THE NICE WEATHER WHEN we can stroll around without heavy coats or lots of layers, that we've all been waiting for? Finally here this week you guys!
Excellent time then to get out and explore the OS, especially somewhere like Wickford Village. That's exactly how we first happened upon the design inspo (what the kids on IG are calling it these days) that is My Paris Apartment. Since it's literally off the beaten path, set back behind the Wickford Gourmet Outlet (a classic for sure), you may not be aware. In fact, there's a vg chance you've probably motored by tons of times without even realizing.
the shop all your friends will be posting about:
Don't know about the Paris reference (if we had a Paris apartment...#lifegoals), but it does have a completely charming aesthetic, a mix that's part floral design studio on the 2nd floor (stalk the My Paris Apartment Insta and ToniChandlerFlorals.com for some of the absolutely gorgeous arrangements they've done for weddings and such.), part gift and garden (bring on the greenery!) shop on the ground level. All with whimsical touches throughout and this rustic feel that continues to have quite the resurgence both online (two words - Insta Worthy) and IRL these last few years. For the record, vintage treasures back to green plants and fresh flowers will always get the approving nod from us. And hint, hint, Mom's Day is coming up. So, if you need a break from fluorescent lighting (some of the most unflattering out there, you've been warned.) at the big box stores and want something more eclectic, put on your favorite pair of flats (yes, sneakers are an option and yes, we do detest the term kicks when used to mean sneakers.) and scope out My Paris Apartment, along with all the other superlative shopping in The Wick. •

WHEN WE WORK WITH CUSTOMERS
wanting to either build a new home or do renovations to their current one, decks are usually a strong area of conversation. We ask questions like: “How will you utilize your deck?” “How much time do you want to spend maintaining it?” “What material do you want your deck to be?” These may seem like simple questions bringing answers such as; “I want to use it all the time! I don’t want to spend time maintaining it. What are my options?” With this list of benefits associated with Trex decking, this is often our go to solution for the home owner.
Low maintenance with Trex decking
This is a great selling feature for most composite decking compared to other materials such as cedar and pressure treated. Trex decking requires no resealing or re-painted after a couple of years. Cedar is known to fade requiring treatment and pressure treated decks, while more resistant than cedar, are often painted to spruce up their appearance. Trex decking comes in a variety of finishes to fit most people’s’ taste and budget. This means no Wesimply are your one-stop-shop paint or staining; just spray down your deckfor finding your dream home. whenever you feel the need and then get back to enjoying it! Using Trex, you will be able to spend time enjoying your deck, rather than maintaining it — what we all envision for a deck.
Trex is eco-friendly
We are constantly looking for different ways that we can become more of a greener company than we were yesterday. That means lots of research on different building products that can aid in this. That is what we have found in the production process of Trex decking which has enabled them to make their products out of up to 95% recycled materials. Building greener homes is the future of the building industry which is why we use a forward-thinking company like Trex.
Enjoy Trex for longer than other decks
Trex stands by their products by offering a 25-year limited residential fade and stain warranty. This gives us the insurance that we won’t be held up during a build due to poor quality of the product. As a company that takes pride in our work, we enjoy the fact that our suppliers do as well.
Final results with Trex speak for themselves
We could not be happier with the end result and appearance of our decks. Trex creates some of the most realistic composite decking available and we have been able to find answers for every one of our projects when needed. If you are interested in talking with us about installing a new deck at your home, contact us! •

MY SUNDAY NIGHT @HOME
Facial Routine I’VE HAD QUITE the skincare journey
over the past year or two, and while I’ve talked about how to deal with blackheads, whiteheads, and hormonal acne, I haven’t really discussed one of the finer points of good skincare: a weekly at-home facial routine to help boost the results of your daily face washing rituals. There are five main steps to this, and I swear they are all so worth it. This routine always leaves my skin looking calm, clear, and soft the next morning. Like a baby’s butt I tell ya. I won’t bore you too much with an intro, because I know you’re just here for the meat of the content, so let’s get into it: I start off my
removing my makeup (if I even have any on, it is Sunday after all) with the Boscia Sake Cleansing Water. This is my favorite makeup remover out of everything I tested for le SECT by far. It’s just such a cool product and removes even water proof mascara so easily. Then I’ll slather jojoba oil all over my face and steam it for a few minutes using a hot wash cloth. Jojoba is the oil that is the most chemically similar to skin’s own sebum, so when you steam your skin with jojoba oil, it helps to liquify any built up solid sebum in your pores. This probably sounds a little too good to be true, but trust me, when you combine it with the next step, you’ll really see results.
