Currently loving to chainstitch little doodles. We have a 100-year-old hand operated chainstitch machine and its super fun to play around with . It's nice to sew for fun still for us even though we sew for work too. Also have been loving making clothes like hoodies and joggers from scratch. Super rewarding to wear your own clothes!

When you feel scared is when you are usually doing something right. When you are just about to give up is the point to keep going. Nothing comes easy, and for us it's constant practice. You may have to take 100 seams out before you can sew 1000 more. •

I’VE TRIED TO GOOGLE for a comprehensive list of
s e o h s f o s r i a p 12
oman everoyulw d ow n sh
shoes that every woman should own more times than I’d like to admit. There’s something oddly calming and comforting to me about a good list. Clear action (i.e. purchase) items that don’t seem quite as daunting as scrolling through pages and pages of online shopping, only to possibly end up spending hard earned money on something that I won’t end up wearing. Unfortunately, I have yet to be satisfied with any of the lists of shoe essentials I’ve found, so, after a significant amount of internal reflection and thought about what a good wardrobe needs, I’ve created my own. Take a look, read through my styling tips, and let me know what you think!
CLASSIC BLACK PUMPS
I know, I knowww: groundbreaking start to your list of essential shoes, Becky. But just hear me out. Whether they’re a simple piece meant to tone down a statement outfit, giving an otherwise masculine outfit some feminine daintiness, or just being your go-to shoes for date night, the classic black pump is a must for everyone. If you’re looking to get the most use out of them, I’d recommend finding the sweet spot where the heels aren’t too high for the office, but are still high enough you could wear them for a girl’s night out. And comfort. Never forget about comfort! This pair of shoes is going to be your go-to for everything, so you want them to fit like a glove. If you’re on a budget, I’d recommend shopping at places like Aldo, DSW, 6pm, and Nine West. I used to own a pair from BCBG and they were both comfortable and lasted me a long time before I had to get rid of them. Now I have a pair from Kate Spade, but I’m hoping to save up for a pair from Manolo Blahnik one day. If you have a larger budget and are looking for high quality, cult classics include the Manolo Blahnik BB, the Jimmy Choo Romy, the Stuart Weitzman Nouveau, and the Christian Louboutin Pigalles. As iconic as they are, I would not 18 OCE A N S TAT E MARCH 2018

HEELED BOOTIES
Heeled booties are simply a dressier alternative to the Chelsea boot. I like them to come up slightly higher than my ankles, to the “mid calf ” range. They look great with skinny jeans and chunky cardigans or with HEELED SANDALS Even though they fall into the sweater dresses. I’m loving this category of sandals, this pair of pair from Frye right now, but shoes isn’t technically (just) for you can see plenty of options summer. They’ll save you from the whipping winds of winter (how’s that for alliteration?) while keeping you looking stylish. Stuart Weitzman is dominating this section of the shoe market at the moment, but you can find more affordable pairs at places like ASOS and Nasty Gal.
SNOW BOOTS / RAIN BOOTS
This is probably the least necessary pair of the list, but I am of the opinion that everyone should have a pair of shoes that takes a tee shirt and jeans from “slob” to a LOOK that is fully worthy of being photographed by Tommy Ton. I might be the only person to insist that a yellow striped snake skin sandal belongs on a list of shoes every woman should own, but maybe that’s why I was so dissatisfied with existing lists to begin with =p. What do you guys think? Did I miss a pair? What are your favorite shoes and what is your list for the pairs of shoes every woman should own? •

