The questions keep coming… What are you doing after high school? What do you want to study? What are your career plans? Whether you can answer every question with confidence or feel overwhelmed by indecision, Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee can be a perfect next step on your journey. A home for higher education since 1890, Belmont offers an innovative—and nationally recognized—general education curriculum along with 117 distinct programs of study. You may even want to consider the Honors program, which offers unrivaled flexibility in designing unique majors while also giving highly motivated students an enriching and interdisciplinary course offering. As a new Bruin, you’ll have opportunities to explore a variety of academic options all while you begin pursuing your dreams. At the heart of Belmont’s academic excellence is the University’s commitment to student-centeredness. To take you “From Here to Anywhere,” first we have to get to know you, your skills, your passions. With small classes and faculty who consistently win national accolades for teaching excellence, you can rest assured that Belmont professors are dedicated to helping you reach your full potential. Moreover, the low 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio guarantees opportunities for dialogue and collaboration both in and out of the classroom. In fact, recent grads rated the amount of time they received and the quality of their contact with faculty as two of the highest ranked elements of their Belmont experience. Fostering well-rounded intellectual development, though, goes beyond classroom lectures and faculty conversations. Students can expect daily opportunities to attend guest lectures by national experts on a variety of topics, view important films, participate in discussion forums and enjoy an array of concerts, theatre performances and art exhibits. And if you find yourself needing a bit of extra help, Belmont’s Learning Centers offer free tutoring and group study in a number of subjects, and the 24-hour Bunch Library makes research much more manageable with comprehensive print and digital collections, tutorials and helpful staff.

Clearly, Belmont relies on top-notch faculty and rigorous academics to impart substantial knowledge, but the classroom curriculum is just one part of a more comprehensive educational model. Recognized by U.S. News for its innovative approach, Belmont fosters practical, hands-on experience to prepare students for all they will encounter in a 21st century world. In recent years, the campus has added more than $500 million in new facilities to serve a variety of programs and purchased technology that enables our students to have a decided edge when they enter the workforce. Belmont’s campus provides ample opportunities for putting hands and feet to a variety of subjects with innovative labs, rooftop gardens, a financial trading room, state-of-the-art studios and award-winning SimMan advanced patient simulators. And the campus itself is consistently recognized as one of the most beautiful in the nation, providing stunning outdoor spaces perfect for reading, studying or creative inspiration. But Belmont’s 75-acre Nashville campus isn’t the only place our students learn. In fact, they aren’t limited by geography at all. Through Belmont USA, students can participate in study away programs in Los Angeles, New York City, Oregon, Hawaii and Washington, D.C. But wait, there’s more! The Office of Study Abroad connects undergraduates from all majors with international study opportunities on six of the seven continents (and you can sail past the seventh, Antarctica, on Semester at Sea). Students can learn and serve on international mission trips and year-long, semester and short-term academic-focused programs. Students will also discover interesting ways to connect with their new hometown of Nashville as Belmont seeks to engage the entire campus in internships and community service throughout the city. Hands-on, experiential education may occur at the Nashville Zoo, where future biologists conduct research in animal behavior, or it could happen in the Tennessee State Capitol, where tomorrow’s political scientists intern with state government movers and shakers. Or perhaps a community service project with a local hospice organization will inspire the next generation of health care workers to think more broadly of their roles with patients. Through modern facilities, practical experiential opportunities and numerous study away/abroad locations, Belmont promotes growth of the whole person.

Drive through any of the eight parking garages on Belmont’s campus, and you’ll see license plates from all over the country. That diversity of origin is matched only by the variety of interests and talents you’ll find in Belmont classmates, and there’s no shortage of outlets to fit any desired hobby or activity. From recently started groups like the Equestrian Club and Swim Club to long-standing organizations like the Alpha Chi honor society and Student Government Association, Belmont offers countless opportunities both to connect with kindred spirits and be challenged in new ways. Greek Life, intramurals, faith development organizations, sports clubs, service groups… you name it. At Belmont you will find a unique niche where you can plug in, build community and exercise your gifts.

academics And if it’s just exercise you’re seeking, the Fitness and Recreation department can keep you physically active with daily group fitness classes, personal training options, a recreational gym, workout room, racquetball courts and even an on-campus climbing wall for adventurous types. That’s not to mention numerous intramural options like flag football, basketball, volleyball and dodgeball. If you’d rather cheer on a team than join one, Belmont has plenty to offer in that arena as well with 17 sports teams competing in the NCAA Division I. There’s nothing quite like cheering on the Bruins as they compete on campus or at the nearby Rose Park athletic facilities overlooking downtown. Finding your fit on Belmont’s campus all begins, though, with Move In Day and your introduction to our residential communities. With all freshman housing centered in the middle of campus, new students live mere steps away from their classes, and residential programming is designed to help freshmen build connections with one another and discover their God-given potential.

