll hair at the back center of head downward, while slightly pushing up for height (longer hair will need to be rolled into the twist to hide). Add a few hairpins to hold in place.”

“Hepburn’s famous updo never goes out of style” BEAUTY

The Trend:

Long, Feathery Layers

Who’s Rocking It:

Jennifer Aniston

All the Talk:

Get the Look:

Long, blown-out mane receives endless editorial attention for recalling Farrah Fawcett’s iconic tousled look.

This style is best on cuts with lots of layers. Apply a thickening spray or leave-in conditioner, and blow-dry with a medium round brush. Divide the hair into three sections from bottom to top, and, using 1-inch-thick vertical sections, dry hair up and back away from the face. With a curling iron 1 inch in diameter, grab vertical sections of the hair around the head, and curl away from the face. Finish with a classic hairspray to lock in the style!”

ShoreThings Fall’s Coolest Beach Trends

Written by Jenny Kleinknecht It’s September now little beach bunnies. That means fall fashion should already be on your minds. Wait, what?! It’s still 75 and sunny… the good news? Just because fall is right around the corner, doesn’t mean you have to hang up those towels just yet. Food for thought: why not carry your beachwear into your fall looks? Incorporate your fall knits into your daily swim attire? Just because the weather is changing (if only ever-so slightly), doesn’t mean you can’t look just as sun kissed and fresh as you do when you’re frolicking in the surf. Here are our top ten way’s to transition your beachwear into the fall. We’ll even make it easy for you and tell you where you can create a look of your own. Can you say, “Cheat sheet?”

Fresh Whites White on white was all the rage for the sweltering summer months but we see the trend carrying into the fall for a fresh clean look. Layer your white cover-ups over your white bikini and your ready to hit the your sure to be casual cool all day long. We know there’s the age-old rule that states that you cannot wear white after Labor Day. We say rules were made to be broken! Maui based brand, Letarte is our one-stop shop for the perfect white ensemble. Sisters, Lisa and Michele Letarte give the perfect options for layering over your swimwear with their beautiful crochet cover-ups and lacey loungewear.

Fit & Fly Staying in fit and lean is always important and not just during the summer months, but just because your working up a sweat doesn’t mean you can’t look good while pulling out your best Downward Facing Dog pose. When your hitting the sand for a little beach yoga session, do it up in style and wear a cute pair of bohemian trousers to your favorite bikini top to add some flare to your work out look. Take a cue from the ever-environmentally friendly brand, Gypsy 05. This relaxed, free-spirited label employs the first solar-powered dying, printing and manufacturing facility in Los Angeles. Perfect for those of you who care about your carbon footprint.

Jump on It The old saying goes “Diamonds are a girls best friend.” And while some of you will most definitely disagree… we think something can be said, especially as of late, for the jumpsuit (just go ahead and substitute diamond for jumpsuit). They are everywhere; don’t even try to deny it! Ultra-chic and figure flattering, this key piece is the perfect all-in-one ensemble for a night on the town. Still not sold? Take a gander at Alice & Olivia’s selection of structured jumpsuits and we’re convinced you’ll change your mind. Designer Stacey Bendet knows what a woman wants and we’re telling you… It’s a jumpsuit!

Knit It Up What is the best way to bring your beach swimwear into an evening look? Survey says: throw a cozy knit over top and pair it with some awesome denim cut-offs. Even though the sun went down, you will look hot, hot, hot all night long. No one does a knit quite like this vintage-inspired knitwear brand, Wildfox and we are slightly, ok, a little more than slightly, obsessed with the brands slouchy sweaters and luxurious knits. Just wait, it gets better, Wildfox doesn’t stop at just knits; the label has a variety of swim, denim and accessories collections all for the taking. STYLE

Mixing Prints We love a good graphic print. What we love even more than that is mixing those graphic prints in an unexpected, yet super cool way. Which is why we bring to you, drum roll please… Royal Native. This beach brand features bold, in-your-face tribal prints that are perfect if you want to stand out in a crowd. Designer, Hilary Star de Roy, guarantees that no two patterns are alike (Say what?!). Throw on a pair of her chic-cut and might we say, adorable shorts and an equally bright beach bag and badda boom badda bing… trend complete. The great thing about mixing prints is that the quirkier the better! Fashion is about having fun people; don’t be scared to try new things!

