Cool cars, cool planes and lots of shiny bits!
This was such an awesome show!
The Bay Rodders Tauranga Hot Rod Club put this awesome event on for the 2020 NZHRA Street Rod Nationals including a weekend full of cruising, crazy games and a mystery tiki tour for those who entered for the whole weekend.
The Show Day for the public to view these cool builds was held at the Classic Flyers Aviation Museum, perfect for showcasing these cool builds from the era. The museum also includes the AvGas Café and Bar so it was perfect for a day out for entrants and the general public to get along and enjoy the day. The standard Bay of Plenty sunshine was cranking and set the stage for the day to be a goodie. Around two hundred and forty cars rolled into the museum grounds to park up and form an amazing display amongst the classic old aeroplanes already on display. Walking into the show certainly put a smile on your dial, it felt like stepping back in time for sure! Everything from cool custom hot rod builds to tough looking street machines were on display with a few builds debuting at the show.
There seemed to have been a fair few people busy over the covid period tinkering away in their caves to have their rides ready for this day! The standard of the finish certainly showed the effort involved. You could quite easily compare some of the builds with the top show cars from Australia who tend to get trailered around, whereas these were driven. The public certainly appreciated seeing the cars cruising the Mount over the weekend as the grounds were full of people checking out the cars and entertainment.
Barriers and cones set the stage for a fun gymkhana session for those who felt like a play. Karl Boniface’s “Nitro Flashback” and Dave Gould’s “Nightmare” fired up to blow the crowd’s ears back a notch and tear up some rubber to show just what a Nitro snorting engine can do! If you haven’t experienced the eye watering, air pressure compression punch and scream