Ram Pickup
The first thing you notice when looking at the new Ram pickups is the striking design. You can still tell immediately that it’s a Ram, there’s no mistaking it for anything else, but the exterior has been transformed to be sleeker and more sophisticated. It still has the brawny look of previous Rams, but with a sculpted, more refined exterior shape overall. Underneath, it’s got a new frame, which is 98% high strength steel, and the body is 54% high strength steel. This is one tough truck. And although it’s stronger than the outgoing model, through select use of aluminum and other weight saving measures, the overall weight of the new RAM is down 225 pounds. Stepping inside, the interior has been upgraded and includes more cubbies and storage than your wife’s minivan. There’s places for your whole crew’s coffees, Slurpee’s, Bug Gulps, phones, tablets, laptops, and even hanging files. And yes, wireless charging is available. For rear passengers, there’s a tablet holder and cup holders (of course) too. But the biggest surprise in the interior of the new Ram is the Tesla-like 12-inch touchscreen. We tried it out, and it’s truly impressive. Snappy, intuitive and full color, you can access many of the necessary functions with just the touch of a finger. It can display one function (say for a large map in navigation mode) or can be used in “split screen” mode for mulit-funtions. For those interested in incar tech, if there’s one thing that separates the 2019 Rams from the competition (and from previous
RAMs) it’s this beautiful touch screen. When it comes to power options in the 2019 Ram, the base engine is the Pentastar 3.6 liter. When combined with the eTorque mild hybrid (did we mention all 2019 Ram’s are hybrids??) it puts out 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. But if you want to be able to answer “Hell Yeah” when you get the inevitable “Does that thing have a Hemi?”, you’ll want to opt for the 5.7 liter V8, which turns up the heat with 395 Horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. Combine those with the eight-speed automatic TorqueFlite transmission and variable valve timing and you can expect some pretty impressive fuel economy numbers. What also helps in that department is that the new body is the most aerodynamic pickup you can currently buy. It’s even lower than many sedans and coupes and is aided by interesting tricks like Active Grille Shutters that close at higher speeds when you don’t need all that air rushing into your engine compartment and dragging down fuel economy. The mild hybrid system is a battery just inside the back wall in the passenger compartment. It adds 90 pound-feet of torque to the Pentastar, and 130 pound-feet of torque to the Hemi. It’s not meant to increase the top ends of those numbers, but to give in more torque on demand at low revs. This is especially useful when towing, especially at lower speeds. There will be three different frame lengths available. The shortest 140.5 inch version will be paired with MARCH 2018 O CEANSTATE 29
the Quad Cab Bong bed Rams. The next up is 144.6 which will be for Crew Cab Short Bed Versions. Finally, a 153.5 which will be for Crew Cab Long Beds These new wheelbase options allow the cab length to be an additional 4 inches, which adds significantly to interior space. When it comes to payload and durability, the 2019 RAM comes in at 400 pounds higher for payload, now at 2300 lbs, and the tow rating is now a whopping 12,700 pounds, which is up over 2000 pounds from the outgoing model. There will be off-road packages available for every model, which will include a one-inch suspension lift, plus 32 inch on/off road tires on either 18 or 20 inch wheels, and will now include an electronic locking rear differential. The off road package also adds off road shocks, new suspension geometry, multiple skid plates, and of course, tow-hooks. That way, when you have to pull your unfortunate buddy (who’s driving something other than a Ram) out of the mud, you don’t have to wrap the chain around your bumper.
30 OCE A N S TAT E MARCH 2018
The 2019 RAM Pickups will be available soon at Elmwood Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram in East Providence, Rhode Island. General Sales Manager Dennis Freeman has said that it’s his goal to stock more of the 2019 RAM pickups than any other dealer in Rhode Island as it’s one of Elmwood’s strongest selling vehicles. Freeman said “Business owners in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts depend on their trucks every day. Having the right truck for them, in stock and ready to go is very important”. He added “They need to be productive and not waiting around, so we make the process of buying or leasing a 2019 Ram Pickup an easy one, with tremendous inventory and low pricing. In addition, we’ve got an award-winning service department that’ll get your 2019 Ram in and out quickly when you need service. We know you’re only making money when you’re working, and your truck is a big part of that.” • Elmwood Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram is our recommended dealer for the 2019 Ram in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.
