We don’t see it, but we know it is there because without it, we cease to exist. The body is interdependent upon each system, yet the Central Nervous System (the brain and the spinal cord) is the control center of the body. Nothing compels us to pay attention to this vital system unless there is pain or discomfort. Brain health function during development years should peak in and out of the classroom. Parents, take a moment to understand the brain. The brain is more than matter, no pun intended; it is the gateway of knowledge. When problems appear - a headache, fatigue, depression or even constipation - they may impact a clear mind, causing us to lose focus. Memory or behavioral issues may lead to unwanted attention in the classroom.
I believe barring an accident or trauma, the brain can be helped with proactive steps. First, listen and believe. Take into consideratio n the discomfort may be real. Of course we know our children, and not all pain is real pain, but to the individual, it just may be their reality. It is better to be safe than sorry. The body has a way of

telling, and touch therapy (massage/bodywork) is an alternative to provide relief. Of the five senses, touch is the most primitive and underutilized. A light external touch of the cranium can reveal information a trained therapist will use to help their clients. Also, the hands and feet are a map of the body, and touch is used as a guide to discern an area in need of attention. For example, the thumb reflects the head and houses the pituitary gland. A rub or pressure may relieve a headache and perhaps balance hormones. The brain and spinal cord understands touch, and although many bodywork therapies exist, my favorite is CranioSacral Therapy (CST). This gentle light touch therapy allows the body to selfcorrect and balance itself. The benefits extend from infants thru seniors. Digestive Balance Prebi … WHAA??? By Julie Williams There has been an increase in the number of chronic colon related conditions in America. Many of these are caused by the lack of fiber in the diet and lack of balance in the body. This results in inflammation build up as the body tries to deal with the issues. Our western diet is the culprit of the increases of many different conditions and many newly named ones affecting us today. Prebiotics We hear a lot about probiotics. Some of us consume them everyday in an effort to balance our digestive tracts and relieve issues, or even to prevent issues that you see challenging friends and family. Many of the chewables come with a high glycemic index so they taste good, but do little to balance gut bacteria. Or maybe you have tried every flavor of yogurt and wish we could REALLY take a break! Probiotics are important for digestive health as they keep the bad bacteria in check. Prebiotics feed probiotics. Prebiotics are actually carbohydrates that the we cannot digest because they pass through the stomach. This gives the good bacteria a food source that they can use and thus thrive. Prebiotics are a non-living substance that feed and maintain the living microorganisms (probiotics and the other good bacteria in the body.)
Different prebiotics are good for different stages in the digestive process. An example of one prebiotic are oats … although not the minute oats. If you have ever tried tackling a digestive issue with a probiotic and haven’t had the success you were looking for, try supplementing with a prebiotic. Nutrition the natural way is my motto, and it continues to serve me well.
Julie Williams, The Accidental Nutritionist, educates the public about the necessities of proper omega balance and issues surrounding our public water supplies, including consumption and external use of those supplies. Julie clarifies health issues commonly misunderstood, and helps business owners improve their quality of life with simple adjustments made to their daily routine. Go back and read that title again. No, it’s not what you expect of a title, but for the purposes of expediency and short attention spans and character limits and SEO - it had to be hashtagged and turned into a funny tweetable smashup. It is also to prove the point of this entire article that if you try hard enough and get creative you can fit an entire workout into your schedule every day. So let’s get to the meat (or kale steak for you vegans out there) of this subject on how to turn a 3 course dinner of a workout into a snack sized meal of a workout with all the same health and fat burning goodness.
get started. So own it, measure it, and get ready to leave it behind. The destination can be tough because there are many destinations and the further out one lays it will seem as unrealistic as a picture on a postcard. Still, pick that far off destination and draw yourself into that picture as you would want to see yourself.
A starting point without a destination and a map equals a wrong turn - a scary movie that you don’t want to star in. Pick a REALISTIC goal for weight loss, fat loss, muscle gain, clothing size, health, lifestyle, or whatever it is you desire and are willing to improve.
The only thing left is how to get there, and the best way to set up a great trip is to find a travel agent and a tour guide (played by a doctor and a trainer/health coach in this case). Sure, you can read some articles or books and watch some videos, and “DIY” just like a house project or a car project. Then, you call an expert later for a really, really big repair bill - OR you can be smart and not destroy your body while trying to do a “self improvement project.” If you do decide to go it alone, then make sure you go with small gradual improvements that can be done daily and with ease.
The starting point is the easy thing, because you are looking at it every day, and until you own it as such you can never

What’s In Your Box
Today? By John Carroll
A good friend of mine, Don Oman, recently gave missing, and what we want to do with the rest of me a copy of the 20th Anniversary Edition of Bob our lives to fill this void. Buford’s book, Half Time®: Moving from Success to Significance. I have enjoyed reading it so much that I added it to the reading list for my Business Leaders Forum℠ mastermind group members this past month, as we have worked on a related topic of “Social Responsibility: It’s Not Just a Tax Deduction”. Mr. Buford believes the second half of your life can be better than the first. But first, you need to figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life. In Half Time®, Buford focuses on this important time of transition in moving from what he describes as ‘success to significance’. While attempting to come up with a strategic plan for himself, he was asked a simple question: “What’s in the box?” The answer to this simple, yet penetrating, question will ultimately determine how successful you are at fulfilling your future life plans, whether you’re still a young adult, have reached that midlife point, or are well into your second half. Let me explain. At some stage of our lives, many of us have or will come to the realization that there is something missing. Thus begins a period of soulsearching and self-discovery to determine what’s