Embrace the Mission AND I M PAC T YOUR WORLD

At the heart of what makes Belmont a great university is its mission: Belmont University is a student-centered Christian community providing an academically challenging education that empowers men and women of diverse backgrounds to engage and transform the world with disciplined intelligence, compassion, courage and faith. This means Belmont is committed to helping every student be a lifelong learner. In this constantly evolving world, “education” isn’t something anyone can confine to four years of college. Here, faculty and staff are going to purposefully focus attention on helping you grow while you’re at Belmont, and we’re going to give you the tools to continue that development after you graduate. The Convocation program is another uniquely Belmont approach that cultivates a broader learning experience. “Convos” encourage the promotion of well-rounded individuals by allowing students to delve into beneficial topic areas outside their majors and by providing shared experiences with the rest of the student body. In addition to lectures, discussions, exhibits and performances, the Convo program—like all aspects of Belmont—prioritizes the importance of community service. As our president often says, God created each student for a specific purpose, and we believe our greatest privilege in life is to be smart enough, healthy enough and capable enough to serve someone else. When talking about the University’s mission, Belmont’s Christian identity remains a central element. Belmont faculty and staff represent a wide spectrum of Christian denominations and theological perspectives, and each individual is committed to the University’s top goal: student-centeredness. Together, we seek to ensure that students are enveloped in a supportive and inclusive community. Students from every belief system and those who claim no religious affiliation are all welcomed into the University family, and on campus worship services, local and international mission projects and 16 faith development organizations provide multiple avenues for students to explore their own faith journey.

Travel guides and food critics can’t say enough good things about Nashville these days, and it’s no wonder with the city’s countless attractions and exploding cultural scene along with a reputation for being one of the nation’s safest and friendliest metropolitan areas. Without question, one of Belmont’s greatest assets is our great hometown. The rare place that combines small town charm with big city possibilities, Nashville provides the backdrop for an amazing college experience while setting the stage for limitless career potential. Recognized as the Athens of the South for the number of colleges and universities in the area, Nashville’s most well-known nickname is Music City. Home to all genres of music, Nashville offers distinctive performance venues to appeal to every taste, from the grandeur of the Schermerhorn Symphony Hall to the historic holy ground of the Ryman Auditorium to the honky tonks on Lower Broadway. Moreover, there are countless studios, clubs and songwriter nights where aspiring artists—or anyone who simply loves great music— can discover new sounds. But music is far from the only thing Nashville has to offer. Major industries in the Tennessee capital include finance, health care, higher education, insurance, publishing, technology, manufacturing and tourism. Abundant opportunities exist for internships for students in any major of study, and with more than 18,000 alumni living in Middle Tennessee, networking with fellow Bruins can assist any post-graduation job search. Actually, more than half of the nation’s population lives within 650 miles of Nashville making it an ideal location for business and travel. Urban life in Nashville holds strong appeal for young adults and families alike, particularly in the areas right around Belmont. Zooming into the Belmont Boulevard, South, Gulch and Hillsboro Village Hillsboro12 Village neighborhoods bordering campus, you’ll discover great restaurants, numerous coffee shops and plenty of quirky boutiques. Moreover, the city offers an extensive greenway system as well as enough parks, sidewalks and bike lanes to provide ample outdoor recreation outlets.

Transform Your Life AND E M P OWE R YOUR T OMORROW

Challenging academics and small class sizes... Vibrant campus life in a beautiful setting... Commitments to service, innovation, diversity and lifelong learning... A Christian community based near the center of Music City... Belmont has so much to offer in terms of educational and experiential opportunities. But the real value of a Belmont degree hearkens back to our motto, “From Here to Anywhere.” If Belmont is a fit for you, what will that mean for you four years from now? What are the outcomes you can expect? Our goal is to help you discover your passions and develop your gifts so that you can be a change agent in your community and the broader world. There’s no denying that college is difficult—there’s a reason for the classic “all-nighters” of studying and research. At the same time, Nashville it’s hard for a reason. At Belmont, faculty and staff are dedicated to your success as we want to empower the dreams you already have. Enrolling in a university is a significant step on the journey to your future, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly. That’s why our graduates are well respected and highly sought after in the workforce. In fact, Belmont’s First Destination Rate—a number that reflects how many of our alumni secure professional, full-time employment, enroll in graduate school or enlist in military service within six months after graduation—is 92 percent. Ask around, and you’ll discover just how impressive that number is. More importantly, it gives you the confidence that not only will you receive a holistic, transformational education, but you’ll also have a distinct advantage after you graduate. Whether vying for your dream job in a competitive market or pursuing a master’s or even a doctoral degree, Belmont really can take you from here to anywhere you want to go.

“The most impactful part of my experience at Belmont was working in Enactus—it was extraordinary to see how a small group of smart, passionate and humble folks with clear eyes and full hearts could accomplish so much with so little. There’s something beautiful in that since anything truly extraordinary often starts out with just a small group of dedicated individuals who become a team and a family.”

Belmont awards a variety of academic merit scholarships to qualified admitted freshmen each year. Approximately 60–65 percent of admitted freshmen are offered a merit scholarship. The application for admission to the University also serves as the application for merit scholarships. General freshman academic merit scholarships range from $3,000 to $10,000 annually. Admitted freshmen with academic credentials that meet or exceed the University’s freshman class profile (ACT composite score of 26 or SAT score of 1220, with a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.6) are considered competitive candidates for general academic merit scholarship. Recipients of the University’s most competitive and highest merit-based scholarships represent approximately the top two percent of the freshman applicant pool and must have completed the application file by December 1. General freshman academic merit scholarships do not require the December 1 deadline; they are considered on a rolling basis following the offer of admission.
