MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR GENERAL The OECS is using this historical moment to move from the incremental to the transformational. History and Nature have conspired at this juncture to challenge the human species to rethink, recalibrate and re-balance itself in the equilibrium of the Universe. The old economy that has been fueled by fossil energy and involves wasteful exploitation of natural resources at the expense of environmental sustainability has to be urgently replaced with a green, blue and circular economy. In essence our survival on earth requires the collective effort of the entire human race to shape a regenerative civilization. As a collection of Small Island Developing States (SIDS), the member states of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States are committed to making that transformational shift. While we suffer many disadvantages of size, we are determined to optimize the opportunities inherit in the “small is beautiful” concept – agility and comparative ease of scaling up solutions to island wide application. In the shaping of the new development model, the imperatives of climate change, the lessons of the COVID pandemic and the demise of multilateralism and the rise of nationalism must be taken into account. The BIG lesson in all of this is that while we must take fully responsibility for ourselves it is the recognition and acceptance of our interdependence that will enable us to create the inclusive economies and the caring societies that is the foundation of the peaceful and prosperous world envisaged by the Sustainable Development Goals. With limited landmass but large ocean space and scarce natural resources, the key to all of this for OECS member states has to be its human resource – the intellectual capital and inventiveness of its people. This is why an important focus of the SDM 2020 is on innovation and entrepreneurship. We need to liberate the creative energy and the imaginative genius of our people so that they can stand equal in an unequal world. We are inviting investors worldwide who are excited by opportunity to come #JoinTheMovement, come meet our regional bringers of fire, discover the imaginers who need your support and mentorship to help change the world. Sandra Harewood Inventor Social Word Game - Raid Barbados
Sandra Harewood is a tenacious operations management professional of 15 years, during which she has worked with a billion-dollar apparel company. She has also had a decade of experience working with the UK Government’s development aid programme in the Caribbean on various projects, and has assisted in disaster relief efforts during and after the volcanic eruptions in Montserrat. Sandra is the inventor of a proprietary social word game for use as a tabletop board game and on mobile phones, tablets and personal computers. The game is called RAID. The major target markets are the USA and the UK; hence extensive play testing was conducted during the developmental stages of the board game with diverse focus groups in San Francisco, Georgia, New Jersey, New York and London.

Saint Lucian born Nydia Norville’s love affair with creating moisturizers was borne out of a personal experience with extremely irritated, dry skin while living in New York. Nydia’s search for a remedy that kept her skin moisturized and soothed (especially during New York’s harsh winter conditions) proved futile.
