coal mining in my hometown. I hope to incorporate sustainable design practices such as energy efficiency and ecological restoration into my project while resolving the conflicts between men and land. While working with Prof. Gan Dexin on a project about soil pollution, I designed and built the landscape topography and spaces to form rain gardens and collect precipitation. More than landscape design, I learned how to leverage a variety of strategies to remediate polluted soils such as the soil bioremediation technique. Therefore, I would like to expand my knowledge scope of landscaped design and develop specialist skills through higher studies, which influenced my decision to apply for the programme Landscape Architecture MLA at The University of Edinburgh. What appeals to me about this course is that I can gain a good understanding of geologies, geographies, and ecologies of a given landscape with the support of specialists in relevant fields. What is more, I can explore how to integrate landscape architecture design with ecological thinking, which is perfectly in line with my academic interest and research focus. I can also explore key aspects that influence landscape design such as cultural history, geography, and architectural materials. Moreover, the studio-based course offers me the opportunity to communicate my work with specialists and develop advanced skills, which would help me create design portfolios to a professional standard and engage in different stages of landscape design practice. Therefore, I believe the programme Landscape Architecture MLA will equip me with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve my targeted goal. I am eager to start an inspiring learning journey at The University of Edinburgh.

01WITH E-WASTE The rebirth of e-waste in Longtang Town SITE: Guangdong, China DATE: 2023.08-2023.09 TYPE: Academic Individual Work INSTRUCTOR: GanDexin
This project aims to address the problems of environmental pollution, low recycling rates and health risks to residents caused by the informal e-waste disposal industry in Longtang Township. Through multiple approaches such as optimising the dismantling industrial process, e-waste landfill, wetland purification and the use of fungal biotechnology, the environment will be protected and restored, and the recycling efficiency of e-waste will be improved. Create an environmentally friendly space for local residents that combines industrial, agricultural, residential and public spaces.
LONGTANG TOWN UNDER THE E-WASTE CRISIS WORLD E-WASTE STREAMS
INFORMAL E-WASTE AREAS IN CHINA
E-waste is the fastest growing waste stream, with more than 40 million tons of e-waste generated worldwide each year. More than 70% is often shipped illegally to developing countries, with some areas developing into major E-waste dismantling centers, which are often informal and unregulated.

HISTORY OF ELECTRONIC WASTE IN LONGTANG Since the 1970s, large quantities of foreign e-waste have been illegally imported into China
Guiyu has become the world's largest recycling site for electronic waste The town has up to 5,000 workshops and handles up to 70% of the world's electronic waste
In 2017, the state officially announced the implementation of a new program to combat the Guiyu
Longtang, a town with more than 30 years of experience in electronic foreign waste disposal, began to play the role of a dismantling center
FROM INFORMAL TO FORMAL
E-WASTE DISPOSAL INDUSTRY PROCESS UPDATE
The sites are filled with informal e-waste dismantling centers where workers dismantle electronic equipment under rudimentary environmental conditions. This unregulated dismantling process raises serious environmental concerns and health hazards.
The current state of informal e-waste dismantling has a negative impact on the environment and individual health that cannot be ignored, I try to propose a new sustainable way to optimize the overall process in order to protect and repair the environment and minimize the waste of resources.

02METRO BLUE SAFETY BELT A responsive landscape design that combines aesthetics and functionality SITE: Shanghai, China DATE: 2023.06-2023.07 TYPE: Academic Individual Work INSTRUCTOR: TangXiangong
In the context of global climate change, cities are faced with the ever-increasing problem of rain and flooding, but the current mismatch between the capacity of pumping stations and catchment basins, and the clogging of pipes between catchment basins and municipal pipelines that are unable to withstand the large amount of water flowing in heavy rainfalls have turned these urban underground facilities from paradise to hell as a result of the erosion of the floodwaters. Metro stations urgently need efficient and rational measures to reduce the risk of flooding. I propose the design of metro blue safety belt, through the cooperation of surface pumping room and ladder reservoir, underground safety belt can efficiently regulate the surface runoff, store the excess water, and flexibly adapt to different rainfall conditions. Not only does it effectively solve the problem of flooding of underground facilities, but it also integrates the landscape into it, creating a responsive landscape that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