CLEANSE
Any foaming cleanser of your choice will do here, although I have sensitive skin, so I prefer something that is free of fragrance and other irritants, like CeraVe. The key player in this step is the Clarisonic, or any other cleansing tool that will give you some vibrational goodness. You obviously don’t NEED this, but the vibrations help to break up
20 OC E A N S TAT E JUNE 2018
and remove the sebum you just liquified in the previous step of the routine. So you’re left with super clean skin, and already have a few less blackheads than when you started. So far, so good. Next comes the big guns.
MASK
<< Acne.org 8 oz. Organic Jojoba Oil $19.79
Next comes the actual masking part. I religiously use the Drunk Elephant TLC Sukari Babyfacial (though The Ordinary does have a much cheaper dupe I’ve been meaning to try). It’s a chemical exfoliate that helps remove any dead skin cells sitting on the top layer of your face, helping any acne scars fade quickly, while keeping your skin from looking dull, getting flaky, or forming whiteheads and other clogged pores. You leave it on for 20 minutes, at which point I usually go get a snack or watch some YouTube or Netflix. If you’ve never used a chemical exfoliant before, you may want to start with 10 minutes and build your way up from there.
TREAT Once I rinse the mask off, I like to go in with whatever my current cocktail of serums is. Right now, it’s the Drunk Elephant B-Hydra serum, Stratia’s Liquid Gold, and the 2% Granactive Retinoid from The Ordinary. I’ve also been following up with some eye cream from CeraVe, although I’m not sure that it does much. This current combination is mostly about hydration and anti-aging, which is usually what I’m looking for in a night time routine.
>> DRUNK ELEPHANT T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ $80.00
HYDRATE The last step is to pile on even more oily hydrating goodness. I mix a few drops of Marula Oil from The Ordinary with Drunk Elephant’s Lala Retro Whipped Cream and apply that to my face. Then, I take a small amount (seriously, a super thin layer) of the First Aid Beauty Instant Oatmeal Mask and apply that on top of everything else. Even though this mask is supposed to only be left on for ten minutes, I leave it on with the rest of my products overnight, and in the morning my skin is baby soft and has virtually no redness. And that’s it! Do you guys have a go-to at-home facial routine? I’d love to hear all about it! Speaking of skin care, have you checked out my new website, le SECT? It’s a place where I’m curating skin care products that are free of fragrance, irritants, and sensitizers, and are pH balanced. I’d love it if you checked it out and signed up for the email list! I’ll be posting new products every Sunday. •

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee THE ORIGINAL JEEP THAT HELPED WIN WW II was created in a
mere 49 days by brilliant engineers trying to meet the Army’s requirements for a vehicle that could get anywhere on the battlefield. It has come a long way since then. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a lot of options for drivers who want both comfort and style on the road along with strong off-road capabilities. Car and Driver calls the Grand Cherokee “the most well rounded and most capable off-road in a crowded segment.” IHS Markit recognized it for having the highest model loyalty in the midsize SUV segment for three years in a row. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee upholds its vaunted name by leading its class in off-road capabilities. It offers more than the average SUV, providing models, four-wheel drive systems and key components that you can choose based on where you plan to take it. In addition to the strong standard V6, it offers three V8 engines, including the SRT’s 475 horsepower V8 and the Trackhawk’s incredibly powerful 707 horsepower V8. The Grand Cherokee has a model for every SUV enthusiast.
AVAILABLE MODELS
The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a five-passenger SUV available in seven trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, SRT and Trackhawk. Most come with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The Trailhawk, Grand Cherokee’s best off-road model, is four-wheel drive only. The SRT and Trackhawk have specialized all-wheel-drive. Each utilizes an eight speed automatic transmission. 28 OC E A N S TAT E JUNE 2018
Limited trim level features include all of those plus special added ones including: • Heated seats and steering wheel • 18 inch painted wheels • Memory system for the driver’s preferred seat, side view mirrors, steering wheel and radio station settings • 115-volt power outlet. • Options include a 5.7 liter V8 engine (360 horsepower) and 4-wheel drive rather than the standard 4x2 rear-wheel drive.
