Architectural form of the building is archetypal with modern adaptations (such as wide openings). The aim is to become a natural part of the landscape immediately and a feeling that the house “must have been there always”. The materials and building techniques are inspired by local traditions.

Sustainability is another main factor in this design. Wide openings of the living areas help the heating int he winter season however the roof of the terrace shades the openings in hot summers. The simple feature makes the small sized house easy to be heated with low costs and emissions and prevents overheating in summer.

My first independent professional work was a study of a family house in remote countryside in South Moravia, Czech Republic. The client - family with four under-aged children desired a weekend house on their land in a small village called Synalov. The parents at the same time wish to have the possibility to move to this house one day. This factor became very important in the whole design process. Therefore the ground floor is fully dedicated to common living spaces and master bedroom with private bathroom. The site is on the edge of the village in a north-east oriented slope. This is not the best orientation because the sunny southern side is up the hill. Therefore we decided to build the house perpendicularly to the slope with living areas oriented to the south-east. This decisions also adds more privacy to the residents.

THE SCARS OF TOWN / CTU - DIPLOMA PROJECT / STUDIO HRADECNY software: Revit, Autocad, Photoshop

The diploma project is based on the outcome of diploma seminar. During diploma seminar I was working on extensive analysis of the history, landscape, traffic, public spaces and massing of the town. All analysis were later included in the diploma project. The whole booklet of the project is available here: https://issuu.com/home/published/odstrcil_portfolio_strany_zvlast

Abstract: After extensive demolitions from the times of the past regime, the structure of a compact and growing city is irreversibly damaged. Intensive traffic passing through the city center does not allow sufficient cross-linking. Along this major axis of the town, development is stagnating and large areas of nobody are emerging. In the vicinity of the center, we find a desolate plain of greenery, parking lots or shopping areas. The ambition of the project is to transform the disadvantage of a major load-bearing main axis in favor of the introduction of a tram line. Public transport will thus become an alternative to individual car traffic. The development around the stops is supported, the transverse ties are strengthened, and cycling paths are integrated throughout the city’s axis.

Tram line independent on other traffic The tram line is designed as a single track and is places in the axis of the road. Therefore, the maximum width of the stretch is utilized and the tram gains a great advantage of independence from the traffic situation in the city. The huge structure of the bridge in VsetĂnskĂĄ Street and the elevated road in Masarykova Street also are given a reason for their scale additionally. Terminal stops in invert endings The final stops Industrial Zone and Hospital are finished with an invert return. This eliminates the negative impact of the tram loop body. Such a solution requires a system with a cab at both ends and an entrance door on both sides. Connectivity to other public transportation Stops are designed with boarding islands or with Vienna style boarding. This leads to a significant traffic calming. In most cases, tram stops are associated with bus stops, providing a convenient transfer to long-distance connections or public transport to the suburbs. High frequency of connections Even when using two trains, one in each direction, the frequency of the connections can be achieved within 15 minutes. The maximum suitable capacity of the body is 4 trains, in which the frequency of connections could be about 7 minutes.

Traffic calming effect The introduction of seven tram stops on the 3.5 km long route through the city will cause a desirable calming of car traffic. This is done for the benefit of the city and its residents, who will be more motivated to leave their vehicles at home and take advantage of the exclusivity of a nerve-free tram even during rush hour. Integration of cyclist-friendly measures Bicycle lanes are newly integrated along the entire city axis and in three major transverse directions. This will complete the basic network of cycle paths in the city. P+R parking Parking houses in the Industrial zone and U hřbitova stations are conceived as a P + R car park with a convenient transfer to public transport. This will further reduce the traffic load in the city centre. Public spaces revitalization The design of tram stops is accompanied by modifications to the adjacent public areas. Emphasis is placed on human scale, reducing roads to the minimum necessary, paving crossings and stops and planting greenery. Town structure support In the vicinity of the proposed stops there are a number of transformation areas. These are used in such a way as to support the desired processes and to complement the structure of the city.

MARIANSKE LAZNE COLONADE / CTU / ROTHBAUER software: Rhinoceros 5 + Vray, Autocad, Photoshop

The promenade in Marianske Lazne is the most important public space in the spa city. The space between the pavilion The Cross Spring and the Caroline Spring is dominated by a beautiful neo-baroque main spa colonnade (Maximilian Gorky). The whole composition os promenade is imperfectly symmetrical about the axis passing through Singing fountain. However, it is incomplete and its the southern part seems to be in a temporary stage for too long time. Therefore, I am building a new colonnade to compositionally complete the entire promenade. This creates a clearly defined spa promenade between the Cross Spring and the

26

Caroline Spring. Opposite the Singing Fountain I design wide staircase, which also serves as an informal auditoriums for fountains shows. In an environment of such quality and beautiful Historic buildings there is no need to enter with other building that would attract attention. The main spa colonnade has its dominant position and should be left to it. Promenade needs other, new qualities. It needs compositional consolidation, adjustment of public spaces and surfaces. Those are the qualities my proposal for a new colonnade is trying to do bring.

The aim of the proposal is to expand, consolidate and find a sustainable state of the entire Zdiby Elementary School. The subject of the proposal is a building for the 2nd grade (5th to 9th year classrooms) and gymnasium capable of independent operation for use by the public outside school hours. These two buildings are connected by a ground floor link, where a canteen is placed. The main entrance to the building faces a newly designed school plaza and communicates with the surroundings. The building's capacity is eight home classrooms and two specialized classrooms, one of which assumes IT teaching. The building has a generous entrance hall, partially elevated. At the same time, this hall can serve as an interior gathering space or representative space for school communication with the public. Classrooms and facilities for teachers are located on the first floor, where a spiral staircase leads from the hall downstairs. Barrier-free access to the floor is offered by an elevator. Classrooms are located symmetrically on both sides of the corridor as a ramp with a slope corresponding to barrier-free use. At the same time, this ramp follows the slope of the terrain and the classrooms are in close contact with the surrounding landscape. Roofing with skylights oriented to the north guarantees even natural lighting in classrooms.

