Warehouse investment! Due to rapid and sustained growth our 1000m² warehouse facility in Whetstone was running close to capacity. Holding 7,000 stock lines and picking over 50,000 lines per year was becoming a challenge. Towards the end of 2012 we took the decision to invest in this area of our business by increasing the capacity and creating a modern, more efficient logistics facility. At the centre of the investment are four ‘state of the art’ vertical storage lifts. The lifts have a floor area footprint of only 12m² each but amazingly provide us with 755m² of shelf storage space.
The storage lifts increase efficiency, accuracy and provide extra capacity for growth. As part of the investment we changed our pallet racking to Narrow Aisle and also installed a small area of hand picking shelves. This enabled us to improve the workflow and create space to develop other areas of our warehouse process. Additionally we created five purpose built workshops where we carry out the work on our added value projects. This element of our business has increased considerably in recent years and we recognised the need to invest and improve. This has been a major investment for us and involved a total rethink and redesign of our logistics function. We are very proud of what we have achieved and in the process have created a better working environment for our employees. We can now focus on improving our efficiency and already high service levels.

Cubo O Thinking outside the box The Cubo O range of thermoplastic enclosures from Ensto provide a tough, durable and high quality enclosing solution to meet the requirements of any application where the protection of internal electronics and controls is paramount. The new S8 series of compact stainless steel photosensors give the kind of excellent detection performance which is usually only found in sensors with larger dimensions and a higher price.

The S8 series is able to solve the most difficult and critical sensor applications. It’s an ideal solution for packaging lines, food and beverage industries, automotive, test and assembling machines and electronic plants. Base models are offered in polarised retro-reflective, diffuse proximity and background suppression versions. In addition a coaxial polarised retro-reflective unit is available for detecting transparent objects and contrast sensing applications. This contrast sensor is the most compact available today and has RGB (Red, Green, Blue) emission and coaxial optics. Versions are available with either M8 4pin connector or M12 connector via a ‘pig-tail’. Contaclip has now launched the new SSIK fuse terminals to enhance their innovative range.
High stability rigid foot construction
The fuse holder is fully compatible with the plug in cross connect system used in the SRK series of terminals. With two cross connect channels, this negates the need for external links for distribution of potentials to adjacent fuse and feed through terminals.
Orange cover to easily identify access point
The SSIK is made from glass-fibre reinforced polyamide PA6.6 V0 and has an extended temperature range of up to 140째C, so ideal for demanding applications. Available in 4mm versions for 5 x 20/25/30mm fuses and 6mm versions for 6.3x25/32mm, both have the option of a plug in LED module that can be retro fitted at a later date if required.

EX series solid state relays for use in hazardous locations
LED switching indication for pressure switches The EX series of solid state interface relays is available with approvals and certification to allow for use in hazardous locations.
Suco can now offer a solution of visual indication to show the switching state of pressure switches with their new 1184 LED indicators. The green and amber LED indicates when the switch is in a normally open or normally closed state and is available in 24 VDC or 250 VAC versions. The 1184 LED indicators can be fitted with Suco’s Integral Din connector pressure switches such as the 0184/185, 0184-SS and 0194/0195 ranges. • Continuous state indication and power on • N/O = amber

Flexible slip rings Kuebler’s SR085 slip ring can be used in many different applications where transmission of power and signal from a stationary to a rotating platform is required. The transfer between the static and the rotating platform is via sliding contacts (for currents up to 25A) and is extremely reliable. Fieldbus signals such as Profibus and CANopen can be transmitted up to 12Mbits/sec. Transmission of pneumatics and hydraulics is also possible on request. The SR085 is designed with a two-chamber system which means that the load and signals are mechanically separated in the housing. This unique solution protects the sensitive contacts from the dust that naturally generates from the load terminals. The modular system, where the number of channels for power and signal are variable, provides a high flexibility for a variety of applications. So much more than just an electronic fuse LOCC-Box from Lutze is an intelligent current monitoring device that provides reliable protection of 12 / 24Vdc circuits in a slim line 8.1mm housing. Traditional fuses and MCB’s are designed to protect against short circuits but do not offer adequate protection for overload conditions in 24Vdc circuits. In addition many typical dc power supplies are not able to deliver enough short circuit current to blow or trip the protection. The problem only gets worse as the cable gets longer and in many cases the system is effectively unprotected! The LOCC-Box electronic fuses have no moving parts and use a microprocessor to accurately measure current. This means short circuit and over current fault situations are detected and acted upon immediately even where long cable runs are employed. The units can be grouped together to protect multiple branch circuits with fault finding made easy due to built in status indicators and a fault signaling output. Combine the unit with communication output plus a gateway module and you open up many more possibilities. This includes free software for monitoring and analysing all parameters plus the ability to remotely monitor and reset multiple units.
