TRANSITIONING INTO FALL Taking summer pieces into the new season!
Do you feel it? That’s right, Fall is finally here! Growing up in New England, I have definitely grown to love Fall over the years and it is now by far my favorite season. I do love summer, don’t get me wrong. But the cooler temperatures, the leaves changing colors, pumpkins, apple picking, fairs, I mean I could go on and on about why I love Fall. But I’m not always ready to tuck away all my favorite summer outfits just because its colder out. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to use your Summer pieces and I ’m 2 7 ye a r s o ld a n d a Pe d iat r ic R e gis te re d N u r s e by d ay w h o n e e d e d a c re at ive o utlet o u t sid e of wo r k . transition them into Fall. I will show you 3 outfits I put together and how you can use Fall staples to make these Summer pieces work for the new season. Before I go into the outfits, I want to explain the Fall staples I used. First off a denim jacket is a must have. There are tons of different styles and washes of denim jackets to choose from too. I prefer the simple dark wash jacket because
I feel like it pairs well with absolutely everything. Next is a flannel shirt. I have quite a few in my closet and they are just perfect for Fall. Whether you want to wear them as is or over a tee or dress, it is a closet staple. And then third are booties and boots. Doesn’t matter what color or style, I feel like booties and boots in general are a necessity for the Fall season. I wear mine all season long and have a ton of pairs in my closet to go with any outfit.
1. Denim Jacket is a small but I got it so long
ago from a boutique I forgot where. Dress is from Target, wearing a small, TTS. Booties are DSW. Dress: Target (found the one
1.
I’m wearing) | Jacket: Old Navy (Similar) | Booties: DSW (Similar) Everyone has simple dresses that they wear in the Summer. This one happens to be the perfect color to go into Fall. But you can pair any Summer dress with a denim jacket and add some booties to complete the look. This is a perfect outfit for a day out and about.
2. Flannel shirt if from Old Navy wearing a small. Romper is from Francesca’s, wearing a small. Booties from DSW. Flannel: Old Navy (lots of other great options!) |Romper: Francesca’s (Similar)| Booties: DSW (Similar) The Western trend is going strong this season and who doesn’t love a good flannel shirt in the Fall anyway?

Bodysuit: Pink Lily Boutique (Similar) | Shorts: Hazel and Olive Boutique (Similar, skort) | Thigh-Highs: DSW (Similar) This is by far my favorite transition outfit I picked out! Thigh high boots are my absolute favorite. I paired them with a cute pair of shorts and a plain black bodysuit. It is the perfect outfit for a date night or night out with the girls. You can take any Summer piece and turn it into a great Fall outfit just by using some Fall staples in your closet. You don’t have to put away all your favorite clothes you wore all Summer long. As the weather transitions and it starts to

get cooler out, remember that you can turn those rompers and dresses into great Fall outfits that will make them feel like new again too! Tell me what your favorite Fall transition pieces are in the comments below! XOXO, Chels

From grief, substance abuse, and mental health disorders, to a post-apocalyptic exodus, a seemingly sinister babysitter with unusual motivations, and a group of pesky ex-boyfriends who won’t stay dead, Something Borrowed, Something Blood-Soaked is a compelling exploration of horrors both supernatural and psychological, and an undeniable affirmation of Carmen’s flair for short fiction.

There's nothing quite like the magic of a black and white image. While full color is stunning, black and white seems to make the memories more vivid, forcing our minds to replay everything in living color and relive the most wonderful moments. As the days get shorter and the nights a bit longer, New England is finally starting to show signs of Fall. Fall is something we can all start to feel: the air gets crisper, the breeze just a bit chilly and the leaves begin to turn our favorite shades of red and gold.
With these signs of a new season, we all begin to yearn for everything comfy and cozy and warm and toasty: and that's what I am here to share. Without further ado, I give to you one of my favorite cozy fall drinks that can be enjoyed by people of all ages – Pumpkin Spice Hot Chocolate!
It might sound a bit far fetched, but trust me on this one, it is yummy and so super easy to make. All you need is some pumpkin spice creamer, milk and the

hot chocolate packets you can find at pretty much any grocery store (I also like to add marshmallows, but they are totally optional!)
Simply follow the instructions listed for the hot chocolate packets. Here I 'll usually substitute the suggested water for milk because I like it to be creamier. If you're looking to indulge, steam some whole milk on the stove top and slowly whisk in the hot choclate packet!
After your hot choclate is ready to go, grab your favorite fall mug (mine is a special edition Harry Potter mug from Owlcrate – see my blog for more about this company, because they are such a gem for book lovers!)
After pouring your drink into your favorite mug, grab your pumpkin spice creamer and pour the desired amount in. To make this drink even more indulgent, grab a couple of marshmallows and a can of whipped cream and pile it on top! Finish off with some cinnamon and you now have a perfect comfy and cozy fall drink.
I hope you truly enjoy one of my favorite drinks of the season. I discovered this drink when I was visitng the White Mountains of New Hampshire and was craving a comfy drink but only had so many items in the fridge.