TESNOV STUDENT HOUSING / CTU / HRADECNY software: Rhinoceros 5+ Vray, Autocad, Photoshop

The north-south arterial road complicates the development of the city from Pankrác to Bubny and it is not otherwise the case in Těšnov. The surrounding area keeps its distance from it or turns its back on it, the spaces below the highway are inhospitable and attract homeless people and drug addicts. The urban greenery that is found here has no recreational or aesthetic value and is not maintained. These places do not generate any value, most people have no reason to stay here. That is why I decided to look for a way in which the city and the highway should look together and create an urban space here. The basic prerequisite of my project is the vision of the highway as an urban class with reduced car traffic. This should actually happen in the future after the completion of the Prague ring road. I propose a new highway profile as an urban class with tram traffic, reduced car traffic, lanes for cyclists and sidewalks. I believe that the introduction of public transport and accessibility for cyclists and pedestrians is a step necessary to develop the entire site. The highway can then function as a thoroughfare with access to public facilities and services, allowing for a faster transfer between adjacent locations. In Těšnov I propose a set of buildings replacing the existing urban greenery, defining the surrounding public spaces and completing the urban structure, adjusting the widths of adjacent roads in response to reduced road traffic load after its reduction on the highway. Těšnov is very attractive mainly due to its accessibility. The Florenc metro station and the Central Bus Station are in close proximity. Prague City Heritage Reserve passes through here. The place needs to tap into this potential and needs a new energy flow. That is why I propose the functions of public facilities, student housing, offices for start-ups and parking houses. The tram loop is folded up a few tens of meters and “cuts” this house into two parts that are connected by two bridges on the second floor. Stu-

40

dent housing is based on the concept of high standard individual living with shared spaces for various activities. Each single room has its own bathroom with toilet, kitchen and living areas are shared in a group of eight to fourteen people. It follows the intention of community housing with its own intimate space. The bridges on the second floor allow each inhabitant to use the common areas on the second floor in the northern part of the house. There are mass classrooms with a library, studios, music room, clubhouse, open space over two floors with access to a generous terrace, manager’s room and a small buffet. Of all the communication cores, access to the roof is accessible. The premises for residents and the public mix in the northern part of the house, where there is a swimming pool and a fitness center. In the southern part of the house there is a library, the rest of the ground floor space is intended for business areas. On the eastern side, the parterre is oriented along the entire length of the house to the main road. There are commercial areas, entrances to the student house and access to the library. The facade of the house has a clear order indicating its internal structure, the coloring humbly responds to its surroundings and tries to complement it sensitively. The street line house, approaching the highway and offering a generous public space in the courtyard accessible by four passages. The parterre is also oriented to the well below the highway, encouraging its cultivation and public use, a large public space that is covered. There is also an exterior staircase with an elevator incorporated in the house to overcome the terrain difference and the highway level.

HOLESOVICE THEATER / CTU / ROTHBAUER software: Rhinoceros 5 + Vray, Autocad, Photoshop

We processed the city block in Holešovice in a group of eight students according to the given urban design. Each of us was given one plot. The building of the new Holešovice Theatre is located on the corner plot in the north-western part of this block, crossing the Tusarova and Komunardů streets. The theatre and its adjacent spaces occupy most of the building’s space. Thanks to its large capacity of over five hundred spectators and a generous concept, the newly designed theatre has the potential to serve not only Holešovice, but also to rank among the theatres of metropolitan importance. The theatre has large premises for performers oriented in the less illuminated southern part of the house. In this part, there are also carpentry and stage design workshops, studios and classrooms for teaching art, music and dance. The ground floor of the building is dominated by a large open space foyer with two bars and facilities for visitors. From the foyer, it enters the hall through two staircases. The passage passes through the house that connects Komunardu Street with the park square on the east side. From the fourth floor up, there are four different disposition units on the sides of the hall. The house, with its external appearance, tries to support the urban character of the place.

CZECH GERMAN INSTITUTE / CTU / ROTHBAUER software: Rhinoceros 5 + Vray, Autocad, Photoshop

The Czech-German Institute in Valeč continues the issue of the removal of Sudeten Germans from the border region, which Valeč significantly noted. At the same time, it opens and offers research and education through various presentations and exhibitions. The Institute is involved in supporting projects with Czech-German themes and can also exhibit these projects in its own gallery.

The gallery operates as a community building with workplaces of employees engaged in administrative, research and managerial activities. The gallery space, which is partly two-storey, offers flexible use and the café provides refreshments for visitors and is also a pleasant meeting place for locals. The Gallery and Café provide a flexible space arrangement with a mobile partition for two separate operations, or one big traffic where the café can go to the gallery, allowing guests to get closer to the exhibition and informally. This layout option is also suitable for more demanding events. In the summer, the café uses an outdoor seating area oriented directly into the designed chateau square, which serves as a recreational play area for both the local and castle visitors. Architectural concept is based on archetypal forms. This is only disturbed by spatial notches that give the building more dynamism. A shingle is used on the facade, which is found more than once as a traditional roofing material in Valeč. The space cut-out in the roof provides an attic with sufficient lighting and brings light through the atrium to the ground floor. The rest of the cutout area is covered by a green roof covered with tall grasses. VYTVOŘENO VE VÝUKOVÉM PRODUKTU SPOLEČNOSTI AUTODESK
