Entre los top ten de los diseñadores industriales más importantes de la historia se encuentra Verner Panton que mediante sus innovadores y futuristas diseños logró hacerse un hueco en el mundo del diseño mobiliario del siglo XX.

Verner Panton is one of top ten most well known industrial designers of all time. Through his innovative and futuristic designs he made himself a name within the furniture design scene of the 20th century.

Verner Panton, se encuentra entre los diseñadores más influyentes del siglo XX por diseños tan universales como la silla Panton, el mueble-escultura Living Tower o la lámpara Panthella.

Nacido en Dinamarca en 1926, en su etapa escolar quería ser pintor pero finalmente Panton estudió arquitectura en la Real Academia Danesa de Bellas Artes en Copenhague.

En la década de 1950, comenzó a trabajar como asistente del diseñador de mobiliario Arne Jacobsen, quien fue una gran influencia en su trabajo. “Es la persona de la que más he aprendido en mi vida”, comentó en más de una ocasión.

En el año 1953 realizó un viaje en furgoneta por Europa que le permitió adentrarse en el mundo del diseño internacional y establecer contactos con diseñadores, fabricantes y distribuidores de muebles.

Con toda la experiencia acumulada en 1955 decidió abrir su propio estudio de arquitectura y diseño y lanzó su primera producción en serie por parte del fabricante de muebles danés Fritz Hansen creando así sus primeros muebles para producción en masa, las sillas denominadas Tivoli y Bachelor.

A partir de los años 60, Panton empezó a experimentar con materiales y formas innovadoras, diseñando una serie de sillas y muebles que se han convertido en iconos del diseño de interiores. Hablamos de su famosísima silla “Panton Chair”.

Verner Panton is one of the most influential designers of the 20th century due to such universal designs as the Panton chair, the organically shaped Living Tower furniture sculpture or the Panthella lamp.

Born in Denmark in 1926, he wanted to be a painter during his junior years but finally Panton studied architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhague.

During the 50s he started working with danish architect and furniture designer Arne Jacobsen as his assistant. Jacobsen became a great influence as Panton often said: “He’s the person who taught me the most”.

In 1953 Panton embarked on a series of van road trips through Europe which allowed him to penetrate into the international design environment and helped him establish partnerships with designers, manufacturers and furniture distributors.

As Panton gained experience he decided to open his own design studio and launched his first assembly-line production along with danish furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen. His first articles of furniture for mass production were called the Tivoli Chair and Bachelor.

In the 60s Panton began to experiment with innovative materials and shapes. He then designed a series of chairs and furniture that became icons in the interior design world. We are talking about the infamous ‘Panton Chair’.
