The last surviving member of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World – the Great pyramid of Giza; the mystical Sphinx and treasures from the tomb of King Tutankhamun are all waiting to be seen. A visit to Petra – one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World – is a must from Aqaba. This beautiful sandstone structure has been used as a movie backdrop for films such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. In bustling and exciting Mumbai, take an overland tour to the legendary Taj Mahal memorial.
In Yangon (from Thilawa), Myanmar (formerly Burma) a visit to the Shwedagon Pagoda will present you with 12 acres of mesmerising shrines and sculptures. Semarang has a magnificent Temple of Borobudur, one of world’s largest and greatest Buddhist temples.
Komodo Island’s National Park is home to the fearsome Komodo Dragon, the world’s largest lizard. The stunning Pink Beach, covered in pink-white sand, offers excellent swimming and snorkelling in crystal clear waters. In Kobe, which can be visited from Osaka, you can take a tour to Kyoto. Considered to be one of Japan’s most beautiful cities, Kyoto boasts the Kinkaku-ji, a pretty Pavilion completely covered in gold leaf. No visit to Nagasaki is complete without a trip to the Atomic Bomb Museum, a stark reminder of that fateful day in 1945. An overnight stay in Tianjin Xingang allows a tour to China’s capital city, Beijing. Famous landmarks await, including Tiananmen Square; the National Stadium – host to the 2008 Olympics; and the gardens, temples and shrines of the Forbidden City. Or visit the Great Wall of China, one of the Modern Wonders of the World. A stop overnight at Chan May is the starting point for a tour to the stunning Halong Bay. One of Vietnam’s most picturesque attractions, it’s home to 1,969 islands spread over 900 square miles.
Ho Chi Minh City, or Saigon, is an evocative, high octane city of culture and commerce. Take a tour to the World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat, the largest religious structure in the world.