Stand in the sun and be seen, yell it from the rooftops! And do it in our favorite exotic label, Indah! Dress For You Gone are the days of dressing in clothes that don’t fit, (say goodbye muffin tops and butt cracks!) whether they are to small or to large. Wear pieces that flatter your body type! We are happy to bring to you Fit 4 U Swim, a swimwear brand that focuses on dressing real women with real body concerns. Designer Pattie Byrnes combines trendy designs with camouflaging techniques that actually lift, conceal and support… hallelujah!

The Season’s ‘It’ Bag Trend alert: Backpacks. Not just for the average high school attendee anymore. These overnight obsessions can be spotted backs of every fashionista around (we’re talkin’ Jessica Alba to Miley Cyrus here). Never fear, there’s still time to jump on the bandwagon with RVCA’s selection of stylish bags. Don’t get it twisted, RVCA offers much more than just backpacks. We just can’t get these little bags of perfection out of our minds so we had to share!

Birken-what? We know you’ve seen this shoe. That’s right… the Birkenstock sandal. This sandal has caught fire and left, even those of us that were skeptical, total believers. Trina Turk offers the perfect adaptation to the vagabond sandal in a beautiful zebra pattern. With fall around the corner, you can even wear these sandals with a cozy sock. Yes, we said it. Socks worn with sandals are now a thing… get with the program! The only rule you need to know about fashion these days is that are no rules!

Swimwear to Evening Wear Recently, reality star, Kim K. stepped out wearing a sexy black one-piece swimsuit underneath a beautiful maxi skirt… and hence a trend is born. This is a chic spin on the lingerie for evening wear look. Wear a sexy one-piece swimsuit and a gorgeous trouser or maxi skirt and boom: Your beach look just transitioned seamlessly into an ensemble worthy of a night on the town. Don’t worry; we’ve got the perfect swim label for you (obvi). Behold, Jets by Jessica Allen. This Sydney bread and Milan trained designer got her start in the early 80’s designing body suits. Ahem, what goes around comes around. Don’t you know? A good trend never dies. Why stop there, substitute a simple bikini top instead of a typical bra for an edgy take on the bralette!

Next to pop quizzes and gymclass field hockey, shopping for jeans has always been one of our

least favorite fall/winter activities. Not only do we need to make

sense of ever-changing denim trends (wide-leg or stovepipe? high-waisted

5

or

low-slung?),

there’s also the matter of decod-

ing which ones work on our own figures. And by the time we’ve

made sense of it all, fashion’s pow-

ers-that-be never fail to throw a new style into the mix, leaving

us befuddled yet once again.

To make this season’s search a bit less painful, we put together

a cheat sheet of denim trends.

We’ve outlined what you’ll be seeing in stores, which trends

will work for your shape, and how to complete your outfit. After all, updating your wardrobe should always be fun, even

If you’re long and lean, try: ankle-length styles th e tren d :

Audrey Hepburn immortalized the look with her charming combination of clam-diggers and ballet flats, and denim brands are bringing it by cropping our favorite skinny jeans above the ankle.

how to wear it: This style is perfect for boyish figures, as ankle-length pants shorten coltish legs and give them some shape. The style looks great paired with a tank, fitted leather jacket and Sambag Sydney Ballet Flats to complete the look. Shop now at www.sambag.com.au where to find it:

We’re loving FIGI Jeans, a revolutionary denim brand inspired by contemporary art. The trendy accented denim wear is perfect for showing off a unique and personal style and the Muse Fit is the perfect low rise skinny fit from the hips through the ankle. The collection is a true testament to art, pop culture, and fashion, and their ankle length style will make your legs look long and lean while still letting you to show off your cute shoes. Shop now at www.figijeans.com

If you’re tall and thin, try: stretch denim the trend:

Stretch denim takes the skinny jean to a whole new level. No playful scrunching around the ankle here. This skin-tight, curve-celebrating trend hypes up the ‘80s.

how to wear it: This jean complements the oh-so-hot Roxy Knee-High Boot from Sambag Sydney, by minimizing excess material shoved into the boot. It also provides an exciting contrast to chunky ankle boots. Just be suretouchy pieces on top to complement the ultratight bottoms. Shop now at www.sambag.com.au where to find it:

With a variety of styles and colors to choose from, Hudson is the perfect go-to for all of you (should-be) aspiring models with their Supermodel perfect fit with 36” inseam. Their trademark Reform Denim jeans are a perfect fit with 360 degree stretch denim and 100% stretch recovery that holds its shape all day (and night long). the trend:

After a long season of barbecues and beer, you can be forgiven for packing on a few pounds around the middle. Thankfully, high-waisted denim hasn’t gone anywhere, nor has its ability to give us an instant tummy tuck.

how to wear it: High-waisted jeans are most flatter-

ing with a wider leg, especially when worn with a tuckedin top. We recommend pairing it with BCBG’s drape front blouse, which draws the eye up and away from any bulging around the waist or this season’s sizzling print tops from Talulah. Pair it with a leather strappy wedge sandal like Chinese Laundry’s JAVA. Shop at www.bcbg.com www.talulah.com.au and chineselaundry.com

where to find it: The Scarlett high-rise are skinny perfection. The high waistband is subtle so you won’t be advertising to the world that you’ve got something to hide and the sleek silhouette will make your legs look miles long. Vintage inspired, these pants promise to look hip—exactly what you’d expect and hope from a brand called WILDFOX! Shop now at www.wildfox.com

Although Ameridian, Latin and European influences are found in every aspect of life, a highlight for travelers is always the flavor-rich cuisine, served at more than 200 restaurants ranging from local dining spots to world-class international establishments. From Keri-Keri and other seafood masterpieces to gouda-glazed keshi yena, there is something to appease any palate. Situated atop the hill of Hudishibana at the foot of the famous California Lighthouse, La Trattoria El Faro Blanco is as famous for its 360-degree views of the island as its rich Italian dishes. The breathtaking views of Tierra del Sol, Aruba’s 18-hole championship golf course, and the northwestern tip of the island make breakfast, lunch or dinner a picture-perfect experience. The first Aruban restaurant to popularize on-thebeach dining, Flying Fishbone plays a large role in Aruba’s prominence as an ultimate sandbar island. This culinary gem, tucked in the charming fisherman’s town of Savaneta, invites visitors to enjoy mouthwatering seafood and steak creations against the backdrop of a beautiful sunset or starry sky. Play For many, spending tranquil days basking and relaxing in the never-ending sunshine is the highlight of their vacation in Aruba. But beyond the beaches, adventure-seekers will discover that the One happy island is full of invigorating land and sea activities. With underwater exploration on one end of the island and the rugged and wild excursions through Arikok National Park on the other, there is no shortage of action. Sprawling across nearly 20 percent of the island, the government-protected Arikok National Park is an exciting playground for visitors seeking something more than a traditional day on the beach. Adrenaline junkies can take a walk on the wild side as they trek through Arikok National Park on an ABC Tours Jeep safari. Adventurers can choose between half or full-day before the caravan-style Jeep takes them over canyons and jagged rocks, dodging cacti and exploring the natural beauty of the island’s northern shore. The family-owned ABC Tours is Aruba’s leading jeep tour company. They offer routes that stop at must-see spots such as the historic California Lighthouse, Bushiribana Gold Mill Ruins, Alto Vista Chapel as well as the island’s most stunning sights – Conchi (Aruba’s natural pool), Baby Beach and the Guadirikiri Caves. Aruba’s appeal stretches beyond the beach and continues well into the sparkling waves. Nestled in the Southern Caribbean outside the fringes of the hurricane belt, the island boasts year-round cooling trade winds and favorable water conditions, characteristics that support Aruba’s accolade as the windsurfing capital of the world. Water sport enthusiasts from novices to professionals can take advantage of this perfection by grabbing some waves with a windsurfing or kiteboarding lesson. Located a few minutes past the high-rise district of Palm Beach is Hadicurari Beach, or “Fisherman’s Huts,” which is home to more than a dozen international sporting events where visitors test their various skills. Watersport operators and instructors are plentiful, and one of the most well-known is Aruba Active Vacations. Located right on Hadicurari Beach, the company provides equipment rentals and lessons to everyone from amateurs to pros. Advanced kiteboarders often opt for the wild waves found at Boca Grandi.

One of the island’s newer water activities is standup paddle boarding (SUP), or better known in the states as “YOLO.” Adjusting to balancing on water is the most difficult part, but after paddlers get used to the movement it has been described as “walking on water.” The serene coastal waters of Palm Beach and Mangel Halto not only provide the ideal location for this sport, but also a unique perspective of the island.