The Trailhawk Model is designed for off-road
driving. Edmunds called it “one of the most capable off-road SUVs in its class.” It is only available in 4-wheel drive with low-range gearing and adjustable air suspension to allow the body to be raised or lowered based on conditions. It includes all of the Limited trim items plus Trailhawk-specific features designed to provide an outstanding off-road experience. These include: • Hill ascent and descent control • Electronic limited-slip rear differential • Underbody skid plates • Upgraded instrument panel with special off-road features • 8.4 inch touchscreen • Navigation system • 9-speaker sound system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone interface
The Grand Cherokee Overland shares the
Trailhawk's navigation and upgraded sound system and adds luxury features, including: • 20 inch polished alloy wheels • HID headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED fog lights • Automatic high beams • Power tilt/telescoping wood and leather wrapped steering wheel • Perforated Nappa leather-trimmed seating • Optional Quadra-Trac II 4-wheel drive system • Optional adjustable air suspension (on-road version) available with Quadra-Trac II four wheel drive system.
The Summit trim package provides Grand
Cherokee’s greatest level of comfort and safety. It includes all of Overland’s standard equipment plus: • 20 inch polished wheels • Headlight washers • Front parking sensors • Self-parking system (parallel and perpendicular) • Special noise reducing window glass (beyond that included in lower trim packages) • Active noise-cancelling technology • Adaptive cruise control (to keep you a safe distance from vehicles ahead in your lane) • Blind-spot monitoring • Rear cross-traffic alert • Forward collision mitigation system with automatic emergency braking • Upgraded leather seating with diamond-quilted accents • 19 speaker Harmon Kardon audio system • Optional full-leather interior Many of Summit’s safety features can be added to the Overland model with the High Altitude package.
The SRT model includes most of the Summit’s
features with a few distinctive changes, like: • 6.4 liter V8 engine (475 horsepower) • All-wheel drive system tuned for high performance driving (rather than regular or off-road use) • Adaptive sport-tuned suspension • Sport-tuned steering and brakes • Sport body kit • Limited-slip rear differential • Selectable performance modes • Optional upgraded brakes • Optional panoramic sunroof • Optional upgraded leather upholstery • Optional 19-speaker audio system • Optional towing package
Trackhawk: The Trackhawk shares much of the
SRT’s standard equipment. But it goes even further for those looking for a high-performance SUV. It looks more aggressive than other Grand Cherokee models, and its looks are not deceiving. High performance features include: • Supercharged 6.2 liter V8 engine producing an amazing 707 horsepower output • Upgraded 8-speed transmission • Brembo brakes, also used by Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Mercedes and others • Lightweight 20 inch wheels with high-performance tires An optional dual-screen rear entertainment system with Blu-ray capability is offered on the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit and SRT trim packages.
PERFORMANCE AND HANDLING US News Car Rankings states: With
Jeep's variety of trims, you can get a 2018 Grand Cherokee that's comfortable for commuting, has outstanding off-road abilities, or offers beastly performance. No matter which Grand Cherokee you select, you'll get a smooth ride and a powerful engine. There’s a reason why Jeep owners are so loyal. Each has been able to select a model that performs well for their particular lifestyle and needs. Standard rearview camera and rear parking sensors make it much easier to park this tall SUV. INTERIOR Jeep’s interior refinements to the Grand Cherokee give it a comfortable cabin regardless of the kind of trip you’re making. Seating is high, which aids visibility. But there’s still plenty of headroom, even for tall drivers and passengers. There’s ample kneeroom for all. Doors are wide, making getting in and out easier. The optional air suspension can bring this tall SUV down to a comfortable level for everyone. Infotainment System The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s Infotainment system is outstanding. The display offered in every trim package has been upgraded from previous years and offers higher resolution screens. The optional onboard Wi-Fi now uses a faster 4G LTE connection. With the optional rear seat dual-screen entertainment system, the Grand Cherokee has been described as “a movie theater on wheels.”
CONCLUSIONThe 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a lot to keep drivers and passengers happy, whether they’re on a road trip, commuting to work or going off-road. Its many models and option packages make it possible to tailor this high-quality SUV for your individual needs. Parents, grandparents, off-road enthusiasts and car-poolers who want to provide a great experience to their coworkers will find a lot to like in this mid-sized SUV. If you’re in the market for a great on and off-road experience, you’ll want to check out the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. •