UNDERGROUND DRAINAGE SYSTEM At present, there is a mismatch between the capacity of the pump room and the catch-basin, and the pipes between the catch-basin and the municipal pipe are easily clogged and cannot withstand the large volume of water during heavy rainstorms. Rainfall
I would like to add a metro safety belt for water retention to prevent flooding from storm water flooding

03THE BLUE REBIRTH Ecological Restoration Design for Riverside Spaces in Neihuang County SITE: Henan, China DATE: 2023.03-2023.04 TYPE: Academic Individual Work INSTRUCTOR: TangXiangong
As urbanisation accelerates, the expansion of buildings and other infrastructures has left the ecology of Neihuang County in a state of fragmentation and disconnection. Combined with the design theory of eco-urbanism, I propose a series of measures to reintegrate the water and green space system from the three aspects of green space, public space and water, and work to solve the problems of water pollution, river canalisation, seasonal flooding, etc., so as to restore its ecological potential.

In the current site, the river channelisation has changed the direction of water flow, causing the ecological balance of the water system to be lost, and the discharge of large quantities of waste has led to a drastic deterioration of water quality. This comprehensive problem requires a comprehensive and targeted solution to reshape the sustainability and ecological balance of the space.

The design was inspired by George Mallory's feat in climbing Mount Everest. I have extracted the emotional and environmental elements of his conquest of Everest and crafted a monumental landscape at the point of departure from the airport to climb Everest. Through clever changes in spatial sequences, visitors can experience Mallory's emotional and spiritual journey to Everest in an immersive way.Visitors walk along a walkway surrounded by weather-resistant steel panels, experiencing the skilful changes in space, form and material. This design is not only a journey, but also a wonderful journey of emotions, a dialogue across time and space, perceiving his perseverance and courage in the face of extreme challenges. From the excitement of the beginning, to the glory of the summit, to the despair of death, it aims to inspire generations of adventurers who have climbed to the top. It is not only a monument, but also an artistic space that allows people to resonate, think and feel.
THE MYSTERY OF MALLORY Although this great adventurer has passed away, his spirit lives on, his ascent remains a mystery, and I would like to make a monument in his honor. Through this monument, his spirit will forever inspire every adventurer who comes here.

George Mallory (June 18, 1886 – June 8, 1924) was a great British explorer who died while attempting to climb Mount Everest. Mallory was once a teacher and homemaster of the famous public school Charterhouse in the UK. Charterhouse also retains a famous mountaineering and exploration club, the Mallory Group, in memory of Mallory.

The first British expedition set out from India. This time, its mission was to find the route to climb Mount Everest and map it.
Mallory reached 7,020 meters from Mount Everest. Since then, the monsoon brought heavy snow, and the expedition team was forced to return.
1922 Mallory returned to Everest, as part of an expedition led by Brigadier General Charles Bruce. Unlike in 1921, the expedition arrived with bottled oxygen.
Mallory's team climbed to a height of 8,230 meters without adding oxygen. This attempt triggered an avalanche that killed seven Sherpa porters and effectively ended the expedition
1924 Mallory was selected for the third expedition. Before he left he was asked why climbers struggled to scale Everest, to which he gave the famous reply, “Because it’s there.”
The two started out from their camp on the morning of June 8. At an altitude of 8,605 meters, this is the last time people saw Mallory with a telescope. Since then, the two have disappeared forever in the wind and snow.
THE DISAPPEARING PHOTO ON THE MOUNTAINTOP Mallory studied at Winchester Public School and Cambridge University, and was a classmate and friend of the famous economist John Maynard Keynes, who made his first unsuccessful attempt on Mount Everest from the North Face in 1922, and two years later made a second attempt with teammate Andrew Irving, who eventually never returned. The controversy over whether or not the two men had reached the summit before they died has become one of the most famous "Mayo mysteries" in climbing history. If it can be proved that the two men did indeed summit during their lifetime, it would change the history of Everest and the climb would be the first summit of Everest in human history.
