PCS Embraces a New Path
to Sustainability As champions for impactful change, PCS has always looked for new ways to help our community. This commitment to public service is central to who we are, from the launch of the PCS Foundation in 2005, to the work we’ve done with various charities and organisations over the years. However, we believe that there is still room for us to do better. Support for this transformation comes from the very top of our organisation, starting with the efforts of our new sustainability committee to steer the company in an even more progressive direction. Ann Rogers-Bell, our new CEO and executive sponsor of the committee, is one of the driving forces behind our evolution.
shouldn't just “ Sustainability be the 'right thing' for us to
do. It should be written in our business DNA. – Ann Rogers-Bell, CEO
”
“We want this to be a company-wide shift in the PCS mindset,” Ann says. “Sustainability shouldn’t just be the ‘right thing’ for us to do. It should be written in our business DNA. It’s an intrinsic part of who we are as a company.”
Ann’s mission is to align the PCS culture with the global guiding principles of OCS, focusing on authentic leadership, making a real difference in the community, and building grounded sustainability strategies that produce measurable outcomes. Ann is not alone in her quest. She is backed by the new Sustainability Committee and its members, including James Jessup and Phassani Doyle, as the joint Sustainability Leads.
want to be able to look “ We at data that proves we are really changing people’s lives for the better. – Phassani Doyle, Director of Human Resources and Joint Sustainability Lead
”
“Success for us means more than good CSR,” says Phassani. “We want to be able to look at data that proves we are really changing people’s lives for the better. That means the way we frame our goals has to be action-orientated, practical, and focused on our core values.”
Our four-pronged approach This framework allows us to reshape the way we work towards our four pillars of sustainability: social mobility, environmental protection, carbon reporting, and communication. PCS has always fostered social mobility within our organisation, through career advancement and genuine routes for personal and professional development for our entire team. We have also consistently helped disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society via foundations, charities, and community outreach. By extending a helping hand, we enable those who are less fortunate to find new opportunities and improve their lives, as well as the lives of those around them.
want to provide people “ We with the skills they need to find the right job in the future. However, we also want to make sure that the world they live in is a better one, too. – James Jessup, Director of Sales and Marketing and Joint Sustainability Lead
”
“Social mobility is important to PCS,” says James. “But it’s not our only focus. We want to provide people the skills they need to find the right job in the future. However, we also want to make sure that the world they live in is a better one, too.”
At the same time, PCS protects the environment by limiting our reliance on natural resources, thereby lowering our impact on the planet. We will continue to reduce our use of plastic, while installing solar panels to decrease our energy consumption. We also help our clients achieve outcomes that are greener and more economical.
To follow through on this initiative, PCS will donate 2 million baht to charities that are addressing some of the most pressing socio-economic issues surrounding COVID-19. Our donations will go to organisations like the Zen-Dai voluntary group, which works to alleviate the impact of the pandemic, and offers medical assistance to patients waiting for treatment.
As part of our plan to lower our carbon footprint, PCS is introducing a carbon reduction programme across all operations. This includes the capture and reporting of carbon emissions, which will help us remain accountable and transparent in our efforts.
Other PCS donations will help empower people with disabilities, through organisations such as the Foundation for the Blind in Thailand. We’ll also provide scholarships for future health professionals, and support groups like the Duang Prateep Foundation, which focuses on education, support for abused children, and welfare for the elderly and youths living in slums. These efforts will help bolster social mobility in marginalised communities, and empower new members of society to provide help and aid to others around them.
Of course, PCS cannot change the world alone. We all must play a part – and effective, powerful communication can help build a movement to inspire collective action. That is why we value clear and impactful communication regarding sustainability efforts, both inside PCS and with our clients and partners. Together, we can make a lasting difference.
New year, new PCS Our next step is simple yet significant. Instead of giving annual corporate gifts to customers over the New Year, we will be donating to charities on behalf of our clients. We believe that this gesture will be more meaningful to our clients, and a sign of positive change within our own organisation.
Support of these charities has been a point of focus for our Chairman, Heather Suksem OBE. Heather is a long-standing champion of social mobility, from the inception of the PCS Foundation to her most recent contributions as part of our new Sustainability Committee. Moving forward, PCS will expand our efforts toward a broader spectrum of local charities, foundations, and organisations. We will fund scholarships that focus on underprivileged children, increasing access to opportunity in a way that will help truly change people’s futures. All the while, we will continue to work in partnership with our colleagues, customers, suppliers, and communities to create a better future for generations to come.
