From Ace Hardware Enthusiast to Community Pillar
A Young Entrepreneur’s Journey:
FROM ACE HARDWARE ENTHUSIAST TO COMMUNITY PILLAR
by Sophie Finnigan
Growing up in the heart of Virginia before relocating to sunny Carlsbad at the age of 8, Logan McEniry’s upbringing was steeped in service and community. Both his parents retired as FBI agents, instilling in him a strong sense of duty and responsibility. Attending Carlsbad High School, he found an early passion for hands-on work, which led him to begin his career at Carlsbad Ace Hardware at the young age of 16. Little did he know that this humble start would pave the way for a remarkable journey ahead.
While many teenagers were contemplating their future paths, Logan harbored dreams of enlisting in the military. However, his parents, recognizing
his academic potential, urged him to pursue higher education. Logan compromised by enrolling in Marquette University and joining ROTC, all while continuing to work at the Carlsbad Ace Hardware when he was home during breaks. Fate took a twist during the COVID-19 pandemic when Carlsbad’s Ace Hardware shuttered its doors, leaving Logan grounded in the community he had grown to love.
Undeterred, Logan transitioned seamlessly to Oceanside Ace Hardware while completing his engineering degree at Marquette, deepening his connections in the community. It was during his senior year that opportunity came knocking in the form of a call to purchase the very store where he had continued his journey. Graduating from college
with an engineering degree and a commission in the Marine Corps, Logan embarked on the dual path of entrepreneurship and military service.
Returning to Oceanside, Logan immersed himself in the day-to-day operations of his newly acquired Ace Hardware before embarking on military training in Virginia and North Carolina. Despite the demands of military service, he continued to run the store full-time, a testament to his unwavering dedication and work ethic.
For Logan, owning Ace Hardware isn’t just about running a business; it’s about fulfilling his lifelong passion for helping others. The joy of seeing customers walk in without a clue and leave with the knowledge and tools to tackle their projects fuels his enthusiasm every day. With Ace Hardware serving as a focal point of the community, Logan relishes the opportunity to interact with customers old and new, creating a space where friendships are forged, and stories are shared.
Under his stewardship, Ace Hardware has become more than just a store; it’s a cornerstone of the community. In 2023 alone, the store boasted 87,000 paying customers, a testament to its enduring appeal.
But Logan’s commitment extends beyond the walls of his store; he believes in giving back to the community that has supported him. Whether through charitable donations, advertising dollars, or simply lending a helping hand, Logan ensures that Ace Hardware remains ingrained in the fabric of the community it serves.
At just 24 years old, Logan’s journey as an entrepreneur and reservist is still in its infancy. Yet, he navigates the challenges of youth with grace and determination, proving that age is no barrier to success. From overcoming the skepticism of elders to juggling the demands of military training, Logan takes it all in stride, fueled by his passion for service and community.
For Logan, the reality of owning Ace Hardware may not always match the expectations, but the satisfaction of making a difference in people’s lives makes it all worthwhile. As he looks to the future, Logan is filled with gratitude for the opportunity to live his dream career, owning Ace Hardware and helping people, one project at a time. Make sure to stop by and say hello to Logan and his friendly Ace Hardware team!
