WE JUST HAD THE TASTIEST CALZONES

That being said, I think he’ll be happy to know that I just discovered a brand new spot for calzones, pizza and other Italian comfort food.
You may know that my momma grew up in Providence’s Little Italy (also known as Federal Hill), but you may not be aware that my husband was raised in Cranston’s version of Little Italy, otherwise known as the KNIGHTSVILLE neighborhood.
So, the Italian American influence is strong, lol!
Anyway, we were there yesterday to try out Lou Umberto’s Italian Kitchen on Cranston Street and I must tell you that — no exaggeration — their hot spinach and cheese calzone was one of the best I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.
First off it was pipping hot. Next it was a generous portion, probably enough for two to split but hey, I was hangry. Lastly, the ingredients were SUPER fresh. As a matter of fact, my hubbie kept saying that, over and over. And as I’ve said previously, he can be a tough customer (insert eye roll emoji here).
In short, I simply cannot say enough complimentary things
about the entire experience of unboxing and devouring it.
Also, a friend confided recently that he always gets his pizza and spinach pies at Lou’s now.
Lest you think they are strictly pizza and such, I’m here to let you know that is NOT the case.
In fact, we were thrilled to see the variety of classic Italian baked goods (such as wine and pepper biscuits, we left with a bag of wine biscuit bites and I highly recommend those too) and prepared foods.
If like me you don’t care to spend hours in the kitchen preparing old world Mediterranean dishes, you will want to bookmark this place. (Okay, apparently Sophia Loren is not only gorgeous, but she can also cook up a storm and has even published multiple
cookbooks. Precisely why she’s a goddess, I suppose.)
My only callout would be delivery.
I mean, it would be close to perfect if they offered it, even in just the 02920.
And my only regret is that we didn’t order MORE food.
