WHAT IS KO? knockout noun

1. the match was won by a knockout: KO, finishing blow, coup de grâce, stunning blow, kayo, TKO, technical knockout. 2. informal she’s a knockout! BEAUTY, babe, bombshell, vision, dream, hottie, dish, looker, eye-catcher, peach, heartthrob, fox, arm candy. 3. informal the performance was a knockout: MASTERPIECE, sensation, marvel, wonder, triumph, success, feat, coup, master stroke, tour de force; informal humdinger, doozy, stunner.

To us, knockout means much more than this. We like to think that it means an individual is unable to get up unassisted after being floored by the awesome graphic design work he or she has just seen! But seriously, we decided to call our collective KO because, in a way, completing an Advanced Diploma in Graphic Design represents the end of a long fight; three years of learning new skills and applying them in dozen of assignments. Together with Central Institute of Technology (CIT), KO recognises the critical role that educators play in providing a skilled workforce to meet the needs of industry. To that end, we participate in live briefs during the year which give us valuable knowledge and experience. Students from this year’s graduating class come from diverse backgrounds and have a range of experience and skills. We look forward to entering the industry in 2014.

Our Main Event happens in November and the champions of KO will battle it out for the attention of invited guests from the graphic design industry. We will showcase a fine exhibition of portfolios and the heavyweights of emerging graphic design will have an opportunity to shine. Getting from education to employment is tough so exhibiting to industry will maximise our competitiveness in the market while better responding to the needs of industry and employers. Funding the graduation exhibition in November, along with the smaller shows we plan to host during the lead up to the Main Event, is a significant challenge for us and accordingly, we need outside help. We need financial support to cover costs such as catering, prizes and awards, plus printing and promotion.

We have 450 industry representatives on our database who we communicate with regularly through direct email, Facebook and our website. Since launching the KO website in April 2013, over 700 visitors have viewed the site. In addition, the KO Facebook page has enjoyed popularity since it’s launch in April and is gaining significant reach. Your logo will appear on all posters, advertising and online promotional material for KO events. Our marketing collateral will hit your target audience and give you relevant exposure to a large audience throughout the year. Not only that, you’ll get a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing that you’ve helped to launch the careers of new graphic designers in Perth.