INAUGURAL SILLER FOUNDATION 5K RUN AT FORT ADAMS With a Revolutionary War cannon shot to start them, and a Nathanael Greene re-enactor on horseback to spur them on, and the Newport Fire Boat to greet them as they ran through the gate, Rhode Island's Inaugural Stephen Siller 5K was off to a roaring start! Stephen Siller was an off-duty firefighter from Brooklyn when the first plane hit the World Trade Towers on 9/11. Because the Battery Tunnel was blocked solid, Stephen put on his 60 pounds of gear and ran the three miles to the Twin towers where he perished when the towers fell. Brian Doyle, Rhode Island District Sales Manager for General Motors, organized and hosted the event for over 600 runners, walkers, onlookers, and volunteers at Historic Fort Adams last Saturday. Mr Doyle explained, “Siller's family established a foundation to provide comfort for the widows and children of first responders. After paying off the mortgages for those families, the foundation turned to building homes for catastrophically injured military service members.” The homes are customized for amputees who lost limbs to IED's and other battlefield trauma. These homes include specialized features that run off i-pads to allow the heroes to lead as independent a life as possible. More information is found at Tunnel2Towers.org. Newport Fire Fighter Eddie Valen led a large contingent of his comrades, many running in full turnout gear, as a tribute to the courage and commitment of Stephen Siller and the First Responders who went fearlessly into the most catastrophic event for America since World War II. “Eddie” as he is known throughout the town, is an accomplished runner who has inspired hundreds of new and experienced joggers to join him on Thursday evenings as they meet at Fastnet Pub to run the

streets around the Colony House. This time, he inspired them to turn out for a cause that continues to provide financial relief for First Responders and military veterans who are killed or catastophically injured in the line of duty. There was abundant community support for the 450 runners on Saturday. GMC dealers adopted the Siller Foundation as their charity of choice for service to their neighborhoods. Cars and trucks from Masse, Tasca, Cerrone, Alden, and Hurd dealerships lined the infield. GM Regional Director Regis Buckley assisted Scott Wellington, President of Buick/GMC's Southern New England Dealer Body, to present the Foundation with $30,000 raised from the local dealers. Audrain Motors Concours also adopted the Siller Foundation as one of the five local charities it supported with donations generated from their recent Concours d'Elegance. Executive Director of Audrain's Motor Week, Rick Schad added color to the infield with two exotic cars from the Audrain collection. He will announce a significant contribution to all five charities at an Audrain event in the near future. Not to be intimidated by the Audrain vehicles and the strong GM presence, Col Todd Oneto, the Senior Marine Corps Representative at the Naval War College, parked his 1969 Mercury Cougar alongside the sleek, high-end European sports cars. Col Oneto also brought a contingent of Marines to guide participants around the many checkpoints and turns in the 3.1 mile course. General Motors executive Jeffrey Wormald joined the Marines to line the route with placards bearing the names and photographs of each of the 343 First Responders who were killed on September 11, 2001. Mr. Doyle, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, called the runners to the starting line with a warm greeting and rousing encouragement. Middletown resident Eugene McCabe, whose brother Michael was at his desk in the Twin Towers when he perished in the attack, read a thought provoking “Prayer for First Responders” that was written by Cape Cod artist and poet Karen Rinaldo. Ms. Rinaldo followed with a reading of her companion piece “Ode to Stephen Siller.”
Then it was time for Donna Beebe, the well known community booster and Middletown 7-Eleven owner, to sing the National Anthem in her stirring a capella rendition that she has been asked to perform at many Aquidneck Island events. Michael Pine, dressed in his Revoutionary War uniform, fired the historic cannon that sent the runners off. Ft Adams Trust Program Director Jen Chapin designed a 5K course that showcased the beauty of the property and Narragansett Bay. The fire boat gushing water high in the air was a surprise to all and a rarely seen display of the fire fighters' versatility. Many local merchants contributed to the amenities that served the runners and volunteers. Nathanael Greene Homestead in Coventry sent Navy Commander Dan Loda dressed as the namesake on his horse Huckleberry to add to the colonial flair of the setting. Liberty Donuts, 7-Eleven stores, Oceancliff Timeshare Resort, Run Newport, and Newport Health Works, and the Fort Adams Trust added their own special hospitality. Mr. Doyle brought the day to a close with an awards ceremony for several age group categories. He thanked the many participants and GM colleagues who made the day a success. Mr Doyle explained that Rhode Island is now in the record books for the Siller Foundation goal to run a 5K in each of the 50 states. The main event in New York City draws over 40,000 runners to honor First Responders everywhere. As runners and guests left the fort, they were handed a commemorative certificate by volunteers that Allison Wilke had recruited to help with the event. The image of the fort and Newport/Pell Bridge was created and donated by Ms Rinaldo. As noontime approached, Mr. Doyle promised to return next year to continue an event that is run in 73 communities across America. “It was an honor and pleasure to spearhead today's run,” he said. “The enthusiasm and focus that so many people in the community brought to the day was truly something special. I have a lot of Thank You notes to write!”