Everything we do in life determines our future. However, as Half Time® describes, you can only have one thing in the box that becomes the “mainspring”. (Not sure I’m there yet with only one thing in the box, but that is my issue). This mainspring is where the bulk of your time, energy and resources will be centered. So, what is your one thing, your mainspring? Be careful how you answer. To help you determine your mainspring, set aside time for reflection. Make lists of the things that are truly important to you, things you want to do in your second half, the things you are committed to, what you truly believe, and most importantly, what you want to do with the rest of your life. Susan Says
’t it a Crime? Isn by Susan Hamilton I write this sitting in a juvenile justice courtroom. I’m here every three months, paying on an old fine imposed on my son when he was 15. He’s 22 now, and incarcerated in big boy jail since he was 17. During his last trial, I totally forgot about this debt and so now I am held in ‘contempt of court’ until the remaining thousands of dollars are paid in full.
paperwork that required signing.
When my youngest son was in the 9th grade, a detective took him out of his classroom and showed him pictures of a vandalized home the next street over from ours. He cried. He was ashamed. He admitted to the damage the detective showed him in those images with the principle standing by. No one called me. No one called an I never thought this would be my life, my attorney. We have made a business out of up my right to have a Principle contact me criminal justice, and have thrown out any about the approach by the time he was in the 6th grade. No kidding. Every parent in notion of ‘correcting’ anything. RISD did. It was in the handbook. In the City of Richardson, where my husband and I reside and where we raised The home he vandalized was a run-down, 5 kids, I was required to sign the Student unlocked duplex our friends had recently Handbook or my children couldn’t get moved out of. The landlord had done a their grades released or other normalcies, rotten job of caring for it when they were I forget what all now. his friends and destroyed it. The detective said he had done it three times, and the prosecutor said since he confessed to all three, he would not remove any charges. They amounted to 3 felony vandalism charges worth over $50,000 per count. That duplex wasn’t worth $50,000 if it was in perfect condition! But we couldn’t afford to defend him, and he was facing juvenile jail and a couple years in county after that if he was found guilty in court. So we agreed with the public defender to plea bargain to reduce the charge from three criminal felonies to one civil charge, with a high debt but a remanding to our custody. Well, he got in more trouble at 17. So everything that was not paid is now mine to pay. And because he got in trouble again, when he gets out of prison, he’ll have a backstory that includes multiple felonies. What we have here, and what I want you to see, is that criminal justice issues are not in my opinion, limited to black on black or any color issue that’s in the news media today. What we have here is a predatory environment for our children as young as 7 at least in the state of Texas. The younger they are when they are charged with a crime, the more it is considered ‘normal’ to them. The younger they’re incarcerated, the more they are expected to return. THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION. (Go ahead, ask me how I know that.) They get probation fees, but when no one will hire them, the fees are still owed. And SOMEONE will pay. Even for someone’s fraudulent insurance claim deductibles. NO evidence of her actual damages were EVER questioned. As parents, we need to understand just HOW MUCH we need to be doing at a much earlier age to divert drug use and behavioral issues, because our criminal ‘justice’ system has no mercy or common 34
sense whatsoever. It’s about money, and they don’t care if your kid spends life in jail. After all, taxes pay for those beds, and pay much more than an offender or jail worker will ever see, that’s for sure. He deserved penalties. Both times. They have been quite severe. But through this experience, and juvenile prison ministry, I’ve seen what’s happening across the board. I’ve asked the questions. I’ve sat in the courtrooms and gone to the rallies. We have abandoned mercy and common sense to an overbearing idea of justice with penalty that holds way too many people accountable for the same crime. Instead of doing everything in our power to correct behavior. Parents agree - the worst thing you can do for a pothead is put him in a position where he can’t work. Forget the pot, he needs a JOB if he is ever to outgrow it and learn to think productively! Otherwise, indeed - one drug leads to the next. Criminal charges or not.
There Oughta Be a Law EVERYTHING is a crime today with at least a financial penalty. Every single missed deadline or stepping out of line in business or in life costs major bucks. Prosecutors enjoy trumping up the highest charge with the largest penalties they can muster, especially if you don’t have an attorney. Public defenders are NOT the same thing at ALL. They must petition the court for the right to bring in professional witnesses. They can’t speak to the defendant privately. Although it’s not admitted, they work to get a plea because a plea is a conviction - which equals money. Prosecutors who can count on their public defenders to get that plea are willing to negotiate; it’s good business sense. In my opinion, that looks like public defenders work for prosecutors.
(If a person is found guilty of a crime more than twice, they get much stiffer penalties. This might be fine for some crimes, but in others, it’s ridiculous.)
Criminal justice is paid for out of our taxes. We pay for the whole kit-and-kaboodle, and we vote in the judges. I think it’s time for ALL of us to wake up and become Look, I’m NOT saying criminal behavior educated voters. It is way too easy to be a is OK or should be ignored. Here are just serious criminal in America. a few examples of stupid legal situations most judges don’t even like.
Driving without insurance (50% of drivers in Texas are guilty of this, many due to poverty.)
Marijuana possession, or possession of paraphernalia (Makes GOOD money, reliable revenue, and urine tests push potheads to the SUPER dangerous alternative marijuanas because they don’t show up in those tests - like K2 and many others - causing extreme violence and death. Crime, rightly so, carries penalty. But we need to re-think what we’re considering crime, how we’re assessing felonies, and methods that do more to correct behavior for long term success. As it stands today, it’s a racquet. It’s an addict farm we don’t want to see because it’s ugly and dirty, but it’s also reliable monthly revenue for city, county and state.
